Well, 1340 Art Magazine is a dream for any artist to be recognized and appreciated. I have explored their website and viewed most of the artworks presented.. (Amazing works indeed!!) That made me had a feel of trust and the encouragment which I was looking for in this field as a profeasion beside all my fellows around the world who also needed a push forward to invest in their talents and works.

The instagram scam
So a 'curator' contacts you on instagram saying they want to display your work on their instagram page like many other 'art collective' pages. Would I be interested?
Click the link on their page and fill in the form. Well ok sure. More exposure is good right?
1 day later i recieve an email saying they love my art and want to feature it in their magazine, but i have to pay them 20-30 dollars to enter the competition to win the possibility of being featured....
How gullable do they think people are? And they don't even feature you on their instagram page.
It's also funny how all the positive reviews on here, their names match that of the curators on instagram.....

Our ‘social’ team consists of 15 scouts who look for artists on Instagram. The team changes a lot, but we want to make sure everybody has their own account. This might result in some inactive accounts still being available on Instagram. We are putting more effort into deleting accounts we are not using. Something very frustrating came to our attention recently. Other people are using our name for their own benefit. They are creating fake accounts and are approaching artists directly. Of course, this is something we are trying to fix but not always possible. We added several warning texts on our Website. So, again, if unsure, please contact us directly.
Receiving exposure is valuable for an artist. Somehow people question the numbers on our Website. But they are correct (we actually need to update them because they are even higher now). So your work will actually be seen by many people. Some people call it pay to play, but maybe you should view it as an opportunity. We deliberately decided to make pages available for upcoming artists. This means we lose advertisement income. Sorry, but we are still a company and so we need to make up for lost income somehow.
We have the following teams:
Blog team, working on the blog, selecting artists, editing text etc.
YouTube team. Editing RAW video. Finding artists to make a video (Not easy because sometimes people are shy)
Magazine team. Trust me a lot of work and many people are involved.
Support team.
All of this costs money. Our people work hard and deserve fair pay (I hope you agree). Again, we offer you the opportunity. It’s up to you if you enter. You can always tell us it’s not for you, maybe one of our other options suit better.

All in all, we feel it’s a good deal. You have the chance to get a lot of exposure. Exposure a starting artist would normally not get. Ahh yes, we also believe that when you want something, you need to work for it. So maybe, after you were selected for the magazine and we print you, you should just take the magazine under your arm and start visiting galleries. Show them who you are, what you do. Get yourself out there. Maybe, just maybe, the feature in this magazine gives you the confidence you need to do it.

BIG FRAUD - DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY FOR A 'CONTEST'; FOUNDATION DOES NOT SUPPORT ORGANISATIONS
I was recently contacted by 1340Gallery on instagram about my art work, asking me to pay 30US$ to join an art competition.
I checked their website online to see if it is a fraud. And they listed 20 initiatives they allegedly support (with the money from the competition).
I made the effort to contact all 20 initiatives directly asking if they received any money from 1340Gallery and if they heard from them.
Here are a few responses:
"We’ve never heard of the 1340 gallery and they don’t support us at all.
Our advise don’t pay at 1340 gallery."
"Someone else contacted us a few weeks ago - I would avoid paying any money to them.
We have had no contact with them and currently have never received any support from them. We have recently contacted them ask why they have listed us."
“I am honestly not sure what to tell you!
They did reach out to us, and they did make a small contribution to our organization.
It appears they have just found us online and are reaching out to the artists in our database.”
"We are not affiliated with 1340 gallery, they copy-pasted our info onto their website. Please use your own discretion in dealing with them. We are concerned that they are taking money from artists."
“1340gallery is not a member and we have no association with them.”
“We do NOT receive money from this initiative.”
“We have not accepted any donation or support from the organization and also have no relation or partnership with them. ”
1340Gallery, please contact me to return my money as this is obviously a big fraud on the internet and the money from the "contest" does not support the organsations you listed on your website.
UPDATE: 1340Gallery returned my money quickly.
Here is my reply to their answer:

You were also quick in editing your list of supported organisations from 20 down to 3.
I am still confused:
Why would you list organisations on your website as "supported" by your foundation when they have never heard of 1340Gallery before?
Wouldn't it make much more sense to do so AFTER you donated to their organisation and also got their permission to name them on your website?
To which organisations did you donate the money (can you name them)?
I would suggest that instead of taking money from artists for so called contest entries,
you start the good (art) work by being sincere and start donating the money to the organisations you talked about.
Until then I still believe this is a fraud company.

