These movers are great for their clients; their moving expertise and management were immaculate. The staff and materials quality made the relocation worth it.

I recently used Adams Van Lines (and their brokered mover Atlantic Group USA ) to move from CO to NJ. In short, not worth the money in my opinion. The deal starts out nice with a dedicated coordinator (who you really don’t hear from after intake). The focus is on weight and cubic feet initially and what they’ll be hauling to move your stuff. They urge you to over estimate and to think of everything (like moving is your business and not theirs) and assure you what you don’t move but pay for will be refunded. In short, using their worksheet and logic, I moved approximately 108 cubic feet or 27% less than I estimated and paid for but when their brokered mover, who they farm your job out to , gets to your home there’s no way they are going to agree to give back money. That’s what happened in my case. All of a sudden the focus is on number of items and not weight or cubic feet. It’s a complete bait and switch.
As for getting your stuff- I had 1 guy show up to deliver my stuff late on Memorial Day vs the team of 4 that loaded my stuff, felt compelled to help him since he was alone, had to correct him on items he brought in to my unit that were not mine, and had to personally go into the truck to identify items that were mine because the truck (and items therein) was so disorganized and poorly managed. And did I mention you have to pay upfront before they will unload any of your items even though you have no idea of the condition of said items after transporting. I had one beautiful bench that was so badly damaged, I can no longer use it. The “Customer Service “ team was willing to give me approximately $50 for it but I declined so I would be free to elevate my concerns and post this review. I guess the $50 is based on weight of a bench using their algorithm but they never actually weigh anything so I’m not entirely sure how any of this is derived.
At the end of the day, I’m glad my cross country move is done and I’m in my new home. I’ve moved many times for my career and personally and if you can do it yourself- do it. I’ve had experience with pods and that was awesome. It’s just a shame, and a sham, that a company who is in business to facilitate moves can cause so much stress and heartache when they should be in business to minimize that all for you during an already stressful time. #neveragainadamsvanlines
Absolute nightmare
NEW
The absolute WORST moving company in America .Save yourself a lot of money and stress and find someone else to move you. It took over 3 weeks to receive our household goods on a move from California to Texas . None of the boxes were labeled. There was no rhyme or reason to how things were packed. There was only 2 guys to pack up my house and only one did most of the packing. The other guy was constantly taking smoke breaks and talking on his phone. Then he took over 8 hours to pack a small kitchen then left for 2 hours to pick up five more boxes. Then of course they changed the cost of the move. I started at 7800 and ended at over 14 k . A lot of our things that were supposed to be packed up were left. The movers got to my home at 8:30 am and didn’t leave until almost 5 am the next day. Then when it came time to deliver our things I started getting the run around. It was always someone else’s department. No one gave a direct answer about anything. So of course when it was time for delivery all they talked about was making sure we had cash to pay them. I am a military veteran with lots of moves under my belt. This by far was the most frustrating moving experience ever. We are finding that things are missing.. ie tv’s ,screws for furniture, power cords and the list goes on. They obviously don’t vet the sub contractors that they use and will deny all plausibility of all the complaints they have received from other customers but hopefully other people will see all the bad reviews and find other movers and not deal with the headache named Adams Van Lines. Please heed my advice. DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY . I would rate them as a negative zero if it was at all possible!
Moving from hell
Good morning, Derek. I hope you are doing well. We had a horrible moving experience. First of all, you broker out the job to a horrible company. This was a total scam. They got to our place and decided to charge us almost double the quote you originally gave us. I paid an extra $800 to buy 15% more space. Even after increasing the price to $7100, they refuse to take most of our items from the second stop. The drivers were rude, and had a bad attitude from the very beginning. They wanted only cash, after we were told by you that we could pay by credit card.
1. They broke a reclining chair.-the left bracket was missing
2. They removed and could not find the lamp switch
3. They refused to put the bed together properly, all screws were loose.
4. All of our fragile stuff was clearly marked, yet they broke one of the glass shelves on the entertainment center
5. Some glass dishes were broken
We will be going to yelp and give you a bad review.
DO NOT use this moving company
I wish I would have gone with more established movers like Allied and JK Moving. Hindsight is 20/20 right? First Adams Van Lines contracts out with movers and is not itself a "moving company" in the sense you get movers employed by Adams. The vetting of these movers they contract out is DEFINITELY suspect. The movers from Maryland they contracted out with were Shield Storage and Moving. On the day of moving, two guys in a U-Haul showed up which was immediately suspect. Adams told me that 4-5 movers would show up so the move took the whole day. When they came into my home, they immediately doubled the price of the move which was shocking. I was stuck however as I had to be out the next day. Moving took all day with just two people. I was exhausted but left.
