Very attentive service. Food was delicious although the sides were little pricey.
Atmosphere wasn't too bad but do have to shout at eachother to have a proper conversation if it's super busy or a large table near by.
First thing me visitor and not sure I would returned purely because we couldn't hear eachother.

The food was excellent, very tasty and good value, however the service was really very poor (with the exception of the male server who was soooo much better than the blonde haired lady server). We had a booked reservation, and were taken to our table, however despite the restaurant not being busy (Tuesday lunchtime), we had to ask for a menu when it was clear that after 10 minutes sitting there, we were not going to be offered one. Everything from ordering food & drink to not being asked how our food was was painful, and certainly not deserving of the mandatory 12.5% service charge on the bill. It was interesting that as we were finishing our meal, the manager/owner turned up, and the female member of staff suddenly took an interest in getting us our bill. Disappointing that with a great restaurant and tasty, good value food, that one or two waiting staff should let the side down.

Started off great waiter, then we received 2 tiny bits of bread, they asked if we wanted more bread so yes please. The prawn starter was £14 and I was given 3 prawns!!!! We ordered rump lamb £32 was 2 small pieces! I asked for coffee never received as they forgot. Told was our anniversary not even a mention. When we looked at bill was charged 50 p for extra bread!!!!!!! We actually left hungry. Really not worth the money it came too and waitress didn’t care was no coffee like it was it’s ok I’ve taken off bill! Errr not the point. My advice have local fish and chips, cheaper and you feel full up

it was very, very good. our second visit a year later it was alright. our third,and probably our last visit if it doesnt improve, was very,very average.cold atmosphere almost as if the customer was third on list of importance. The bar couldn’t do a gin and tonic with lime (no lime). The restaurant couldn’t do anything even a simple coffee with cream (no cream). No longer ‘top notch’ imho but still pricing as if it were.

So here's my review of Folkstone’s Michellin Star restaurant Rock Salt.
I think dining should be an experience , good food, a welcoming atmosphere friendly staff. This was not that. To give credit where credits due the food was excellent it's the ambience that wasn't . Straight away upon entering the vibe felt tense kinda like walking into a library when your having a loud conversation . I immediately noticed all the staff seemed to be more interested in taking care of the physical restaurant and its appearances then the patrons. And that kinda summed it up.. The chef who runs it is a Michellin star chef who studied under Gordon Ramsey and you can feel it... The attitude and arrogance is literally dripping from the walls.. It's seemed to me that it was Chef first ,food second, restaurant third and patrons last. All the staff were timid, browbeaten and non engaging and to me it was an atmosphere of fear kinda of like " we must not upset chef" being the number one priority the staff had and the customers were way down on the list, it was not a welcoming atmosphere, kind of like what I imagine eating in a East German restaurant in the 1980s would have been more like. It was like food first, chef first, everything else second and too me this is horse s$%*, even as they delivered our food the waiter said enjoy your meal as he was walking away, like it was an after thought.
Like I said the food tasted excellent probably the best steak I ever tasted but food alone is not a dining experience and I found the unwelcoming and tense atmosphere uncomfortable and I couldn't wait to leave. We've eaten out every day this week and have had some excellent food a been made to feel very welcome at the Minnis Bay Bar and the Tyler's Kiln but I could not recommend Rock Salt as a dining experience to me it seemed set up to glorify the ego of the chef who seems to be one of those people who thinks food is more important than people.. No matter what way you look at it food is just food left alone or eaten either way it turns to sh***.And it was really pricey, £25 for a steak plus you had to pay £3 for every bit of vegetables you chose. Food in the grand scheme of things is important but not that important and in my opinion quality food plus an tense and uncomfortable environment and stressed out harried staff do not a quality dining experience make. Rock Salt I can't recommend you.
