Awful experience! Do not use !

I renewed my insurance with this company, studiedly never checking the reviews, only been with them a few weeks and regret my decision. They contacted me to check my mileage, I told them I was happy with what I had put as I don’t use the car like I used to. Without my consent they’ve upped my mileage and charged with a admin fee. Definitely will not renew or use them again. DISGUSTING SERVICE! Wouldn’t give 1 star !

People's Choice decided to try and automatically renew my car insurance when I had previously told them not to. I rang them today to inform them that I had found a MUCH better deal elsewhere and that I would like to cancel the automiatc renew placed on my car insurance. I spoke to a man who was very unpleasant down the phone asking "why would I get car insurance with peoples choice in the first place if I wasn't going to renew" and then proceeded to lecture me about this and peoples choice. He then tried to continue to automatically renew my policy until I informed him again that I did not wish for this. I was then placed on hold and cut off after a few minutes. Worst customer service- do not use them!

Note, I have not used them for a claim and hope I never do. However, I got stitched an extra £72 because I made a small error on the application and asked to change it immediately after taking the policy out. I'm sure its in the small print, but totally unjustified and unrealistic. I will not be using ever again.

thieves and swindlers. never again. after 1.5 months they canceled my car insurance and charged me some extra fees. worst in life. liars. more trouble

I would have gave it 0 star if I could I cancelled my insurance 3 days before the commencement date due to the reviews this company have and I was charged a cancellation fee stay away from this company it's a ripoff I would update my review after I put a complaint if they pay me back my full deposit

I was with them 2 years two days before renewal my new policy i get letter to contact then as car been insured twice by me and somone else who i dont know .. ..... i called then to make sure all is fine and i said i want to renew my policy....
I get new renewal documents 20.04.2022 and they say " thank you for renewal yours policy......
2 days later they cancelled my policy without any reason ...when i called them i spent hours on phone ....
They say car been insured twice by somoone else ..... i asked why they cancelled my renewal policy and not the other person ?
they said because pffff

They sent me letter few days later it was done on my request ..... i asked them to lisent the phone conversetion when i said i want to cancelled
( on the phone i said 3 times i want to renewal my policy).....they not responded they all the time said something else .

Im on the way to finishe my Hgv licence and i was stopped by police without insured car as the cancelled my policy ...... they mess up my life

Who will take responsibility about points on my licence i spent thousands to get hgv licence

I was keep calling and calling and they said they must to see my LOG BOOK if i am the owner its fair enough but before aske me to see my log book they cancelled my policy !!!!!! ( they did not ask about log book 2 years ) ...liers

I'm a named driver on my partner's policy. Used a comparison site to get quotes and selected People's Choice. Was then taken through to their own site to complete the process, paid in full (remember this fact) and that should be the end of it....

Checked online policy details two days later and there was a message on the account saying that a 'payment was required'. Turns out that the price paid in full two days earlier (and taken from bank account) had now changed and gone up by over 10% of the policy price. So there is either a serious error in their systems or they are trying to scam people. Contacted them on the phone (with great difficulty) and took about 40 minutes to get through. The problem was eventually solved although they made it sound like we had tried to somehow scam them! No apology - but they accepted that no further payment would be required. Good job too as we would have cancelled immediately.

This is possibly the worst ever sign up experience I have had with a car insurance company. When you sign up via their own web site and pay the amount in full, there is no way that you can pay anything other than the agreed price. People's Choice are behaving like a supermarket that goes to your home after you've done your shopping and tries to charge you more for what you bought two days ago. An absolute disgrace. I will be making a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman and the comparions site to get them booted off. By the way this is Hastings Direct or whatever they are known as. I'll never use them again and would advise others to avoid.

"PEOPLES CHOICE" AKA "HASTINGS DIRECT" ARE AN ABSOLUTELY APPALING COMPANY AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO TRADE THE WAY THEY TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS..... PLEASE STAY WELL CLEAR OF THESE INSURERES IF YOU HAVE ANY SENSE. THEY MAY BE CHEAP ON THEIR QUOTES BUT THE PAIN THEY CAUSE PEOPLE REALLY IS NOT WORTH SAVING YOURSELF A FEW QUID!
I was involved in a non fault accident whilst being insured under Peoples Choice (aka Hastings Direct) and they were shockingly and unbelievably dreadful at fighting the case on my behalf.
You would assume it would have been easy for Hastings/Peoples Choice seeing as as old lady hit my car when I was NOT even in it and admitted liability straight away as there were 3 independent witness's, but this was not the case.

