I BOOKED A RESERVATION AND THEN WHEN THE FINISHING STEP CAME THROUGH IT ASKED IF I WANTED TRIP INSURANCE WHICH I DID. NOWHERE DID I SEE THAT THAT WAS NOT REFUNDABLE. I'M NOW OUT $248 AND WILL NOT BE R5ESCHEDULING ANYTHING FOR THIS TRIP OR EVER FOR SANDALS.
Sandals Grande Antigua
This was our first visit to Sandals. We stayed in a Caribbean Honeymoon Seaside Butler Suite and accidentally booked the Garden View. We didn't realize it until we got to the room, which felt dark and gloomy. Be careful of the room description versus the picture of the room when booking; the website can be a bit misleading. The room bar was well stocked with our favorite liquors, and ice was refreshed daily. The Butlers added some very nice, romantic set-ups each evening in our rooms. However, some basic amenities needed to be added to the room, such as suitcase racks, towel racks, wet bathing suit racks, and umbrellas.
The room's lack of amenities and gloomyness made it feel more like a bargain all-inclusive resort than a Sandals.
The beach was beautiful, with clear water and plenty of watersport activities right on the beach, including excursion pickups. The beach vendors can be a bit much but are very polite and will engage in conversation or leave you alone, depending on your engagement with them.
The food in the different restaurants was excellent and better than any other all-inclusive we've stayed in. The vibe and decor were beautiful, with many beachfront dining options. The restaurant hostesses and staff could have been more engaging and seemed uninterested, and often didn't look up or make eye contact with us when greeting or taking orders, which was a bit surprising. When resort staff did randomly engage us, we were delighted, only to realize later in the conversation that they were trying to sell us something like a spa experience or a photography session, which felt a little disappointing. The Butlers were the saving grace for getting a feel for Antiguan hospitality and easily saved our opinion of the experience. Without them, we'd not know how wonderful the people of the island are.
The nightly entertainment was fun and relaxing, and the karaoke at The Drunken Duck Pub was a lot of fun, with staff interaction.
Overall, we had a nice, romantic, relaxing trip and enjoyed our Sandals experience enough to book another at a different location next year. We gave our recommendation rating an "eight" because, while we would recommend staying here to our friends, we would have to provide them with a few "buts."
Flights cancelled- no refund
My husband and I went on our honeymoon to a sandals resort. We had a great time but then our flights leaving got cancelled and left us stranded for over 24 hours… American Airlines refunded the $1600 to Sandals (I have the receipt) but when I called the resort, they told me they are only entitled to give us $300 dollars back. The lady literally told me to take it up with American if I had an issue with it.
Avoid!
Arrived Friday June 28. We missed our first dinner reservation because the ferry that our sandals rep suggested left an hour late waiting on another flight. The first night, we ate at the pavilion. Food was cold, steak was terrible, salmon was way overcooked. The next morning we were up at 8AM. No chairs available by the pool. Or by any other pool. Had to share the breakfast buffet with the flies. Waiting on drinks for up to 30 minutes. Staff at restaurants seem miserable and unhappy. No restaurants with availability for dinner. We finally got another reservation now they are saying that will be canceled. Tonight, we were told to order room service, after hoping to get sushi. Guess what. Room service not answering. I have many videos of me calling them with no answer. I am paying almost a $1000 a night and have NO FOOD! This is NOT OK! I am requesting a partial refund. This has been a depressing stressful experience. I can not believe the glamour that surrounds the sandals name. I have pictures of sharp, broken tile in the walking area around the pool, broken light fixtures on our patio with the glass still laying out there. Water and beer are not automatically refilled, I have had to call and ask every day. Also, got up thirsty last night (because water was not refilled) and went to the club lounge. No water at all. Nothing. We were told we would have updates today at 2:00 about all of this hurricane news? Nothing.
Just a few side notes:
Resort is accessible to people that are not staying here. They can walk up on the resort and do so in the late hours.
Massages are done with masseuse wearing gloves. You may not care, but I have an issue with that “texture”.
Food was disappointing. Do not expect fresh seafood. Lots of frozen fries. Had to eat fish and chips due to closures.
Reservations are slim. You are not guaranteed to eat anywhere. There is not enough reservations for the amount of people here.
Be sure to get up at 6AM or you will be sitting on the ground.
Fortunately, I have pictures and videos.
We purchased travel insurance prior to…
We purchased travel insurance prior to date of travel. Due to Island being hit by hurricane Beryl, we wanted to cancel trip and reschedule later. However, we were rudely informed that we would lose all of our paid trip expense with no offer to reschedule at a later date. So what was the trip insurance suppose to pay for? Very very poor customer service. This was our second Sandals vacation scheduled and will be the last. Please do not fall prey to these deceptive tactics.
Our trip got cancelled due to category…
Our trip got cancelled due to category 5 hurricane. The resort wanted us to travel there within 7 days of our cancelled dates, and pay extra or pay for different flights out of pocket on top of paid flights with different airlines on dates that actually worked for us. Life doesn’t work that way, we have work, school and they refused to refund. We plan on filing a lawsuit to get our money back because well we didn’t cause the category 5 hurricane and obviously not going to Jamaica during a hurricane. Never again, and do not recommend!