On Easter Sunday, they texted at 8am saying they were going to show up that day at 7pm. Not only was I out of town, but they only wanted to be paid in cash or money order. I had expected them that Tuesday (the text the week before from Adams stated this as the estimated arrival) so I did not have the cash or a money order. Jonathan from Shield Moving and Storage gave me a very, very hard time saying I was warned and should have had the funds. I told them I was told I would have a day warning and it was Easter Sunday and everything was closed. I was then charged $250 extra for the overnight delay.
The morning of Monday, they arrived at 9am, an hour earlier then agreed and gave me a very, very hard time. They came in a different van, with two other households stuff. I had no local bank so I had to scramble to get the correct payment. They would not accept a wire, personal check, credit cards, Zelle didn't work, doesn't do Venmo, etc. They threatened to take my stuff, charge me for storage, and keep my stuff for three weeks. Jonathan was very unprofessional, unwilling to work with me, and very, unreasonable. I feel like I was set up a little with the early arrival to try and get even more money from me. Winn Dixie saved the day with money orders, thankfully.
The movers themselves, two gentlemen, were super nice and helpful and Tania, the person who handled the payment (she ultimately negated the extra $250 charged) was a lifesaver in helping me the morning of -- are the reason for one star (and actually the lowest I can go). However, they brought in other household stuff at times and I had to correct. After unboxing everything, I have realized a bin full of purses, mostly Coach and Tory Burch, is missing. It was a see through bin so it was obvious the quality of the purses. I am very suspect of this (draw your own conclusions) based on my horrendous experience with Jonathan. However, I have no doubt he will blame me and I just want to be done with this whole experience and not file a claim. I should have kept them with me but again, hindsight is 20/20.
Back to I should have gone with Allied. Ultimately, after doubling my cost to move for the amount charged for two guys and a U-Haul, losing valuable items, being harassed and bullied on Easter Sunday/Moving day, unreasonable behavior -- it was the same price as Allied.
Adams will say they are not the cause of this as they only contract out and pass the buck. But shouldn't they vet their movers better? Had I know they would have used Shield Storage and Moving, and researched them and been aware of the horrendous reviews they have, I would NEVER have used Adams. The reviews very much mirror my review in unprofessional behavior and price gauging.
I, a single female, was totally taken advantage of and am very, very upset over this.
Buyer BEWARE.
Amazing service
I recently had to move across country to help care for my elderly father and I am so glad I found Adam's Van Lines for this. Alex is the sales consultant who helped set up my move and he was very knowledgeable and straight forward. The actual movers did an excellent job and ensured my items were delivered and unpacked safely. They even offer an auto transport service which I neeed for my vehicles. Thank you to this company for everything!
They ripped up friends of mine
They ripped up friends of mine. I would never ever order from them. BE CAREFUL!!!
We had a really rough hard experience.
We had a really rough hard experience.
Don't use this company for your move. Please!!
"There probably couldn't be a worse experience than this. At first, they quoted a low price and even promised to include a few extra items for the same price. However, when I called them, soon as you sign you can’t get in touch with same person, and make you sign with their on the phone, they sweet-talked over the phone, but when the moving truck finally arrived, they claimed there was too much stuff and doubled the estimated price. They didn't provide any credit for missing items or boxes, just kept adding charges. We had already paid a deposit while in a vulnerable position, so we had no choice but to proceed. The two workers were working very hard, promising to finish within 10 days. When they didn't contact me by the 10th day, I started getting anxious. Upon calling, I found out there was a third-party transport company involved, called family movers and they hired other company jd movers…, now 3 different company with one moving and they didn't even know where the transport vehicle was. I called and emailed them multiple times every day, but they didn't respond at all. After two weeks, the truck driver called to say the truck broke down and couldn't come. Then, a week later, yesterday, the movers finally arrived, but all the cups and plates were broken, boxes were open, and half of them were soaked. Expensive clothes and even a leather sofa were soaked too. This is our first experience like this, and we're extremely bewildered."
We have too many damage I don’t even know where to start!!!!
