Urgent: Immediate Review Required for Critical Colorectal Case

I am writing this letter with a broken heart from the NHS so that the people of the United Kingdom know what is really happening, and that no one is defending me.

I am writing this letter to raise serious concern regarding the prolonged delay in the management of my colorectal condition and to urgently request an expedited review of my case. I am writing this letter with profound distress and disbelief regarding the handling of my case. I am truly shocked and deeply saddened that in a developed country such as the United Kingdom, particularly in its capital London, the NHS allows patients with severe, chronic, and complex medical conditions to wait for such long periods.

I come from a fully medical family from one of the best countries in the world, with pride and honor from Iran, and I am fully aware of hospital processes, regulations, and the demanding workloads of your respected staff. I greatly appreciate their efforts. Nevertheless, I am utterly astonished and dismayed that despite multiple serious and long-standing medical problems, I am still expected to wait for a routine surgical appointment.

My medical history over the past several years includes severe chronic and worsening conditions that remain inadequately diagnosed or managed. The NHS has been unable to provide effective nutrition, probiotics, vitamins, or treatment. These include: chronic IBS, recurrent rectal bleeding, fissures, hemorrhoids with stool tests showing blood up to 200, iron-deficiency anemia, severe constipation, chronic gastritis, multiple small kidney stones (2–3 mm), liver cysts, a benign antral submucosal lesion resembling pancreatic tissue, and long-term pancreatic and biliary issues. Despite multiple medications and interventions, my symptoms continue to worsen. Must I reach the most severe stage before these conditions are treated? I have bowel movements only twice a week, and I experience severe psychological fear for the future due to the slow NHS response and the progressive worsening of my stomach, pancreas, and liver cysts.

I am astonished that after years of suffering, I am still on a waiting list with no fixed date for surgery. Is over two years of waiting not enough? Must I reach a life-threatening stage to be prioritized? From day one, I personally requested surgery, but the NHS initially refused. Now, after several years, you are responding to my initial request. I have endured these problems in silence, but you expect me to continue suffering severe rectal bleeding and chronic abdominal pain while waiting in a long queue. This prolonged delay is medically unacceptable and psychologically devastating.

This situation has completely overwhelmed my nervous system. Past traumas, especially those from the Iran-Iraq war coinciding with my birth, have resurfaced with full intensity. Beyond anxiety, a sense of emptiness and paralysis has taken over me. My mind is consumed by uncontrollable thoughts about the “whys” of existence and absolute meaninglessness. I feel completely detached from the present, trapped between a ruined past and a bleak future.

The constant ticking and noise in my ears feels like a countdown to an explosion. Auditory flashbacks of bombings from my childhood are vividly present, erasing the boundary between reality and memory. Any loud sound shocks my body. I wake up terrified at night, and even watching TV or normal images causes extreme psychological stress. This pressure is continuous 24/7, preventing me from performing even the smallest tasks. I feel my spirit disintegrating and trapped in an absolute psychological dead-end.

With utmost respect, I urgently request immediate prioritization and intervention. The severity of my physical and psychological condition can no longer be deferred to routine scheduling. Every day that passes exacerbates my suffering. I sincerely ask you to acknowledge the seriousness of my situation and provide timely and appropriate care.

I have been struggling with multiple hemorrhoid problems for several years, yet for each minor procedure, they place me on the waiting list for several months. I have repeatedly protested, and even my GP has told them this could be dangerous in the future. However, this system from 1947 remains outdated. They do not even read emails, constantly claim they are too busy, and I have observed repeated mistakes in appointment scheduling and many other issues.

I have sent them photos of my bleeding, yet they remain completely indifferent, as if a doctor must personally tell them that I will die next year for them to even attempt to save my life.

Time wasters

The nurse doing the blood tests is alright, it use to be after the blood test straight to see the doctor to reschedule.
Now is one que for the blood test and another for the doctor which take ages.
I'm spending £10-£15 just for parking to wait for the doctor.
Really inefficient clinic.

This hospital is terrible and the sense…

This hospital is terrible and the sense of responsibility is non existent. When we go to hospital it’s for personal things and I was humiliated and degraded, denied essential treatment and when I made a complaint they refused to consider my complaint AND THEN I WAS THREATENED BY HEAD OF SECURITY PAUL PHILIPS FOR MAKING THE COMPLAINT!!!!

Barnet general is consistently poor

Barnet general is consistently poor. Haven’t been here in a long time and no improvements sadly. Waits in A&E are insane. Lots of nurses standing around doing very little. No sign of any doctors. Go elsewhere if you can. Toilets no soap, water dispenser empty

Wonderful ambulance paramedic team, and staff at A&E

A friend at a party we were holding collapsed. I called an ambulance who were with us in 20 minutes. The Paramedics, were kind, thorough and efficient. They took control of the situation, were reassuring and checked the lady out. The next day she was a given a complete check at A&E, again the staff were sympathetic , friendly, and thorough. We have nothing but praise for the RFH team.

The NHS system failed my mother

I am writing this review following the death of my mother and my experience with Barnet Hospital.

My mother was taken to A&E after calling an ambulance as she was vomiting and had diarrhoea. Despite this, she was discharged after only two days and referred to the mental health team.

I was later told by a member of staff over the phone, when going through a timeline of events, that my mother was not managing to stomach her medication. Given her condition at the time, I do not believe she should have been discharged.

Sadly, my mother passed away shortly after leaving hospital.

