So difficult to leave
The gym is decent for the price and I like that there's a women's section. But, it was an absolute nightmare to quit. I quit it before lockdown and they took another payment out of my account. Over lockdown they didn't process any cancellations and they ignored my cancellation once the gym reopened. I had to send another cancellation to avoid my membership being continued. They also have a 30 day notice period (which most gyms don't have). It's still unclear whether I have quit or not because the customer service emailed me with a link that took me back to the cancellation form.
It's good for the price but if you're joining for a short period, I wouldn't bother because of the cancellation process - expect to be charged twice again once you've sent a cancellation.
Cancelling membership is a nightmare
Gym is decent. Very good for price.
Extremely frustrating that they make it so difficult to leave the gym. Cancelling my direct debit cannot be done through the bank so have to go through the Xercise4Less system. Then I cannot log in as I am not a member anymore as I have left the gym a year ago. Turns out you can leave the gym but they will continue charging you until you ask them not to. I have paying my membership for over a year after leaving the gym. Possibly I am at fault for not reading the fine print but it still leaves me with a sour taste in my mouth after the experience and a sense of insincerity and untrustworthiness on their behalf
I cancelled my DD THREE YEARS ago
I cancelled my direct debit with them after realising that they had been taking money out of my account for THREE YEARS without my knowledge. I had cancelled my gym membership over three years ago yet Harlands (who work on behalf of the gym) had still been taking money out of my account. They then had the gall to send me a automated email saying I will incur an admin fee if I don't restart my direct debit. Who the hell do these lot think they are? Scam artists. How dare they email me? I cancelled my gym membership over three years ago so, if anything, they owe me over £360
Someting odd going on
Someting odd going on. I received an email from Harlands yesterday telling me that they would now restart my DD at £11.99 per month. Odd, because I’ve been paying £9.99 per month. No email to tell me about an increase. An hour later, another email telling me that Harlands had sold my gym. NOW, if the buyers have been shown a set of accounts which showed £11.99 payments rather than £9.99 payments then the income of the business has been overstated to the new owners. Due diligence is required!
DEBT UPDATE! DO NOT JOIN!!
I was asked to email exercise4less after my last review to sort out my cancellation problem. I notice the only ploy of doing this is to make it look like they are helping you. I emailed the address and also followed up with another email chasing it. No reply has been made in nearly 5 weeks.
Im appalled at the way I've been treated by the debt recovery. The most unethical gym I've ever experienced, an absolute disgrace. No attempt has been made to come to a resolution.
2nd word of warning. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!

Disgusting instalments and horrible customer service. If you try to cancel your membership, they will tell you your membership does not exist while they keep charging your card.

my Chesterfield branch, is large, plenty of equipment, ample parking , and spotlessly clean. I like the fact you can use other branches without being penalized, awesome if your working in other locations. my one concern is HARLANDS, hard to get through to them, as I left the area, but then returned.

Exercise4less is a great gym, but that is not why I am here. The reason why Im here is to name and shame another Bolton gym that isnt on Trustpilot. That gym is Phoenix gym located at Unit 19, Bradley Fold Trading Estate, Radcliffe Moor Rd, Bolton BL2 6RT. If you are looking to join a gym after lockdown please DO NOT join Phoenix gym. That gym is only good if you are looking for a gym where you can buy steroids behind the counter and inject them into your body in the toilets. You can also leave your dirty needle with their large collection of needles which tend to be scattered across the toilet floor or in the sink, that is unless the owners son Scott has decided to have a tidy up for once in his life. Scott is a guy who inspires to look like a meathead version of Donald Trump and who has surpassed his goal by making his entire body the same color as Trumps face after he has applied his fake tan in the morning. About 90% of times I went to the counter to pay, Scott was either too busy working out or on the stand up sunbeds that they have in the gym because apparently he is way more important than customers are. He seems nice when you talk to him apart from all the swearing and rubbish that comes out of his mouth. His father who apparently owns the gym is actually alright to be fair, but for some silly reason decides to let Scott run it in to the ground. There have been a few girls/women visit the gym on few occasions while I was there who didn't bother returning to the gym after being followed around and mithered by Scott. Either way the gym has a load of old equipment that needs replacing with new equipment. It is very messy and has no showers. I mean, seriously? A gym without showers?.. It is probably a good job they don't have showers though to be honest as nobody wants to stub their toe on a dirty needle.
I am very sorry if exercise4less did not want to see this comment on here but I would recommend exercise4less to anybody in Bolton looking to join a gym. All the best on your search people, I hope you do decide to join this gym instead of any other gym as it is the best one you will find wether you are male or female. Please do not join Phoenix though or else you will wish that you didn't.