I had the unfortunate experience of…
I had the unfortunate experience of hiring Adam Van Lines for my move from NJ to FL. At the time of first talking with their agent I was told since my apartment community in FL does not allow trucks bigger than 26 ft I will need a shuttle. I paid $450 for the shuttle. I was told by the agent that if they ship my stuff in a smaller truck they will refund my $450 fee. The movers did use a smaller truck and now Adam Van Lines is refusing to refund me my $450 fee. I was even told during my last talk with their agent that I should even pay for extra storage if in case I need it for any last minute changes and if in case I dont end up using it they will refund me the money. I have not received a refund for it so far (its been more than 2 months).
The movers Adam Van Lines contracted with in NJ dropped several boxes in front of my wife. During delivery time i was told they will give me a heads up of 3 days but I was given heads up of 30 minutes. I had to rush back from work for the move. After delivery when we opened our boxes (which were in terrible shape) there were multiple items broken for which we put a claim but have not heard back on it either. I hope my experience helps you in deciding if you should work with Adam Van Lines for your next move or go with another moving company.
America’s top rated mover… Don’t believe it!
I financed a move on behalf of my daughter and granddaughter, who were leaving the state of Florida to go to Texas in 2022-2023. My daughter researched movers and found “Adams Van Lines,” who claimed, “We Are America’s Top Rated Mover,” on their website. I did some further research online regarding governing agencies like DOT, as well as insurance claims, accreditation, bonding, and customer reviews, but I didn’t see any major issues. My salesperson provided a “low ball” estimate of $1700, when in fact, I ended up paying $2390.70 for less property to move, and one less stop than originally stated. “Adams” avoided payment of damages to property by referring me to a “scam website” identified as “Help Desk.” The site was unstable and limiting, and it refused my evidence photos in multiple formats, while negating both of my complaint emails. The actual move was plagued by repeated and reneged promises of delivery dates, causing my daughter to go without her personal property for approximately one month. I am at issue with my seemingly caring salesman, who promised to be available for any moving issues. However, he made himself scarce and unavailable by phone on both moving days (pick up and drop off), when there were real problems. Also, I am at issue with the “Adams Quality Assurance”, as well as “Easy Road Moving” representatives, who kept hiking prices for each stop. For example, unreasonable and unwarranted price hikes were made along the way, as follows: $644.80 as originally agreed upon thru sales, raised to $662.00 by “Quality Assurance,” and additionally raised to $757.65 by “Easy Road Moving” for each pickup and delivery, despite the fact that there was one less stop, less furniture, and only a first floor pickup, sans elevator or steps during pickup. “Quality Assurance” was made aware of all of this before the pickup. In a phone conversation with “Adam’s Van Lines Customer Service” on 01/25/23, prior to final delivery, upon my query regarding the price hikes, he admitted that payments should have been at the very most, as follows: $725.40 (deposit) + $656.00 for the one stop pickup + $656.00 the final delivery, not including any necessary add-ons, such as the need for a shuttle, long carry, and additional stairway/stairs upon final delivery. In this case, there were additional stairs at the delivery destination creating an additional charge of $150. The revised payments, hiked by “Easy Road Movers” after the unwarranted “Quality Assurance” hike, were as follows: $725.40 (initial deposit) + $757.65 (pickup-additional hike by “Easy Road Movers,” + $757.65 (delivery-by “Easy Road Movers) + $150.00 (additional stairs)= $2390.70. Upon pickup, “Quality Assurance’s” lack of updates provided to them were claimed by “Easy Road Movers” for their additional charges, such as payment for a promised “free” TV box, and the claim that curio required “additional” packing needs. Upon late evening delivery, around 9 p.m. to my daughter’s rented residential location in Texas, the driver had left the gravel roadway at the final destination, and got stuck over 100 feet away from the house (driver error). Additionally, there were damages to my daughter’s computer desk, which is beyond repair, having an estimated replacement cost of approximately $125-$200. Also, as a piece of ornate wood was broken off the top of the family heirloom, curio cabinet, but was found with the curio. My daughter had intentions of attempting to repair it herself, first. Additional damages were done to the final destination property in Texas, a private residence with a gravel and dirt driveway. Clearly “Easy Road Movers” got around to delivering property in around 9 o’clock in the evening (a month later), which contributed to the truck driver exiting the main driveway in the dark, causing ruts and broken tree branches, leaving the truck disabled in the Texas dirt, awaiting a tow (driver error). I did not agree to give “Easy Road Moving” the additional $150 for carrying furniture longer distance due to the driver’s error, even though they refused to release my daughters belongings. However, with a local, law-enforcement officer present (summoned by the homeowner), I did agree provide $150 extra for additional stairs in the house, which I was not aware of. “America’s top rated mover,” really? I think not.