Vacationed at Royal Bahamian in Jan
Vacationed at Royal Bahamian in Jan. It was not good. Staff seemed like new hires or annoyed by ordering food or drinks. Service extremely slow. Private island was supposed to be a highlight but everytime we ordered drinks we got an eye roll. Our toilet leaked and despite telling the lobby twice, no one ever showed until I tracked down a housekeeper (who got the job done). So disappointing given having saved for this time away.
I stayed at sandals barbados and the swim up bar made the trip
I stayed at sandals barbados and the whole trip was amazing. I just got home and miss it already. I wish I could live there. I loved the whole trip, but the resort was amazing. I have been to many islands in the Caribbean but barbados has been the best. The people you meet there are so friendly. I never felt any concern for safety as the locals are great. In the resort you have to hit the ocean front swim up bar. Zebe, Dwayne, Marisse, and Tashon will make your whole vacation. They are the best staff I could ever imagine to take care of me during a trip. I loved every minute of their conversation and drink pouring. They made the trip!
12 timesWe have stayed at Sandals Resorts 12…tinez
We have stayed at Sandals Resorts 12 times. The Resorts were wonderful, but over the last 5 years they are not being maintained. It seems they are more concerned a out building new Resorts and quit maintaining the rest. We just returned from our last experience. Every guest we talked to had problems ranging from rude staff, broken toilets, flooded rooms, poor air conditioning, hard to get room service and towels, hard to get pool towels, moldy showers, under staffed, no entertainment. Many were devoted return guests who will not return again. This was our 12th stay with Sandals and the Resorts are not being maintained. Pools have spalling, hot tubs are not heated, the recent room had poor air conditioning and the walls were streaked with water from humidity and floors were wet. One woman slipped on her floor in her room and had a bruised arm. We no longer recommend Sandals as we used to.
Cheap tequila and horrible views for ocean view rooms
We paid for a ocean view room in Barbados, which was more expensive, but it was my anniversary so I had no problem spending more. The room was horrible, the trees actually blocked the view of the ocean, and they switched their tequila to some cheap brand which was disgusting, We ended up spending most of my time off the resort. Next time we will definitely be using an airbnb
My wife and I stayed at Sandals Southcoast in Jamaica…
My wife and I stayed at Sandals Southcoast in Jamaica from April 13th – April 20th (2024) as part of our second anniversary celebration. We looked forward to our very first stay at a Sandals resort. In general, it was a pleasant vacation, and we enjoyed the accommodations and use of the various amenities. However, there were events that happened (or didn’t happen – as it were) that we started noticing with an increasing frequency. So much so, that I decided to create a list. The below items represent our feedback:
General
- Our luggage took at least 30 min to get to our room after we checked in. When we asked the luggage person where the ice was, he pointed to where it was instead of offering to go get it.
- The beds were very hard (much harder than average hotel beds).
- The music was way too loud during the daytime at the main pool. We had difficulty having a conversation with anyone. The DJ should consider suggestions for the type of music the crowd would most likely enjoy (e.g., country or 70s rock). At the smaller pool (closest to us) the DJ did take suggestions but went back to the same music after perhaps an hour.
- The service attitude was sometimes not very enthusiastic (especially among some of the women – no smiling, for example).
- A gift of chocolate strawberries (that we intended for our new friends) was sent to us instead of our friends. Our concierge said they would pay for the corrected order. Unfortunately, we had to walk down to the concierge and have them correct it. They didn’t immediately correct it and we had to ask again on our last morning (as we were checking out).
- We received a courtesy call for feedback on Wed. I asked them to call back because we were in the middle of something and couldn't talk. They never called back that day.
- There was a system issue when we were checking out (we had to walk to the front desk, and they also had issues).
- We didn’t notice any AED devices on site (in case someone has cardiac issues).
Room and Related
- The TV was old, and we couldn’t wirelessly cast our laptop computer to it for Netflix or Hulu.
- There was frequent TV pixelation, limited channels and no Netflix or Hulu option. We ordered an HDMI cable from the concierge, and they said that they would check on availability, but they never got back to us.
- Horrible free Internet service (almost always very slow).
- It took 3 tries and over an hour to get a scale sent to our room (useful for weighing ourselves and our luggage).
- We ordered diet drinks for our refrigerator and didn't get them until we ordered them again the next day.
- The pool directly outside our hotel room was out of commission for half of the week – it opened midweek (Wednesday).
- We ordered an in-room meal, and they said it would arrive in 40 min. It came 25 min later (65 min total). I ordered chips and they gave me fries. The bacon was barely cooked. The food was also lukewarm. Not a good experience.
- The cleaning service came at 5p (we shouldn't have to ask every day for cleaning before 4p). After we asked, it started coming during the days while we were out by the pool/ocean.