The causes disaster of 2018. We got excited! We decided that we wanted to donate part of the competition proceedings to art related causes. Our team immediately made a list of 20 charities we wanted to give to. We put them on our website (maybe not very smart). The responses of the causes didn’t come. We wondered if maybe they were not interested in our donations. Only 3 of the 20 were interested. Our plan was to donate smaller amounts on a regular basis. So we immediately transferred our first donations. Then the quarter came to an end. So we needed to focus on the magazine. It would’ve been better if we had just removed the causes that didn’t respond yet. Hindsight is 20/20.
We again apologize for the upset caused. That said, we have chosen to go for a different approach where we focus on one cause per quarter. We need one for Q4 still and would like it if you could you contact us if interested in providing us with the name of any art related non-profit organizations in your country that you would like us to donate to. We will feature them in that edition too then.

Thank you for showcasing my artwork for the 1340Gallery blog. It is a great place to be for artists. It is also very significant that one can only appear once an invitation has been issued. This ensures the site's high quality as curators and professionals from the international art scene has pre-screened those who are allowed to be featured. I feel honoured and suggest that this system is continued. It would also be useful if this pre-screeing would help artists not working with an actual gallery to be able to showcase their art for art fairs or their committees deciding on attendance, such as in Basel or Brussels, or elsewhere, where without a gallery they cannot appear. At these big art fairs there could be an exhibition area for such artists which were chosen via the 1340 Gallery. This could be a huge boost for everyone in the art world if 1340 Gallery could showcase and physically exhibit at these big international art fairs. You can see the magazine on Issuu and maybe you should get a subscription so you can even check every quarter if it’s still real. The winners are in there and are all artists. Just check them out, they make cool stuff.
Same counts for the blog, YouTube channel and Instagram page. All real people. Like their images. Follow them, Check out their Websites (Yes we tag them and provide contact details). They would love you to check it. Also, it’s probably best if you don’t tell our magazine team that you believe the magazine is fictitious. Many many stressful hours and dedication goes into each edition.

Im not sure what to think. I have read many of the same comments about this magazine contest and they want me to submit my work. Me being excited I did but now they want me to pay? Its very convincing if its a scam. I even created an awesome piece and now im like really? Its fine regardless but its kinda looking like they may a scam and Im broke and would be really sad if I got scammed by them,

Pretty obvious scam
Pretty obvious scam. First they ask you to submit your work, then send you an email that they want to print your work in their magazine, but first you need to pay them $20-30.
They are currently VERY active on Instagram. Beware.

I was approached by them and all I can say is: that's very much predatory. Actually like the "artist" is the customer, not the creator!
Legit magazines and galleries MAKE you money, not TAKE your money.
+ Where are the official rules of your fake contest ? Impossible to found them, and surprisingly no answer from you about that.

I was impressed with the excellent communication from the 1340gallery site after I made the purchase. It was very professional and frequent. The painting arrived promptly and was in fine condition. Now I feel good about listing my own art (soon) to present for sale.

Scammer! Only a rental postal address box in the Netherlands so they could registrate their fake bussiness at the The Dutch Chamber of Commerce (to make it look legit). There is no gallery!
Apparently "owned" by a Dutch 'artist' from Amsterdam with an instagram account with a lot of (fake) followers but few likes on his pictures.
He 'rebranded' the magazine (you can find an article online). But what he actually does is using the name to scam other artist.
I live in the Netherlands and also recieved the same invitation & e-mails. Didn't trust it, so decided to check out the address on the email & registration at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce. All fake.
Don't give any money-use it to create more art & evolve into becoming a better artist.
*UPDATE* this review was just reported by 1340gallery themselves without ANY any explaination/reason! More reason to have the real truth out on the internet about this scammer.

In The Netherlands, it’s not possible to register a company with a P.O. Box address. It’s a good thing that’s the case. Our team consists of talented art enthusiasts all over the world with 25% being artists themselves. Part of our support team is based in South Africa and The Netherlands. Other team members are located in Italy, and in the US. A global team that works through Skype, video and email mostly. Our company is registered in The Netherlands. The address on our registration was the house of the founders. We just don’t live in the big offices' era anymore. We had people showing up to that place, so we decided to add our postal office address instead. After reading your comment, we regret it. We have now decided to rent a basic office and use that address in our contact info. Please contact us directly for any queries or concerns and we will be happy to provide more details.