These guys are thieves
These guys are thieves! Gave them my inventory including measurements for and pictures of my sofa and barrel chair that were my large items. At pickup day my quote was increased by over $2500 because the movers claimed my stuff was larger than what was estimated. They said it would be delivered in 2 to 3 weeks. It took over a month and I had to constantly call to get a status only to be lied to and then told at last minute there were delays. Eventually I asked to deal with the movers directly as they were useless. Day of delivery I was forced to pay $495 claiming the trailer wouldn't fit in my streets. When I asked what would happen if I didn't have the money as it had already cost me over 10k they stated 'I don't believe it's nice to go over the explanation", which sounded like a threat. When my things finally arrived, my two new nightstands were broken, my $500 rug was 'missing' along with several other items. Then they tell me they will give me $124.80 from their "good faith fund". Any good reviews are fake!! Do not use them!!
Update: The document they wanted me to sign to get the measley amount they offered says I can't take legal action or post/will remove negative reviews. Extortionists!!
Do your research
Finally heard back regarding my claim/complaint on 9/6/23. I have pictures and emails and posted my complaint. They offered to pay me the whopping amount of $229.20.
They cut my daughters mattress, broke several dishes and bins, my wife’s desk was broken and it can’t be fixed, and my precious 75” tv( just before football season). The “emotional damage” LOL.
The tv was $800, desk was $150, dishes were about $50 worth, we lost 6 bins ($20 each). The mattress isn’t ruined but it was negligence to cut it the way they did.
For those that are wondering- I feel like an idiot for not reading the fine print about coverage. The basic insurance is 0.60 a lbs. However, when you ask(AD-reps initials) and are told that due to the size of truck/load we wouldn’t need additional coverage- you listen to the “expert”(logical- is what I tell myself). Additionally, I paid extra for the tv to be wrapped $70. I bought the boxes for the other 4 tvs and wrapped them and they made it without issue. The desk was also “wrapped” for shipping. It’s in Your best interest to do your research. They originally quoted us $5k to move from NY to TX. This move was closer to $8500. It changed every phone call- we talked to several reps and they seemed to make errors of what was in the list and what was being removed. Moving day there were several items off the list like a futon, kitchen table and chairs and smaller boxes- this increased the price and we paid it. The icing on the cake was they quoted us 7-10 days for our stuff to arrive. It took 31 days! We called every week and they said they didn’t know or had not heard but they would check and call us. Then they said we misinterpreted what was told to us about 7-10 days. Seems like they have multiple reps to call and confuse you or twist things into making you pay more.
Stay away
Stay away. I’ve moved seven times in my career…this has been the worst.Everything from sizing the job poorly (refused to come out to my property - only a virtual assessment, packaging (some items were not even wrapped or placed in boxes), storage (some boxes were delivered looking like accordions, semi opened and torn), missing items (boxes, mattreses), damaged items (bed frame with missing pieces). Damaged leather furniture from shipping tape improperly placed.
We couldn't be happier with Adams Van…
We couldn't be happier with Adams Van Lines! They worked with us every step of the way. They were considerate and answered all of our questions (and I had many :)) Logistics was even able to pivot at the last minute when we lost the house we planned to move into a week before the move. They respected our time and our belongings. All items made it safely and in perfect condition. All the movers were efficient and respectful. Due to their hard work, I was able to focus on taking care of my family while relocating, which is always very stressful! We appreciated them very much!!
Complaint against Adams Van Lines
Complaint against Adams Van Lines
I helped facilitate this move for my elderly and handicapped parents, from Washington state to Colorado, delivered on July 29th and regret ever having to deal with these people.
This was the absolute WORST moving EXPERIENCE I’ve heard about, let alone having personally. This company needs to be shut down because they are impersonating a legitimate moving company by using the term “Van Lines” when in fact they are not a moving company at all, but rather a broker who will find the cheapest possible people to do the job at the same rate as a good mover. Overall this move that was quoted at $4000 cost us almost $12,000 with terrible results.
Sales process - high pressure sales process from Alex Diez including texting and calling after work hours. He also claimed that he would be with us throughout the process but definitely was not. I followed up about the cost of storage (which doubled) and he never responded because it wasn’t their storage unit. Should have been my first red flag.
