First visit. Poor welcome from staff on arrival: we were a group of 4 and remained invisible to Le Patron and 3 waiters for quite a few minutes. Advised should have written in booking form that we wanted a shaded table in outside setting area and would have to sit in full sun if we wanted to sit outside. Location was beautuful, food delicious, though the mash was dry. Shouldn't have to ask for a bone plate in a fish restaurant but we had to. Finger bowls supplied, though. But it was the service above all that was unacceptable. Slow, inattentive and desultory, verging at times on the insolent. Please employ people who delight and take pride in waiting on the public! Back to the note I should have made on my booking form? My request for a candle or sparkler with his desert for my brother's birthday was completely ignored. The crowning moment of the whole sorry experience? Being called on my mobile by Le Patron, 3/4 of an hour into our meal, asking why we hadn't turned up!! An apology was not forthcoming but would certainly have been in order. Hope to go back one day and see that things have changed for the better.

Delicious food and wine, great service in a lovely setting.

Food was great, well cooked and presented. A pleasant place to sit and eat, views etc. attention to detail was a bit lacking, and these are just professional observations, we had to ask for condiments, front of house had no idea what I was talking about when I asked about the “ table d’hote “ menu, until I said “ set menu “ Ladies toilets were not clean. To be completely fair, I mentioned it discreetly to one of the staff and they said they would immediately check. My wife said something about the deserts, that I thought was spot on, if she wasn’t looking at it, her taste senses wouldn’t be able to identify it, a bit bland, both my tiramisu and my wife’s chocolate tart, visually great but a bit lacking in taste. Overall, fairly priced for the location and quality, with lovely staff. I would go again, but wouldn’t rave about it.

Took the wife here for her birthday as she eats fish and not meat. I had the set Sunday menu. All the food was excellent, plenty of it and beautifully cooked. Service was very good, attentive but not rushed. We are already planning our next visit with friends.

Very poor vegetarian choice overpriced waitress asked chef if I could have something from the bar menu he said no then she asked what I would like so I asked for some hallumi chef said no so ended up with chips if we weren’t in a large group I would have walked out this was our second visit and definitely our last ,chef obviously thinks he’s in the savoy not a Folkestone chippy ,also lipstick on our glass which waitress was very apologetic, and family member on crutches at first was told he couldn’t leave by the doors on the bridge as they had locked them , would rather have gone to Mac Donald’s, not good when you spent around £600 between us

First visit here. Had a wonderful three-course lunch, an excellent bottle of English rosé and a great experience. The staff were polite, friendly, professional and attentive.
Looking forward to my next visit there - one of the best meals I have had in a long time.

We stayed at the hotel and had breakfast and evening meal. Second time we have been to the Rocksalt. Food was first class as well as the hotel. Staff superb. We will be back again. An absolute must if you are coming to Folkestone or even near Folkestone. Excellent!

DREADFUL food and a complete rip off. Avoid at all costs!
We went with hopes for a good Birthday fish dinner.
Big disappointment, the first courses - Tasteless, old oysters, fish soup that didn't taste of fish and scallops that were dry, shrunken and smothered in a bad, burnt garlic and onion sauce. We thought they were frozen but were told they were fresh, when we asked to see one they had "just sold the last one". The prices are £££ - we expected more. After such a disastrous first course we decided to cut our losses and leave. The maitre d' was pleasant and tried hard......we felt for her. This restaurant is bad & sad.....

Our visit wasn't dreadful. The staff were friendly, restaurant clean as were the facilities. Good size disabled toilet. The staff were accommodating as I asked to be moved to another table as it was blowing a gale where they initially sat us. We ordered drinks and somehow they turned up wrong but it was rectified. We ordered our food and a waiter came to us with something else but it was for another table. We did get the food we ordered but the service was so incredibly slow. I like relaxed meals but this was too slow! I wasn't pleased with the service charge but could not be bothered to argue it. The cheeseboard, which was a plate, was not worth £15.50. Three miniscule pieces of cheese the size of a very small post-it-note that I could pick up from any cheese shop or supermarket. Stilton, cheddar and brie. Some very thin celery, a few grapes, biscuits and chutney. Not worth the money. I went outside and bought my pudding from the ice cream van - cheaper. I think it's overpriced. Four hour drive for us. Not sure we will return.

We stayed in their rooms so arrived in the restaurant around 17.00 and asked for a particular table which they were happy to accommodate. When we arrived at restaurant at 19.30 the table we wanted had been given to someone else. We were shown to a table next to a crying baby. So we guessed that the couple occupying our table had refused to sit next to the baby and had been given the table we asked for. I hate being managed in this way for convenience of the restaurant and not the customer. The manager was apologetic but said that it was not possible to reserve a table . Not withstanding this tables are allocated on reservation.
I choose the skate wing as a main course, what arrived was half a skate wing. The manager stated that the size was governed by weight but there was no mention of this on the menu, not that I saw. I know that Rocksalt is not a cheap venue but I like to feel that I have had value for money. All a very disappointing experience on our wedding anniversary and spoiled our celebration.