HARLANDS, DON'T TOUCH UNTIL THEY GET RID
I am giving xercise4less 3 stars because as a cheap gym you get what you pay for, a simple nice clean gym experience, nothing more nothing less BUT they'd get 5 stars if it wasn't for their partnership with HARLANDS and CRS! HARLANDS manage their direct debit system and woe betide you if you fall foul of their ridiculous direct debit cancellation system because then you get to deal with CRS, Harlands debt collection sister company. Neither of these are directly related to xercise4less but you wouldn't know that.
I had exactly the same problems as everyone, I thought, apparently, you could cancel a direct debit in writing by giving 30 days. Oh how wrong I was! Any other business would accept this but no Not Harlands. You, according to them, have to cancel via their app, it doesn't matter whether it works or not, you can then expect at least one more dd then your membership stops 30 days after that! What's wrong with this? 1, the app doesn't always work 2, the consumer act says the use of an app cannot be enforced 3, isn't that 60 days after you wanted to stop your membership? Well doesn't matter to HARLANDS or CRS, they won't even bother answering your emails directly if you try and point any of these things out to them. THEY WANT YOUR MONEY! Now let's move onto CRS, well they will try every trick in the book. Text messages 2 hours after their contact centre is closed but the message says call them urgently. The text message doesn't even tell you who they are or why you need to call them, just read the email they send, that's assuming the email arrives in your inbox or you actually monitor your spam box or even that you don't assume its spam because you don't know who CRS is after all, they've never been mentioned by name in any of the communications with HARLANDS. Oh and let's not forget the text message that also comes later saying they want to speak to you about a letter they've sent you. What letter? Never got a letter? Is this the one threatening court action? Better give them a call to speak to them and get a copy of the letter. Well they didn't actually send you one, well they never responded by letter to previous communications why would you think they would this time. Doh, how daft can you get.
The only way to resolve this is speak to your gym manager. You might get a lecture for not cancelling properly but after 6 months of Harlands, you can cope with that can't you.
To xercise4less, HARLANDS and CRS are acting in YOUR name, you may not want your customer to be treated like this but it's up to you to tell Harlands how to treat customers who fall foul of this cancellation process or else you will lose customers going forward. I certainly won't entertain any gym who uses Harlands to manage their membership

Ending your membership is not that easy.
The gym itself was great, but due to a move I had to cancel my subscription. A month after cancelling it I received an email from Harlands saying I was in debt to them for not paying my monthly subscription. I explained I had cancelled it a month ago. But they said I needed to cancel it and they would stop the payment. 2 more months later and they are still taking my money out. I have cancelled it again an I am really cross. Ending your contract does not seem so easy.

Do not join Exercise4less!!! I joined the Bradford gym back in 2016, the membership should have only been for a year, Harlands continued taking money out of my account up until November 2019. I had only been to the Gym once prior to firstly joining and never went back, as a result of being lied to or mislead which the questions I raised over the phone call whilst making a membership (I.s facilities, less amount of equipment, male and female section not being completely segregated etc) however when I realised this payment was being taken out of my account I contacted the gym and spoke to the manager on many occasions, very poor customer service from him and was not willing to resolve my payment issue, I tried to cancel the membership as I failed to do so because of an error appearing saying the email address is incorrect, contacting the gym once again and having explained this, I asked for the email address in which they have, having read out an incorrect error in the email I gave my email address once again, the manager eventually cancelled the membership and I cancelled the Direct debit myself, a month later I recieved a email from Harlands requesting £82 of payments, I have up until today still trying to resolve this payment matter. I am absolutely disgusted in both Xercise4less and Harlands!!!!