Misleading advertising - I got this quote from “Moving Feedback.com” which is clearly a website set up by Adams Van lines to boost their SEO. They claim to have been in Forbes, WSJ and other publications, but there is absolutely no proof of that and they are just lying.
Exorbitant charges - We signed up for packing and shipping from Washington State to Denver, Colorado and sure the items were more than the original inventory but the fact that the cost was SO much more was a huge surprise.
No quality control - Adams subcontracted to a company called AMC Quick Relocation who did the actual packing and storage. They were so disorganized, they send 1 person to pack up a 3 bedroom house and had to make 3 trips over two days to pack the house. They also used reused boxes and minimal packaging, we saw names and inventory tags of past moves while unloading.
Disorganized and mismanaged - The delivery process was the absolute worst. Adams said to give them 2 weeks until the first date of delivery, and in their wording they make it sound like they will deliver 1-2 days within the requested delivery. We were waiting on standby to hear from the driver within these days because we need to arrange a reservation for a loading dock.
Terrible Customer Service - Andrew Mullen was the “customer service representative” from Adams Van Lines, and he was extremely rude and clearly had no customer service training. It is basic to start correspondence with a “Hello” let alone a respectful hello. He spoke in short, brash sentences and was even worse on the phone. I’m sure it’s not an easy job being responsible for such a terrible company. He had no control over our delivery date and just kept saying “will let you know when the driver leaves”. As if we could wait the contracted 21-30 days for a driver to show up.
Surprise Expediting fee of $557 - Deciding that we want to be done with this company, we chose to pay the “expediting fee” to get our things delivered at an actual scheduled time. Maury at AMC Quick relocation said their “expediting truck” was available - turns out it’s ANOTHER subcontractor, just a guy with a truck.
Delivered by homeless people! On delivery day we saw the people hired to unload our truck were clearly unhoused people who parked their RV right outside our building. These are the licensed, insured movers?!
Surprise “long hall fee” - Apparently the hall was too long and there was a surprise fee for using an elevator too. They wouldn’t start unloading everything until we paid another $500 dollars, cash.
While our contract says we paid for reassembly of furniture, the delivery guy Sam said he didn’t have the tools and complained about everything being too heavy. Didn’t set up the bed, couch, table, nothing. Again, $12,000 for this move.
These guys need to be shut down, they are criminal.
Just an FYI do NOT use Adams Van Lines…
Just an FYI do NOT use Adams Van Lines to move ! 110 reasons but they are horrible and once they get your money they GHOST you! Lost my sons hardware and metal slats for his $500 bed which is now useless and said we will give you $13.80…. 🤯! This would have NEVER HAPPENED if they put the bed together as stated in the contract instead they literally threw it in the apartment! Avoid Raymond Burneo.., Travard Davis , Kerrie James and my final advice as I am fighting this company… DO NOT USE A BROKER WHEN MOVING !!!!!!
BUYER BEWARE!
BUYER BEWARE!! They quoted us $3194 with all taxes and fees. When done loading the price suddenly goes to $6143... after numerous quotes for less than 300 square feet they claimed we had 500 and charged us for 600. There was 250 square feet in reality. Fraudulent and guaranteed to rip you off. Last fun part was when we get a phone call stating a delivery in 24-30 hours (4pm-10pm) and we have to pay an additional thousand for a shuttle fee, or they will hold our possessions. Do NOT use this company. After being robbed I am reporting this to the police, better business bureaus and the attorney generals offices in all three states- where it was picked up, delivered and their corporate location.
They were ok
I give then a 3.5 because they were affordable and they did an ok job of responding.
Pros:
Affordable
Checked for updates throughout the move
Responsive
Cons;
They don’t tell you pick up date until the day before which, in my opinion isn’t enough time to get things sorted. I needed to know at least a week before because I needed to buy flight tickets and I emailed and called and they ignored me until they called me with the pick up date which was a day before.
Almost EVERY box was destroyed. I’m talking holes in my boxes. Some even looked opened. Why did you go through my stuff?
My precious bed was dirty. I have vacuumed sealed it and it was ripped and dirty. This was the most upsetting because I love my bed. It is my pride and joy and you go and dirty it?
I understand things get messed up in moves but come on, almost every box destroyed and you dirty my mattress??
Well you get what you pay for I guess.
The relocation procedure went quickly
The relocation procedure went quickly, the movers were courteous and skilled, and the entire organization was attentive and addressed all my worries effectively.
