As Europe’s largest conservation charity, we look after nature, beauty and history for everyone to enjoy. We do it with the help of millions of members, volunteers, staff and donors. Without this, we couldn’t care for the miles of coastline, woodlands, countryside and the hundreds of historic buildings, gardens and precious collections we protect. Your support keeps nature and history flourishing. You help us care for: - More than 780 miles of coastline - More than 250,000 hectares of land - More than 500 historic houses, castles, parks, and gardens - Nearly a million works of art In 1895, our founders, Octavia Hill, Robert Hunter and Hardwicke Rawnsley pledged to preserve our historic and natural places. Their aim was not only to save important sites, but to open them up for everyone to enjoy. They created the National Trust, and more than 125 years later, their mission is at the heart of everything we do. We protect and care for places so people and nature can thrive. Many millions share the belief that nature, beauty and history are for everyone. So we look after the nation’s coastline, historic sites, countryside and green spaces, ensuring everyone benefits. From wild and precious places to the world outside your window the National Trust offers access, enjoyment and a chance for everyone to help out. Nature and the historic environment are under threat. They’re essential to everyone, they enrich people’s lives and are part of the fabric of society and they urgently need more care. Our shared places stretch across the nation, from Lizard Point in Cornwall, to Lindisfarne in Northumberland and Florence Court in Northern Ireland. As well as looking after the places in our care, we work with communities and partners across the nations to protect nature, beauty and history in towns, cities, villages and countryside.

Rude volunteers
Attended Kingston Lacy today with my family, the lady letting people into the house was downright rude and the gentleman at the house exit was little better. £22 pp to be treated poorly is unacceptable, put a real dampener on the day.

NT lost membership card
I need to provide feedback on behalf of my daughter & her family's experience attending Greys Court NT location today, Easter Sunday.
They have a lot of stress in their lives & this was supposed to be a day out to alleviate some of this pressures of life.
They couldn't locate the NT membership card. They hunted high & low with toddler in tow who is going through regression, so nerves were frayed due to lack of sleep.
My question is, surely their membership could have be found on NT records just by going a search on their names to confirm they were paid up members?
The NT card is made of paper so looks just like any unassuming business card, nothing stand out, so easily lost amongst a chaotic young household.
On arrival at the venue, they found they didn't even need their card if only visiting the grounds & not the house...
Th NT website was not clear on this information & the day was almost a completely ruined experience.
They had no facility to PRINT anything to replace the missing card.
NT improve your website & get with the 2025 programme...use QR codes or the such so people can still enjoy the locations minus their physical membership cards. They can just show membership evidence on their phones?
It's disappointing..we always spend a small fortune when in the cafes & gift shops, so surely you could accommodate this simple ask that can help others?

Exist purely to rip people off
Tried to visit Shugborough today, after years and years of going there. Merely wanted to park and walk along the PUBLIC footpath, only to be told by a couple of patronising and rude volunteers that we'd have to pay twenty five pounds, to park in a field?! I've parked in London for less.
Their short sighted greed has ensured I won't be visiting or giving them another penny.
Their sole purpose seems to be to extract money from people under the guise of "preserving our heritage"

Visit to Gawthorpe Hall
We packed a picnic (as there is
No cafe) and drove for over an hour to get here . We planned a walk around the estate with our dog and a visit to the walled Garden and partarre.
Although advertised as open the hall was closed (April 11th) as were the toilets. Also the walled garden is not accessible any more. There are signs which state
residents only.’
The partarre garden is densely overgrown and litter is strewn around. In general the woodland area is poorly managed with one main path totally blocked. A very disappointing visit on a beautiful sunny day. If you are interested in horticulture and a country walk then this is a place to be avoided. Come on National Trust you can do better than this. The place is letting you down. The Shuttleworth family must be turning in their graves at the state of their once beautiful property.

