I went to have my bike serviced. I wasn't happy with the service and followed up with owner, who responded brilliantly. It's hard to run a small business -- well done, Stephen, for tackling problems head on.

Review of the grand arcade store

Avoid: Unsafe Bikes, Shady Terms, Rude Staff, More expensive than competitors

Unsafe bikes: Both rentals were poorly maintained and borderline dangerous on the road.

Unclear T&Cs: A “week” now means six days. Previously, returns were based on 24-hour periods - suddenly (and without any warning at pick up) it is now by close of business on day six, no matter when you started your rental.

Aggressive service: A staff member claiming to be the manager got defensive when I raised safety concerns and refused to inspect the bikes, and became hostile when questioned on the new terms.

Overpriced: £60 per week—twice the price of a local competitor offering better bikes and service (personal experience).

We were visiting Thetford Forest with my daughters bike and her pedal came off! We took it into Primo Cycles to see if they could help reattach the pedal. The gentlemen could not help enough!! He was absolutely brilliant. Considering it was our own bike and not a bike we had hired from them, he was more than happy to reattach the pedal, he even greased the chain, tightened the handlebars & raised the seat!! Thank you so much! Would highly recommend!

These guys went above and beyond for me and my 6 month old! My pushchair wheel broke on the way to a wedding dress fitting! I was helped with temporary fix and advised to go to the cycle path under the grand arcade! Alex kindly replaced the bolt and even tightened the other wheels! Cannot thank you enough!!

Bike in stock online that I could't get locally, great service, quick delivery and very happy with my new ride.

Bike brought in for a repair part, a puncture(tubeless) and a service. They couldn't get the spare part for over a month (I ordered from the US). They forgot about the service - moved my bike to another store (Grand Arcade). The tyre still has slow puncture (now slower admittedly )- there was no evidence of a service- the chain wasn't even lubricated. Had to tune the gears myself- as they were much worse than before . Claimed to have updated the Bosch motor software (the bike has a TQ motor). Charged me £120- FOR NOTHING. Complained and no reply. DON'T GO NEAR THE Grand Arcade branch.

Best cycle shop in Cambridge (I've been to enough of them to judge at this point)

- Polite, friendly and helpful staff
- Knowledgeable
- Quick turnaround, no hesitation to get stuck in and help fix my problem

For context, I had 3 bolts missing from my chain ring. I visited 5 shops yesterday including Cycle King (don't waste your time going there), all of which either didn't have the parts I needed, couldn't be asked to look for the parts (even though they said they have them in stock) or charged a lot for the parts inaddition to not having any interest in also attaching them.

It felt like I was a burden to three out if the five shops owners yesterday, where as the guys at Primo were great.

When I need my bike serviced, or need a new part or accessory, I'll be going there and would urge anyone else to do the same.

This review is for the store located near the car park entrance at the back of the Grand Arcade. Although with the service I received I'd be happy to also go to the other store in Cambridge :)

I've used both primo shops in Cambridge for bike services/fixing mechanicals/bike fits and have found all the staff to be really helpful with sorting out problems and giving any advice needed. Really quick turnarounds with jobs done too. Would definitely recommend!

Took my bike in for a service as it was absolutely hanging. Unexpected issues were explained clearly and promptly to me over the phone giving me the options and costs of different routes forward. More shops should be like this - no BS, straight advice, quick turnaround and a fair price for the work done. Will use again.

If I could award this bike store negative stars, I would. My experience at this bike store was nothing short of horrifying. I purchased a helmet for £55, a price that would make anyone's head spin just as mine did when I realized I was being conned. You can find the exact same helmet online for a mere £30!
They claim to offer a 28-day free return policy, but when I attempted to return the overpriced helmet within 10 minutes, they conveniently had an excuse at the ready. Apparently, this helmet, which they happily sold to me at an inflated price, was not included in their policy. The audacity of this store to blatantly disregard their own policy is appalling.
Additionally, most of their other products come with a 30%-50% higher price tag compared to online retailers or other stores. All of their positive reviews appear suspiciously similar, and there are others who have encountered situations similar to mine.

Can't rate these guys highly enough. Not pushy at all, and Ben (the fit guy) was happy to take time to explain various factors and educate me. Got a fit first and Ben recommended bikes to fit me based on that process, taking into account my bad back. Picked up my Domane from them last week and cycling is now a completely different (enjoyable!) experience! Thanks Primo!

Excellent bike set up and servicing. For the last couple of years I have taken my tri & racing bikes to Primo and thanks to their knowledge and attention to detail my bike set up and servicing was so good that I have not had any discomfort or problems with the bikes whether a leisurely cycle on weekend or during the completion of two iron men. I would certainly recommend Primo to anyone looking to ride comfortably whether for leisure or racing event and safe in the knowledge that their bike will not have mechanical issues
