Their store pickup is false advertising!

I placed a store pickup order with Cost Plus World Market after receiving repeated email and SMS promotions advertising 10% off for store pickup. The messaging strongly implied same-day or near-immediate pickup. Based on that, I placed and paid for my order.

The order was confirmed and charged, but I never received a “ready for pickup” notice. Around 4:30 PM, I called the Oakland store. After finally reaching someone, they looked for the order, could not find it, and told me they would fulfill it and to wait for the email.

At 6 PM, I contacted customer support with my order number. Shortly before the store closed, I received a response from customer service stating that store pickup can take up to 72 hours.

That is absolutely not what was advertised. If I had been told upfront that pickup could take three days, I would never have placed the order. Advertising store pickup without clearly disclosing a 72-hour delay is misleading at best and deceptive at worst.

I have also repeatedly asked to be removed from their email list, which has not been respected.

At this point, I just hope getting a refund is straightforward. I was charged under false pretenses, and the experience has completely eroded my trust in this company.

How hard it is to ship a gift card

How hard it is to ship a gift card. I bought a gift card on 12/ 7 and it still has not arrived on 12/23. They say it will be here on the 24th. YOU SUCK. I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM YOU AGAIN!!!

Selling old Stock!

Ordered some British cookies which were delivered today. Found out they all expire in 6 weeks. Pathetic that they feel dumping old stock on someone who was a loyal customer is perfectly acceptable. Last time using their online service!

Williamsburg VA store

This is a review for the Williamsburg, VA store. On 11/26/25 I purchased two ornaments with a sign saying three for $12. When I checked out I was charged $4.99 each. I pointed out that, BY LAW, a retailer must sell at the lowest advertised price. In this case, $4.00 each. Manager didn't budge. If you go to this store be prepared to - possibly be charged more than the advertised price, AND, have their manager act like you are a piece of garbage.

Cool stuff; terrible service experience

I really like the interesting, varied and multicultural items that World Market offers, but as a company, they are a MESS! The other reviews here reflect this.

Their targeted marketing includes items that are sold out. Their website is a hot mess in terms of speed, functionality, and not hiding items that are no longer available.

I ordered two gift cards as housewarming gifts in the last 5 months. The first one, which was digital, was not delivered smoothly. To truly to avoid this, I ordered the second one to be delivered via mail. It never moved after it was delivered “shipped.” Customer service told me I had to wait an arbitrary week before following up. Surprise- still hasn’t moved 10 days later. Customer service has mot responded after 32 hours. I may just try to recoup this with my credit card company so as to not waste any more of my valuable time. This company offers terrible customer experiences and seems completely oblivious to it.

Positive experience

Customer Service Kudos for World Market – Tukwila & Renton Stores

I had never been to a World Market until recently, and I was so pleasantly surprised! My friend purchased the coolest, most comfortable chair, and I picked up a bunch of home décor and wall art that I absolutely love.

After I got home, I noticed one item had a few issues. I called the Tukwila store to check if they had another one in stock or if another location might. They looked it up for me and sent me to the Renton store, where I called ahead and asked them to set one aside. When I arrived, not only did they have it ready, but I also found another piece of art I loved. Although it was the last one, they kindly offered to give me the display off the wall! They also exchanged my original item with no hassle at all.

Later, I called Robert at the Tukwila location to ask if he could hold another item for me, since I couldn’t make it to the store right away and didn’t want it to sell out. He was more than willing to help and held it for me for a couple of days—so appreciated!

Nick and Alex at the Renton store were also incredibly kind and made my entire transaction easy and pleasant.

As someone who works with the public, I know how often people complain—but rarely do they take the time to say, “Good job!” So I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone involved. I can’t remember the last time I was this impressed with customer service at any store.

Kudos to the teams at Tukwila and Renton—you’ve gained a loyal customer!

SO, IN THE MEANTIME, I HAVE HAD TO ADD COST PLUS TO MY BLOCKED EMAIL CONTACTS, AND STILL HAVE TO CLEAN THAT OUT EVERY FREAKUNG TIME I GET AN UNEANTED EMAIL FROM THEM. DOES MY REVIEW HAVE TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL STORE? NOPE, BUT I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WHAT THEY WILL HAVE TO PUT UP WITH WHEN SIGNED UP FOR EMAILS, AND YOU NO LONGER WANT TO RECEIVE EMAILS FROM COST PLUS WORLD MARKET. Absolutely horrible experience

Absolutely horrible experience. Purchased a rug twelve days ago and it still has not shipped. I have emailed and called multiple times and cannot get anyone to give me clear information regarding when my order might be shipped (let alone arrive). I have been given plenty of form responses and wrong/contradictory information, though. One person said it 'was already shipped.' Another promised a specific ETA only for her supervisor to inform me that the ETA would not be honored and my order would be delayed. The ETA is still unknown and the company continues to hold my order hostage. Do not trust them with your money or time.

Damaged items, not refunded.

I ordered 3 items, and 2 of them were completely destroyed in shipment. They didnt even bother to wrap a coffee mug, just tossed it in the box. Unsurprisingly, it did not survive transit. They did refund me for these two damaged items but won't refund shipping. I certainly wouldn't have paid $12.95 to have a coffee mug shipped. I'm happy tonpay for the one item I received that wasn't damaged but I dont feel like I should pay for shipping when they can't even be bothered to wrap a ceramic mug in tissue paper. I'll dispute this with my credit card.