Great Gym But Beware Of Cancellation Fees
I really enjoyed going to this gym but had to leave for personal reasons. I cancelled via direct debit (which is the incorrect way to do so) and got chased by debt collectors.
Nikki from Xercise4Less helped me out with the debt collection agency which I owe her thanks for. I will now be happy to return to Xercise4Less when I am ready.

I cancelled my gym membership back in September 2019 and they are STILL taking payments every month, I have tried to submit yet ANOTHER cancellation and it will not allow me to do so!
The amount of people I have heard and spoken with the exact same issue is DISGUSTING!!!
The amount of time I have spoken with the reception desk in the St Helens branch, they have always tried to refer me back to Harlands offering ZERO HELP with my ongoing issue.
I then contact Harlands who then redirect me back to Xercise 4 less so I am going round and round in circles, I want this resolving ASAP before I take legal action, I believe I can locate more than 10 others in my local area with this issue.
Give me back my money and cancel down my membership!!!

avoid unhygienic XERCISE4LESS
i have visited gyms before but only just in my first visit i found there is no hygiene anywhere in the gym, no cleaning spray and no cleaning tissues so that the person who use the equipment must clean it after use and this also becomes more important in this coronavirus time , and i just visited dundee gym once and same day i cancelled my membership, i was still in my first month and not sure how cancellations works they sent an email to wait for the next direct debit which will be for another month and then it will get cancelled at end of that period, so your cancellation isn't for a month notice it is more than that .......worst gym in safety and hygiene to use .....i am writing this today as i just saw and email regarding hygiene came through in coronavirus time.....and when i visited last coronavirus was still there even in TAYSIDE ........and they were not worried about hygiene at that time , i even asked my husband to cancel his membership who have never visited inside the gym but got his fingerprint and pic taken for sign up purposes........and i am sure he will pay the same around two.months until it gets cancelled.....

Don’t join or be slapped with huge fees to leave!
So due to not attending much following injury I made the decision to cancel for the time being as was on the 30 day contract.i thought paying this (£19,99) was the cheaper way to remove myself if needed however as I have learnt is not the case.
I cancelled my membership and also cancelled my direct debit thinking my last charge had been taken. ( my error I realise)
I was then contacted by harlands group to say I owed £44.99 as a admin charge had been added. However this email went into spam I didn’t see it. Then I find another email saying I now owe £69.99 as I haven’t responded!!! Well how am I supposed to pay up if I wasn’t even aware!!! Customer services at harlands was very poor basically told me tough pay up not our fault your email went in spam, I’m happy to pay the £19.99 to clear my membership but to have £50 ‘admin charges’ in 11 days... yes all triggered in only 11 DAYS is beyond extortionate!! Needless to say I’m now locked in a complaint battle with them. Not only has this experience left me with no longer wanting to use any service associated with harlands again, but it has reflected poorly on Xercise4Less for using them to process direct debits. You have so many reviews saying the same.... maybe you need to consider your processes as I will now spread the word locally/ not return to Xercise4Less in the future as a result. The people’s gym you are NOT after my experience.

AVOID! DO NOT USE!
Signed up to exercise for less over two years ago for 6 months whilst working away from home. Rang up to cancel my membership as money was still coming out of my account to which the lady on the phone confirmed it had been cancelled and payments would not longer be taken. A few months later I realised payments were still being taken from the company to which then I cancelled the direct debit to exercise4less through my bank. Today I have come home to have a letter from a debt collector informing me that I owe them over £200!!! Highly frustrated and annoyed I rang the debt collectors who were so understanding and explained that I was not the only person to be surprised by this and that exercise4less has done this to several people and that they could only apologises for delivering the news.
Safe to say exercise4less are an scamming company who are just ripping people off left, right and centre!!!

No Communication - Cancelled Direct Debit
Been trying to contact Xercise4less for nearly 2 weeks with no response from them. Trying to resolve an issue with mine and my children’s accounts regarding direct debit not being setup. Made contact with Harlands their billing company who trying to charge me £25 per account. My children are under 18 so they legally cannot charge this. Trying to re-instate the direct debits on mine and 3 other accounts, but they are not returning or answering emails. Even emailed them from their branch in Newport yet no reply.
They obviously do not want the extra business and have no customer care skills.
