ZappTax can be useful for small purchases, whether online or in-store. However, refunds take a long time (never less than two, sometimes up to three months), and the rates are not any better than those offered by traditional tax-refund operators.

For expensive purchases or luxury brands, there are several important drawbacks. When you use ZappTax, the invoice is issued in the tjeir name, meaning that ZappTax (not you) is officially recorded as the customer. If I were buying a piece of jewellery from Cartier, for example, I would much rather have the Cartier invoice issued in my own name.

This may also create an issue with the warranty, as it could be registered in ZappTax’s name rather than yours, since the company is technically the purchaser.

Finally, you need to decide whether you are comfortable having hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars in refunds pending for several weeks with a start-up that could potentially disappear overnight.

Overall, it may be a convenient option for smaller purchases, but I would personally be more cautious when using it for expensive items.

I used it when I was in Lille at the beginning of June 2026, and 3 months later, I still have not received anything, although I completed all the steps and uploaded all the necessary documents. I got everything validated at customs. Today, my account on the app seems to have disappeared, and all the documents/receipts I had uploaded have disappeared too. I called the customer service and asked to speak in English. It looks like the person on the phone could only speak French (She did not even try to speak a single word in English). I can speak French anyway, but not sure why they give the option. I am really disappointed with the vague answers about when I will receive the tax refund or when the app will work again. The woman on the phone seems to say there is no money in the bank because they are a small company. I will NOT use their services again.

Délai de traitement inquiétant, je pense que soit ils sont au bord de la cessation de paiement et font tout pour conserver la trésorerie soit ils se moquent des clients. Pour l'instant je regrette d'être passé par eux, j'espère me tromper.

Buying tax-free has always been a challenge.
Zapptax certainly ensures that the administrative part runs more smoothly.
Unlike providers such as Global Bleu, for example, the merchant no longer needs a provider-specific tax-free form. An invoice, or even a receipt, suffices.
As a result, you can buy from any store, even those with no experience in tax-free sales.
In that sense, Zapptax is a real game-changer.
Their app is user-friendly and their customer service is exceptionally good.
Let's hope that Zapptax expands its scope to other EU countries such as the Netherlands and especially Germany.

Only one minor point of attention: the timeframe within which the refunds are paid. That could be a bit faster.

i have had a great experience with ZappTax in all of my previous trips. The app is really clear and easy to use. Lots of useful explanation in the FAQ especially how to validate the forms at customs. The customer service is quick and efficient and each representative has been kind and helpful.

J'ai découvert Zapptax lors de mon séjour en France en juillet 2026. Avant, je passais par Globalblue en pensant que je n'avais pas le choix.
L'expérience Zapptax a révolutionné ma façon de récupérer la TVA. L'appli est hyper simple d'utilisation, l'équipe de Zapptax est très réactive. Deux avantages énormes :
* le cumul des petits achats, impossible avec globalblue !!
* le taux de récupération de TVA qui dépasse largement celui de Globalblue.
Pour 1930 TTC euros d'achats cumulés (même pour de petits montants), je récupère 257 euros, soit environ 16% du prix hors taxe (80% de la TVA), c'est loin d'être négligeable.
Désormais, je ne passerai que par Zapptax.

Zapptax offre un super service qui facilite la détaxe. Plateforme facile, intuitive. Point essentiel: disponibilité des interlocuteurs et rapidité de réactions en cas de questions. Il est possible de parler à quelqu'un au téléphone ou en chat. Et pas d'IA!C'est rare et précieux !! Ça fait depuis 2022 qu'on utilise Zapptax. A recommander à 200%

Bordereau validé le 25.05.26 et toujours pas reçu le remboursement de la détaxe. Cela fait déjà plus de 2 mois maintenant. Ils prétextent d’attendre le remboursement de la atVA via le gouvernement mais comment font global blue et les autres entreprises de détaxe qui remboursent leur clients sous quelques jours/semaines après validation? C’est à Zapptax de pouvoir avancer les liquidités et de rembourser le client final et ensuite recevoir le remboursement total du gouvernement. Ce n’est pas à nous d’attendre! Je me demande s’ils ne gardent pas les fonds eux le temps de travailler sur notre argent et nous rembourser plus tard, ça manque de transparence et ce n’est pas normal!

C'est la seconde fois que je demande une détaxe par Zapptax et je ne suis pas déçu rapidité, efficacité et convivialité des employés.

Toujours joignable, réactif et aidant

All the professionals at Zapptax were really helpful in setting up my detax forms for my trip to Europe. Due to some unfortunate circumstances (short layover) on my way out of Europe, I was unable to get a refund. Chantal from Zapptax went above and beyond to help me consult with French customs and embassy after I was back in the US, but, I was asked to visit French Consulate in San Francisco, and the amount of my refund was small enough that making a trip there would be impractical. Nevertheless, even though things didn't work out for me, I appreciate the team at Zapptax for trying everything they could to help me out.
