I applied to medical school twice on my own and didn’t receive a single interview. It was discouraging and disheartening, and I knew that if I applied a third time, I needed expert guidance. After finding Shemmassian Academic Consulting, I submitted my information and was soon invited to meet with Dr. Shemmassian himself. He carefully assessed every part of my application and assured me that I didn’t need more gap years—just a strategic repackaging of my existing experiences. That reassurance gave me the confidence to take the leap, and I am so glad I did.

From the very start, I was paired with a writing advisor who genuinely cared about helping me present the most authentic version of myself while keeping my voice intact. My primary advisor was extremely knowledgeable and incredibly responsive—turning around edits quickly, answering questions thoroughly, and guiding me through each step of the process. What stood out most was the meticulous attention to detail. Nothing was ever rushed or green-lit just to move things along; every draft was read and re-read for flow, grammar, and content until it was perfect.

The process was rigorous, and it wasn’t easy balancing full-time work with countless essay revisions. But the support, structure, and encouragement I received made all the difference. The MCAT personal tutoring plan was incredible. Working one-on-one with a kind and knowledgeable tutor made all the difference. We were able to hone in on the topics that were difficult to me that may have been brushed over in a class/group setting, and didn't have to spend time on topics I had already mastered. We were also able to review in depth my practice exams, which was super helpful. I signed on somewhat late before my test date, and my score still increased quite a bit. Given ample time I know the Shemmassian team could have gotten me well past my goal score. I highly recommend them if you are wanting a personalized, non-traditional MCAT prep experience.

The zoom session that I had with Dr. Shemmassian was very engaging. I really learned a lot!

Dr. Shemmassian took the time to not just tell us but to help us understand the components of a great personal essay. He made sure to walk us through each step and instead of lecturing, his talk was very interactive which further enhanced the understanding that we gained.

Maybe the Worst decision I have made in the school path of my elder kids. Close to a Scam. They promise a lot and deliver poorly. They try to squeeze money from you with the use of tutors. And Forget about Dr. Shemm he is only there when he needs to sign you in. Even if you ask for him you wont see him again. I think the best thing they offer is their web page...just take all the info you can from there (with a grain of salt) and consider yourself lucky. Stay away. Stay with your conventional or regular College Advisor. They care a lot more about your kid.

This is a warning to anyone considering buying their secondaries. While it may be tempting to get example essays for all the schools in the US, it is actually very misleading and very overpriced. All of the essays, except the Noorda one, have been generated by ChatGPT. It is very obvious from the generic examples and excessive use of em-dashes for every single paragraph.
You could just generate example essays yourself using AI for free and spare paying so much money. I really regret this purchase.

My tutors were very supportive throughout my journey. They had separated the brainstorming and writing portions into different portions that helped me formulate my ideas and then write it into a well written essay. I definitely think that I would not be able to come up with the ideas through this consulting on my own. I achieved my goal despite seeking their aid late and not feeling very confident. They are very fast to respond and worked with me in all the steps for my medical school applications. Do yourself a favor and start early!

My experience with Shemmassian has been very poor. I used their tutoring services for months to prepare for COMLEX Level 1 and saw no improvement on my COMSAE scores. Be warned, this company is not qualified to provide tutoring services to osteopathic medical students. I was lied to multiple times and assured that they would be able to prepare me for my board exam, but the company has NO tutors employed with osteopathic medicine experience. I am down $11,000 now. Even worse, when I reached out to Shemmassian about my disappointment, my emails were ignored. I do not recommend them.

As with all pre med advising consulting services, working with an advisor is not cheap. However, among all the different companies, I truly believe that I got the best bang for my buck with Shemmassian. I specifically worked with Dr.Tran, who was an incredible source of knowledge and support throughout my application processs. Working with her has made this stressful process feel manageable and structured!
