Brought a sushi box from Gourmet Sushi…

Brought a sushi box from Gourmet Sushi counter in Sainsbury’s Marsh Mills Plymouth. The rice was so wet and stodgy, at the same time the rice had no flavour! It’s the worst sushi I have ever tasted.

Generationally Bad Food

If I could give 0 stars, I would. How on God's green green Earth is it possible for you to make food so inedible? I had the Korean Chicken Rice Bowl and my rice was quite literally frozen, it was crunchy and extremely cold. I also unfortunately got the Chicken Gyoza, which honestly didn't even taste like chicken. What was in that Gyoza. Funnily enough that wasn't even the worst part, the Japanese Soy Sauce that came with the Gyoza tasted like OXIDISED PETROL. The food has left me with a headache AND a stomach ache, It was digested 30 mins prior to me writing this review. Close the company.

Day old sushi sold

While I have been a long time customer of Sushi Gourmet and I really appreciate the kind & helpful staff, I am concerned of a recent experience.
Last Sunday, 3/8, I bought some sushi at my local Sainsbury's and didn't notice it had Sunday's date instead of the following day's for freshness. When I opened the boxes, the rice was dry and inedible. Why doesn't the company make customers aware that some of the sushi is from yesterday and some from today? Why not sell yesterday's at a discount with a bright sticker so customer's have a choice?
Is it good Health & Safety practice to sell raw fish that is a day old?
(And the email that is advertised in this site to let Sushi Gourmet know doesn't work:)

Dry, hard, tasteless

I love sushi, and confess to having bought it from Japanese restaurants/takeaways and eating homemade.
Despite buying from Sushigourmet a number of times to give me a broader perspective, their food is sadly awful. The rice is undercooked and tasteless, with it being hard and dry after allowing it to come to room temperature. The tuna is very inferior and stringy. I don’t eat chicken/meat and so can’t comment on those products, but the he overall review is dry, hard, tasteless and inferior quality. To be honest I’m surprised they have lasted this long and Sainsburys haven’t given them the boot (unless they have a lock tight contract to operate from the stores.

Urgh

Urgh. Just had the Chicken katsu curry from Sushi Gourmet (Sainsburys camberley). You have to microwave it and truly, it’s nasty. Chicken and batter goes soft and with a horrible mouth feel and the katsu sauce with veg is slimey and oddly grainy. Rice dry and tasteless. Dinner will be an Easter egg!

Over price small portions

Over priced for the small portions. Just been in Sainsbury’s Nine Elms just before close and it appears this company would rather throw the food in the bin rather than reduce it or give it to charity. Shameful and blatant wastage!

Bought sushi from Brentwood Sushi…

Bought sushi from Brentwood Sushi Gourmet. The nigiri has large chunks of very hard inedible rice with very thin slices of fish. If they reduced the amount of rice and cooked it for longer and didn’t pack it together too tightly it would be better. I’ve tried the sushi on several occasions and it is very often like this which is real shame.

Used to be great sushi but now very poor

I have been buying sushi from sushi gourmet for years but yesterday's experience on New Year's Eve has totally put me off.

I spent £65 for a new years meal for my family but found all the rice in the sushi was hard, some uncooked and all unseasoned with rice vinegar. It was all very bland and unpleasant to taste sushi. Sushi Gourmet used to be good but has been getting more and more expensive. Its sushi is now totally inedible too.

I did complain to sushi gourmet via their website but after a week have had no reply as to how to resolve.

Hard and dry inedible sushi

Used to be great but the past 6 times i have bought sushi from here it has been hard and dry, clearly not fresh, and a waste of money as I cannot eat it. Considering its not the cheapest, and comparing to past good experiences, I am very disappointed with the quality.

At Bracknell, Sainsbury’s place should be checked for food standards!!!

I used to buy from sushi gourmet quite often before, but for the last 4-5 months I got sushi which was really dry, rice was not evenly cooked and the last thing which stopped me from coming was that salmon tartar had a sticky salmon inside,. The fish obviously gone bad before the staff decided to use it. This place don’t use sushi graded fish and use bad ingredients and overall if you don’t want to get poisoned like me, don’t go in there. So much better quality at Sushi daily

Absolutely awful sushi

Absolutely awful sushi. I bought from the sainsburies counter where it’s made fresh, I just don’t get how it can go so wrong. Used to be absolutely delicious. The sushi i just bought had stale and dry rice and the salmon sashimi was stringy and chewy. Do not waste your money.

Sushi on the go

If i feel like sushi and don't have time to order from my local sushi restaurant this is perfect.
Made on the day. Look at the dates to check when made.
Great idea. Pick up a treat my in sainsburys portswood southampton.

Farnham was is much bigger with more choice.

Horrible

I bought a £12 Classic Box of sushi and maki from the big Sainsburys in Basingstoke. The rice was so dry it was hard. I would have taken it back and complained but it was a 15 mile drive each way, taking up an hour of my time. The label said it was made yesterday, it should have been okay.