Absolutely the worst customer service…

Absolutely the worst customer service I’ve ever received for an online order in years! I placed an order for a bathroom mirror a month ago that was delivered to the wrong location, when I called to find out where it was delivered to I was told it went back to their warehouse because it was damaged. And that a replacement will be shipped out to me. After more than a week went by I called again to find out where the replacement is, and was told that it is backordered for a few weeks. I also realized that a local store has one left in stock that they are holding for me so I asked for my online order to be canceled. I have now been waiting five days and still have not received a cancellation and refund for this order that never arrived and is now back ordered. I’ve wasted over six hours with customer service trying to get a refund for this so that I can purchase the mirror that’s in stock at the store. So far, no luck.

Underhanded

Checked three (3) times on availability before I ordered - all within 10 minutes.
Ordered online for store pickup.
Paid.
No response from World Market.
When I called to check on my order, I was casually told it was backordered
.. yet they had already charged my credit card. Sleazy business dealings. Canceled order and deleting my account.

This is a review for the Tucson Arizona…

This is a review for the Tucson Arizona Broadway store, whom I have been going into the store for many years. I am disappointed with a couple things first of all they have product sitting on shelves in the food section specifically Sriracha sauce the sauce has changed color to a dark brown, and I know that it should not be on the shelf. Sriracha sauce should be bright red when it is fresh so obviously they have left either expired or nearly expired product on the shelf for customers to buy very disappointing any manager that was decent would realize that that stuff needs to be thrown away. The other thing is the restrooms are always not dirty but neglected they obviously don’t care about their customers experience, the whole experience means a lot, even keeping the restrooms up-to-date and super clean would go a long way!

Worst experience ever with ordering online.

OMG, where do I begin! I order a chair ($500) online with them. The date of delivery was crucial for us for various reasons. As after placing the order we saw that the delivery date did not match the expected date when we placed the order, we contacted their customer service. Immediately after we placed our order. We did also found out that in fact the chair was available in one of our local stores. So before our payment is processed, we asked them to cancel it. They said this was impossible, we talked to a manager who also said they will try to cancel it but it is very unlikely...as their system does not allows them to. A label was created couple of days later, the shipping initiated, and hence we didn't go to our local store for the chair. One day before it was supposed to arrive to us (on time...whitin the timeframe that was originally at their website) they decided to cancel the order as per our request, ad they said...reminder: we were concerned of the delays they were stated by them that the item may have...and when the item did not have any delays...they just canceled it one day before it's delivery. The item by that time was not available in our local store...and hence, we never got the chair that was supposed to be a present for my mother's 80 birthday....we talked again with them...once again there was nothing they could do...very rude and insufficient customer service.

I should have looked over the reviews, and the reviews are correct...…

I should have looked over the reviews before i made a purchase here. WOrld market has to be one of the most unprofessional stores. Not only do they take forever to get back to your concerns, they purposely make it more inconvenient for the buyer to resolve issues. It doesnt take 3-5 days to someone to call me to set up a return. It should only take 1 phone call. It shouldnt take a whole team to logistically figure out how to pick up a package, it should only take 1 phone call. For all those who are looking to purchase on the world market website, DO NOT. It will most likely come damaged, and a huge headache to fix that problem.

sales tax

Washington state does not tax food except restaurant ,take out or fast food , prepared food. I was charged tax on a jar of pie filling , it's right off the shelf no preparation or service involved. This is against Washington state tax laws. World Market is NOT an ethical company.

Terrible Service

A couple of days after I ordered several sale items from World Market online, I received a message that the order was cancelled because the items were out-of-stock. As this was not noted in the advertised sale for the item, I asked that a "rain check" be provided in which they would honor the sale price and I would receive items once they had been re-stocked. All I got back was a reiteration of the out-of-stock claim and issue was unresolved. This is terrible service and I shall not return.

Another bad experience with World Market

This is the second bad experience I've had with online ordering from World Market, and I don't plan to give them a third chance to frustrate me. I placed an order on April 6 that is supposed to arrive by April 26. As of April 23 I have not received any order updates or shipping notifications. When I emailed them, their response was "Thank you for your inquiry; Your order is in process, it gonna take a few more days." This is extremely unhelpful, as it provides no real explanation for where in the "process" my order is and whether it will arrive on time.

I ordered some drink glasses

I ordered some drink glasses - VERY poor packaging. One item was broken. I called - they credited me for that and then I ordered 4 more glasses. They have never shown up. I called today as the tracking keeps saying just the label was generated. Last email said the order is "delayed." Now the item is out of stock!! I am beyond livid!

Surprisingly expensive

Surprisingly expensive. For example, a bottle of vanilla you can get any day at HomeGoods for $12 is $25. Scottish shortbread also double the price. Small package of cocktail napkins $6. Quality of many items not that great.

I love the World Market, so many goodies!

I absolutely love the World Market! I am a frequent shopper and appreciate the good quality of all their products. I recently purchased the Vintage Santa mugs online after being unable to find them in store. They were packaged with care and received within a day. Another perfect, seamless transaction.