Restaurants
- The plates in the Bayside restaurant for the morning buffet were often missing. Food was sometimes not updated (e.g., cobbler missing for a considerable amount of time). We hardly got any service at our table the last full day we were there (and had to chase someone down for coffee). There was also no offer of mimosas.
- Candles should be placed outside for Eleanor’s Restaurant - it was too dark to see our food.
- Why are various restaurants closed on different days? All restaurants should be open daily for normal business hours.
Zero customer service when you run into a problem. They work off commission and is very noticeable
My biggest issue is the company trying to charge $10,000 more after we had to delay a year due to COVID for the same week same resort same room. After arguing on the phone for over an hour they drop the price to around $1800 more. This was more inline to what they should be charging year to year. There customer service from Sandals does not exist. If they think you're going to rebook the next year they kiss your ass. Soon as they know you're not booking they don't give you the time of day. There are so many places to visit and resorts to go to that are just as nice food wise and location wise. Buyer beware of booking Sandals.
I am very disappointed in Sandals…
I am very disappointed in Sandals reservations. I visited Sandals Dunns River in August of 2023 and had a fantastic time. I had such a great time I booked another reservation for 2024 with the on-site travel agent Lydia, who was terrific. However, I requested to have my new travel agent added to my new reservation and was denied. My agent who booked my trip in 2023 could have been better, and I will not use her again, but I was told that she is the agent I must use. I paid a deposit, which I was told was refundable, but now it is not. I will have to cancel my upcoming trip and lose my deposit to have my new agent involved. I do not understand why the agent is an issue.
Sandals st Lucia la toc
Great resort, great service 5* all the way, food was excellent and so were the staff, we loved it so much we booked Jamaica for next year
Recently visited Sandals Barbados
Recently visited Sandals Barbados. The good things - beautiful tropical gardens, immaculate and full of birds including humming birds and even some monkeys. Lovely beach although the sea can be quite rough at times. Nice room with good service. Some good restaurants and cafes.Nice choice of swimming pools and bars.
The not so good - several restaurants inconsistent, some good some poor. eg Bombay Indian restaurant, service terrible. Only go there if you think one hour between each course is acceptable and food average at best. However the main issue is having to book most restaurants in advance. They will typically turn you away even if 90% empty if you haven't booked. We stayed for one week and only on the penultimate day did we find out how to book restaurants at the so called 'Culinary Centre' which turned out to be a woman at a small portable desk in one of the pool bar areas (of which there are many) and she's only there for certain hours. The reception staff were particularly unhelpful in directions on where to find this desk and when it opened. Sandals really need to sort this out. We met one party of Americans who had given up and were regularly having dinner outside the resort and another family who had previously stayed at Sandals but now use a different hotel for this very reason. The swimming pool entertainment was a bit 'Benidorm'. The outdoor stage entertainment seemed to mainly involve the master of ceremonies continually shouting and screaming in a faux American accent, either drowning out the musicians or encouraging Americans couples to talk about their sex lives while the audience of similar nationality whooped and screamed in appreciation. All quite naff and generally best avoided. In summary, nice gardens, generally nice staff, nice beach and warm sea, nice pools but some restaurants iffy and difficult to book. Entertainment poor.
We absolutely love Sandals MoBay
We absolutely love Sandals MoBay. It's like coming home every year. The resort has undergone some renovations over the last few years and there are still more to come where it is looking a little dated.
It may not be everyone's cup of tea but we come back for the people. The staff are always friendly and we make more friends there every year. Some of the staff there we have seen since we started visiting there 20 years ago.
Our butlers, Carlene and Palmer, are the best and always make our trip as carefree and enjoyable as possible. Always going the extra mile to ensure we are well taken care of.
The bar staff at the beach bar are also fantastic. A big shout out this year to Peta-Gay and Bright from the beach bar. They work so hard delivering drinks in, extreme heat, along the beach and constantly made sure we were taken care of and well looked after. Superstars.
We're already booking for next year!
Very disappointed
Very disappointed! Staff is dismissive and not accommodating. Tried to schedule snorkeling trip for my husband’s birthday and was ignored, tried to get reservations for dinner but of course couldn’t be arranged on his actual birthday. My husband finished his meal before I even got mine more than once. This is not 5 star service.
Food poisoning- we became sick the…
Food poisoning- we became sick the second day of vacation and bed ridden for the remaining four days. The resort would not acknowledge and requested we submit a stool sample that we would not receive the results. Upon check out we were greeted by the manager who said all the correct corporate responses as reading from a script while we were handed the bill for the medicine we had to buy from the gift shop. We have contacted them several times with no response on a refund for the days we were sick. The only response we receive is on a public platform that everyone can see. THINK twice before you plan your visit to a Sandals resort.
The Sandals app isn’t working
The Sandals app isn’t working. I can’t load hotel details. Clearly a problem with the app that has been an issue for weeks .
Noisiest pool and beach ever
Noisiest pool and beach ever - more like an 18-30 holiday than the luxury/peaceful promised. Discover music, strimmers (10 yds away in the middle of the day) and surly service - very little engagement. All staff looked fed up and asbif customers were an irritation