In the end I had to contact solicitor's directly to deal with the matter as Peoples Choice/Hastings Direct added an extra £450 to my renewal price because of the 'open case' on my file due to this accident that had not been dealt with. Every insurance company that I tried to move to also wanted a much higher premium because of Peoples Choice/Hastings Direct incompetency and my open case which was showing on the national insurance data base as a case against me.
You will never get through to anyone when you ring them.
You will constantly be promised call backs that never arrive.
You will be passed around loads of automated systems and different departments to no avail.
You will be lied to as in my case and told many different things.
The company treat their customers appallingly and although you may get a cheaper original quote from them just to get you on board, God help you if you ever need to make a claim from these people.

I will NEVER go near Hastings Direct or Peoples Choice (or any other of the companies that Hastings use a different name to trade under) as long as I live!

I have since moved to a fantastic insurer "The AA", who I have been with them in the past and wished I hadn't have chosen a cheaper quote at renewal and jumped ship on.
I have also reported Peoples Choice/Hastings to the Financial Ombudsmen Service to help protect others.

I tried moving to the cheapest prices from compare the market…but the hoops Hastings / Peoples Choice we’re putting in way and poor comms skills made me realise if this is what it’s like setting up policy what would it be like to make a claim (13 years no claims btw!) so I decided to go back to my original insurer “Quote me Happy” who made it easy great communication and I feel safe again!

Cheap is not always the best ! Steer clear .

I cancelled within cooling off period and they tried to make me pay £20!!! …. The only decent thing they did was waive that when I requested that they raise a formal complaint !

Every negative review I have read is accurate.

After receiving a quote through confused.com, People’s Choice website would not let us continue with our insurance quote. I then called and spent an hour on the call for them to tell me they could not process our policy unless we paid in full. I was made to go through the full application over the phone, no details were changed from the quote we received through confused.com. They had no explanation why they couldn’t provide a quote. Seems like a disappointment of a company.

I’d definitely avoid this company along with their parent company Hasting Direct. Baring in mind People’s Choice previously went bankrupt. Definitely avoid.

On 29th January I accepted a quote with first choice for my car insurance policy to start on 18th Feb, and payed my first months payment up front. However a few days later my current insurers ended up quoting me even cheaper. I rang First Choice on 4th Feb to cancel and to get my money back (I was well within the first 14 days cooling off period) however they only gave me part payment back! They kept £20 even though my policy had never even been incepted by them!! Rip off.

Years ago I had a terrible experience with Hastings and decided not to ever deal with them again (problems with auto renewal). This year when due renewal cheaper quote from Hastings Premier and direct. I skipped those two on the comparison site, preferring to pay more to avoid their bad service. Went with 'People's choice' before realising its Hastings under a pseudonym. Cancelled policy 12 hours after setting it up (for it to start next month). They charge me £20!!! No cooling off period. £20 to fo what??? Dont deal with these people. Terrible company.

My policy was changed without notification and charges increased without prior notice. Response team for breakdowns and claims not helpful at all. Very disappointed with the customer service. DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!!

I’ve been with this company a few years now. Even the renewal is cheaper than other quotes. I had no problems with them so wanted to balance up the reviews. But I haven’t made a claim so this might be what’s causing bad reviews!

Been with them for two years, every year at renewal they put the cost up, you have to call to cancel and the operator takes an age to do a simple task. Then they miraculously come back with a cheaper quote. First time I took it but this time tired of the did rigmarole I explained I just wanted to cancel and still I had to wait ages for her"computer" to load up and then what do you know she came back with a lower quote. However I explained to her I still wished to cancel as originally stated and after she had confirmed the cancellation and was still banking on I hung up. I'm not s ride person but 25 minutes to cancel a policy because they offer no other method than a phone call should be taken up by the FCA

i took the policy with them as they came £100 cheaper with online comparison site. and i was in hurry and didn't read there reviews. Absolutely awful people and company to deal with. they have charged me extra amount without any explanations. I replaced my car with the same value and they have charged me half the total premium. and if i cancel the policy i will get nothing. they keep you on hold absolutely ages and just transfering you with in the incompetent company from one person to another. awful avoid it at all cost rather pay £100 more to some decent company who wont rip you off and with decent customer services.

If you value your sanity choose a different insurance company tried to cancel auto renew was passed around to so many different people.. being put on hold about 10 times, they are probably all in the same office the only people who would choose this company are insane people
