Where it all started. Rough Trade was founded by Geoff Travis in 1976 as a London record shop and began releasing as an independent label in 1978. In 1982, the retail outlet broke with the A&R and distribution divisions and became an independent entity, as it remains today. In 1982 Rough Trade West relocated from its original site on Kensington Park Road to nearby Talbot Road. Rough Trade Nealâs Yard opened in 1988 and closed its doors in 2007, ahead of the opening of a new flagship store, Rough Trade East, which opened in 2007 in Brick Lane. Rough Trade NYC opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2013 and relocated to Rockefeller Center, Manhattan in 2021. Rough Trade Nottingham opened in 2014. Rough Trade Bristol opened in 2017. We host live shows, sell records, merchandise, hardware, beer and coffee. Come say hello!

Two separate orders
Two separate orders.
First order was a limited/numbered 7 inch single. Two weeks after it released, nothing had arrived, no notification or anything. I called up and was told it would be checked. A week or so later still nothing so I called back to be told it was out of stock, disappointing but what can you do. Staff on the phone were lovely.
Second order was perfect, quick delivery and no issues at all.
Usually I would give Rough Trade a much higher score overall but my recent experience of the 7â single has knocked it down.
I will still use Rough Trade and I hope this is a one off experience as I have only had this happen one other time in the years of collecting records.

Well packaged and quick delivery
I ordered the rough trade 50 Bjork debut re-release. Was well packaged. Really quick delivery and the record itself is a thing of beauty.
Listening to it has invoked memories of my teens. Am very pleased with my overall experience of ordering

A very reliable store, loved them when in London and wish they had shop in Dundee. If in stock records arrive in 48hrs fantastic. If pre-orders these are well communicated, so no complaints. If you mail them again they reply fast so a very professional outfit they are. A Top Record store they are.

A really great edition of Nevermind
A really great edition of Nevermind. Looks like a recut of a Bernie Grundman mastered version. Great service, good tracking, quick delivery. Nothing to speak negatively about. Good to have exclusive Rough trade 50 notes with it. Looks good, sounds good, well pressed.

Amazing Record Store!
Whenever Iâm looking to add a vinyl record to my collection, Rough Trade is the first place I look. The stock is always great, and I have never had any issues. Records are always packed very well, with no warping, creases on the jacket, or anything else. Often Rough Trade also provides their own outer sleeve for the record, which is always nice! Prices are often lower than any other record store as well, so I overall couldnât recommend more.
