Very disappointing experience with Ackroyd Legal regarding the sale of my property.

After paying £600 on account, I experienced months of delays and extremely poor communication. Emails and phone calls were largely ignored, and very little progress was made on the transaction over a prolonged period.

The estate agent and buyer’s solicitor also struggled to obtain responses, and I was informed that the buyer was considering withdrawing their offer due to the delays.

Following a formal complaint, Ackroyd Legal acknowledged that the level of service provided was “not acceptable.” I eventually had to terminate their services due to a complete loss of confidence in the handling of my case.

I also disputed part of the fees deducted from my funds on account and received no meaningful response, which resulted in me escalating the matter to the Legal Ombudsman.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this firm.

Our experience with Fiona at the Bromley office has been nothing short of exceptional. As first time buyers we were very anxious about having a good solicitor, as you hear so many horror stories, but Fiona could not have made us feel more at ease. Her response time is extremely prompt, and she is always happy to answer any queries or questions. Ackroyd Legal has found a repeat customer as long as Fiona is around!

I always thought it would be difficult to train to be a solicitor- on reflection I’m pretty sure anyone could do it.

I strongly advise against using Ackroyd Legal. Our home-buying process was made completely miserable by what appears to be systemic dysfunction within the firm, culminating in a highly stressful and drawn-out contract exchange that should have taken days, but instead took over two weeks.
We started with a completely incompetent case manager, only to be randomly handed over to Abdullah Shreef at the critical final stage of our transaction without warning. While Abdullah could potentially have been dealing with an unmanageable workload, his terrible communication and reactive working habits were infuriating. He certainly did not prioritise getting up to speed on our case.
He consistently delayed replying to critical emails until late afternoon every day. This late timing effectively shut down any progress, ensuring nothing could be actioned or sent to the other side until the following business day. Furthermore, when we paid for a private courier at our own expense to deliver time-sensitive documents strictly by 9:00 AM, he couldn't even bother to walk down to receive the post which got distributed at 2pm, rendering our fast-tracked delivery pointless.
To top it off, I do not believe we received a high level of professional guidance. He was very reluctant to give advice on what I now believe is a fairly standard covenants issue, saying we have to make the decision as we're buying the house and he hasn't seen it.
As first-time buyers trying to coordinate a family move, the lack of proactive support, defensive communication, and daily delays caused us immense, unnecessary distress. Avoid this firm if you want a smooth, professional transaction.

As a first-time buyer navigating what felt like an overwhelming process, having Mohammed Munshi handle my conveyancing made a genuine difference. Mohammed was consistently responsive, clear in his communication, and always made time to explain things properly rather than leaving me to figure out the legal jargon on my own.

The transaction had its complications- survey findings, renegotiations, and the usual back-and-forth that comes with any purchase- and Mohammed handled all of it calmly and competently. He kept things moving, flagged issues before they became problems, and was always reachable when I needed reassurance or clarity.

What stood out most was the personal touch. He clearly cared about the outcome for us as clients, not just completing a transaction. For a young couple purchasing their first home, that kind of attentiveness genuinely matters.

Ackroyd Legal as a firm were professional throughout, and I’d have no hesitation recommending them- and Mohammed specifically- to anyone going through a purchase, especially first-timers who need a solicitor they can actually trust.

Bad service, I am currently in the process with Halifax as a part of the deal the lender is offering free legal services. This company has been allocated, so far I have responded immediately with their request and I haven't heard from them in the past 2 weeks at all. I have phoned several times, they have told me that that case will be updated very soon , but so far, no activity on a case tracking. There is no personal email from the solicitor. If I knew that service will be that bad I would have most likely opted for the solicitor that charge the fee and the case would have been probably completed by now. I wouldn't recommend this firm to anyone.