What has been particularly distressing is that it has taken months to obtain a written timeline of events, and when it was finally provided, it did not include the information I was told verbally about her struggling to take her tablets. This inconsistency has been extremely upsetting and has left me feeling that important details were omitted.

Families deserve transparency, accurate documentation, and reassurance that vulnerable patients are not discharged prematurely. Sadly, this was not my experience.

The wait is always long but worth it

The wait is always long. But my attending doctor Paolo was so kind and helpful. He was super busy but still made sure the nurses administered my medicine on time. He was very understanding of my situation and advised me appropriately. Very satisfied with the service i got.

Royal Free - Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit

Royal Free – Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit – Five Stars

After being discharged from hospital following a severe heart attack, I was placed under the care of the Royal Free Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit. Their programme includes a weekly gym session over eight weeks, designed to help former patients regain strength and confidence. It worked brilliantly for me — I’m now fitter than I’ve been in years.

A huge thank you to Sara, Andy, Mary, Marian, and the entire team for their dedication, encouragement, and inspiration. Your hard work truly makes a difference.

Kind, attentive superb service recd.

My husband was taken in by ambulance yesterday early evening, and the service he received was tip top. They were attentive, kind, and acted fast. His doctor was superb, his nurses got the cannula in even though very dehydrated. Open pending doors for us to exit in wheelchair. Could not have asked for better service! Thank you so much!

My experience at Barnet Hospital’s…


My experience at Barnet Hospital’s Gynaecology / Early Pregnancy Unit in September 2025 was deeply traumatic and life-changing.

I attended for an early pregnancy scan. At the start of the scan, my baby’s heartbeat was present. During the transvaginal scan, the sonographer applied repeated and very strong pressure to my right ovary area to examine a cyst, which caused me severe pain.

Immediately after the scan, I developed extreme pain and heavy bleeding with clots. Within less than 48 hours, I returned to hospital and was told that my pregnancy had failed.

On the second scan, a subchorionic hematoma was found, which was not present on the first scan, and the ovarian diagnosis had also changed. The sudden deterioration, the physical pain, and the way everything was handled left me traumatised.

I later made a formal complaint. While the hospital denied responsibility, they did admit that my experience did not meet the standards of compassion and communication they should provide.

Regardless of their internal conclusions, as a patient and a mother, I was left with physical injury, the loss of my baby, and long-lasting emotional pain.

No parent should go through this. I am sharing this so other women are aware and so this hospital reflects seriously on how patients in vulnerable situations are treated.

Whilst I can appreciate that hospitals…

Whilst I can appreciate that hospitals are busy at this time of year and all the problems staff are facing, someone has to be responsible for the shambles that's now A+E. I arrived and saw the reception area practically empty and was very impressed. Told to wait in a separate area also almost empty. After 2 hours I'm told I should be in SDEC (after asking what's the plan as no bloods yet). Arrived to SDEC to see a room full of about 40 patients from A+E some there since 11am waiting on treatment plan and outcomes. It's like a holding cell but with a television. Sign says 3 hour wait. Since arrival to SDEC (over 2 hours) no bloods done, not even called and told no doctor yet assigned. So I'm not sure this is a good idea long term (I hope it isn't) I'd not like to be in this room on a hot summer's day. The chairs are okay enough but that room is definitely not for the ill. Everyone together some coughing, some vomitting etc high risk of catching something else while you wait. However staff are nice when you can get to talk to them.

Waiting time 3+ hours

Waiting time 3 hours, you are sat for nearly 5 and people coming later than you are taken straight away, because YOU DON'T KNOW THE REASON. You are told being 4-5th person, at the end the number triples because the fact that you have swolen post operation wounds doesn't matter!

Killers of elderly...controlling over…

Barnet Hospital are Killers of elderly...controlling over zealous staff bullying vulnerable and neglecting to clean urine soaked skin just spraying on top of bed sores. Don't want constructive criticism either accusing one of being rude. Shocking photographic evidence exposing their neglect in one area and over the top in another. Elderly too weak to protest then dispose of them to nursing homes or body bags...

Recently my husband became very Ill at home.
He is in his 80s
Had to call the Ambulance and was so pleased to see them arrive pretty quickly.
They did an amazing care initially at home and were so kind and caring.
He was taken to emergency room atBarnet Hospital A&E.
On arrival Doctor and nurses did an amazing job.
Was relieved to see him responding to the treatment given. Big thanks for the treatment and care

At Barnet A and E for 9 hours

At Barnet A and E for 9 hours and counting. My husband came in an ambulance with chest pains. ECG ok so sent to ordinary an and e for bloods. One done quickly and results back- needed to do a second test. Done at 11.15pm. I have had to leave him there still in pain to get home to get my teens to school. After a 6 hour wait for the second test result and asking at the desk to check that it hadn’t been missed- a different receptionist has just told my husband they have been missed and he is now chasing them. Hate knocking NHS staff but that was incompetence on the part of several staff and was very unpleasant. Have had to leave him there to find out if he has a heart problem in his own.

I attended Endoscopy at Chase farm …

I attended Endoscopy at Chase farm today.
I was very impressed nice bight modern unit.I had my own room tocwaig in with Toilet.
The staff were all lovely friendly informative made me feel very relaxed.
The best NHS experience in a long time.!

Poor management at this hospital

Poor management of this hospital, particularly the nursing staff on ward 7 North are poorly trained, in my case the ward sister made a decision without theatre staff authorisation that led to my surgery being cancelled. Senior surgical staff/consultants attitude is rude and uncaring. Very un happy with this hospital and lack of treatment. What a total waste of resources and patients time.