I had a reservation for my husbands birthday, secured with a £5 deposit. Unfortunately we were unable to attend due to a last minute family problem. Today, I notice a debit to my credit card of £60, which is apparently a cancellation charge. I understand that restaurants may feel the need to charge a cancellation fee, however £30 pp is rather steep in my opinion.

2nd time visiting and it was truly disappointing.
Service was shocking compromised of kids running round like headless chickens with no direction. Zero enthusiasm, no answers to any questions, disorganized!

The food was basic and extortionate. Fish was dry.
100£ a head with kids and 1 bottle of wine- let’s remember we are in Folkestone and not London! Service charge of 70£. Reluctantly paid it but never again!

Was taken there by my family to celebrate my 75th birthday. Most disappointing, service poor, wrong dishes served and vastly overpriced (£5,50 for a small bowl of six new potatoes). Waited ages between courses with little or no attention from the floor staff. My two stars were given for the view.

We have been to the Rock Salt many times over the last five years and have always enjoyed the food and service. Sadly, today’s experience for my mother-in law’s birthday was unacceptable. Firstly we noticed no table water, secondly our bread dishes were being removed before we had be given any bread. The one small piece of bread was not worth the bother. We waited 45 minutes for our starter of Garlic and Chilly Prawns and fish soup. The finger wash bowels came out after the starter tut tut!! However the food tasted good. We waited and waited, see other patrons get their dinners who had come into the restaurant after us. So we asked the lady manager who was very dismissive to my 85 year old mother but low and behold our dinner did arrive. Roast dinner x 3, skate and mussels. Mussels were chewy, skate burnt on one side and dry, roast dinner one carrot cut in half, burnt cabbage, cold yorkshire pud and Im sure aunt bessie potatoes. We had to ask for gravy only to be told we might have some. So we did what everyone doesn’t want to do and complained to the floor manager (blonde lady with attitude). Very curt, face not bothered, unapologetic and rude. To add insult to injury they brought out a tiny scoop of ice cream with Happy Birthday written on the plate all a bit to late in the day I’m afraid. In my opinion the staff need to concentrate on the patrons, maybe the waiting staff should have there own tables in order to give the customer that special experience. All the waiting staff look scared and from what I see today the two head managers need to step up and perhaps give some of their staff training in how to communicate. Outcome they didn’t charge us for our main meal… that is there get out clause and doesn’t make it right. Rant over I clearly won’t be going back!

Fabulous location overlooking Folkestone harbour, however we booked 5 days ago for the 3 course lunch menu for £30, which was confirmed by email in our booking, to be told that they were no longer doing it when we were seated at our table at 12.45. Only a la carte was being served with mains in the region of £30. Very disappointing. I had also written that it was my aunt’s 99th birthday when I booked, but there was nothing offered by Rocksalt to indicate they had read this information. We also waited a long time for our order to be taken, and a long time for our meals to arrive. Disappointing all round.

Roast beef dinner consisted of two small slices,peculiar tasting Yorkshire pudding,inpenetrable roast potatoes ,a third of a carrot and a huge serving of ubiquitous hispi cabbage .
Five meals ordered but only three turned up ( which turned out to be another table's order!)so we had to wait for the other meals to be cooked or rudely eat before it got cold.
Despite making the staff aware no apology was made although when we paid it was pointed out that we didnot have to pay the service charge which we did reluctantly so as not spoil the birthday meal any more thsn it had already.Coffee was bitter too!

Very nice restaurant, getting a seat outside overlooking the water. Staff are very polite apart from the manager who came over a little curt, maybe he doesn’t like children?. Food was very nice but so overpriced, £28 for a steak only and you need to pay £5.50 extra for a handful of chips and an extra £5.50 for salad or vegetables, same for the fish. Very slow service, we were told it could be up to 25 minutes, over one hour later food arrived. Very disappointed as a fine dining restaurant it needs to improve things in my opinion to justify such high prices.

Very attentive service. Food was delicious although the sides were little pricey.
Atmosphere wasn't too bad but do have to shout at eachother to have a proper conversation if it's super busy or a large table near by.
First thing me visitor and not sure I would returned purely because we couldn't hear eachother.

The food was excellent, very tasty and good value, however the service was really very poor (with the exception of the male server who was soooo much better than the blonde haired lady server). We had a booked reservation, and were taken to our table, however despite the restaurant not being busy (Tuesday lunchtime), we had to ask for a menu when it was clear that after 10 minutes sitting there, we were not going to be offered one. Everything from ordering food & drink to not being asked how our food was was painful, and certainly not deserving of the mandatory 12.5% service charge on the bill. It was interesting that as we were finishing our meal, the manager/owner turned up, and the female member of staff suddenly took an interest in getting us our bill. Disappointing that with a great restaurant and tasty, good value food, that one or two waiting staff should let the side down.