Paying for parking at Compton Bay
Paying for parking at Compton Bay, Isle of Wight. A total nightmare. If you don’t have phone signal you’re stuffed. And when I managed to get enough signal to call the number on the notice board I was told I couldn’t pay via phone because my mobile number wasn’t registered but I couldn’t register it because I didn’t have any signal! Whatever happened to machine that accept coins and cards?
Two other people left complaining because they couldn’t pay for parking either.
Not good for the National Trust or the Isle of Wight ☹️

Hidden Charges.
First of all, I really like Hardwick Hall estate. I walk through there all the time and the staff are awesome.
The refreshment area is great too. Nice clean, secure and well serviced spot that you can sit and waste an afternoon in.
Now the bad. It is totally ok to charge £6 for parking, so long as I know there is a charge. It is utterly ridiculous to park up and walk into the refreshment area to be stopped by a couple of nice gentlemen and asked to pay per occupant of the car. There is no signage anywhere in the car park to tell you this is expected and also no signs I could see that the whole place shuts at 16.30. I winced at the £12 for three ice creams but that is expected, the car parking charge was not.
I think I will enjoy my expensive ice creams from somewhere else.
**AFTER THE FIRST REPLY FROM CHRIS ***
I write
"There is no signage anywhere in the car park to tell you this is expected"
And you reply
"We feel our signage is clear on both charges and opening hours"
Tell me where is this signage? I have walked through the car park and refreshment area over 150 times, not once have I seen a sign for £6 parking. To repeat myself, the car parking charge is fine. What is not fine is hiding the fact it is to be paid.
***AFTER THE SECOND REPLY FROM CHRIS ***
Your wrote:
"For clarity the £6 is not a car parking charge but the fee to enter our parklands which includes our café"
So if we want to walk up from Glapwell to get an ice cream, it will cost us £6 to get in to buy it?

I think that the National trust do a exceptional job under such stressful circumstances.
They can't get everything right, but on the whole they are getting most things that matter right.
Just a shame that 2 volunteers at Arlington court in North Devon were not as friendly as the majority we have come across over the years.

A great organisation ruined by the WOKE Left. Attitude is unacceptable and their dislike of actual Great British History is a disgrace!
I emailed the organisation about this and the response was basically “it’s what we want to do”.
Needs to be closed or these “I’m always right” spongers should be sacked!

Very disappointing
Visited Cotehele to see the Daffodils and very disappointed. Hardly any Daffodils around the grounds and the very small display inside the building was also disappointing. £51 entry for 3 adults and no concessions for OAPs is a huge amount to fork out. The annual membership is massive and only affordable to the rich. The cafe was also disappointing with only 2 sandwiches and no vegan choices. We had jacket potatoes which were very small with hardly any toppings and a feeble side salad. Also very expensive. An expensive and disappointing few hours.

We purchased membership for two of our great grandchildren at Durham park on 18th February but as yet we have not received anything, I have phoned twice and been told there is no record of the membership, I've emailed the receipt and also sent a photo of the receipt and the green form we were given when we paid, we have had absolutely no.feedback from National Trust despite someone on one of their Facebook pages trying to help me. I find this disgusting, I'm feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall

What has happened to national trust
What has happened to national trust. Tried to visit cardingmill valley, after driving miles, got turned away, carpark full, maybe if they hadn't closed the upper carpark we wouldn't of wasted hours travelling. Trying to visit anywhere over the festive period was impossible too. Membership is being cancelled and I would seriously advise anyone not to give them your money. I'm all for conservation but as members we get turned away, ripped off in the cafes and get absolutely no perks

Parking mayhem
Visited Wentworth castle on Sunday 2nd arrived 10.30 queued for 45 minutes had to ask to be told the car park was full at least 50 cars trying to turn around in a single track road . Surely a property this size should have an overflow car park ?

In December 2024 I order a NT gift…
In December 2024 I order a NT gift membership for my daughter and her partner. Temporary cards were emailed to me along with the promise to send the membership pack and actual cards shortly. By 1st March no cards had been received. I phoned NT to find out what was happening. I was irritated and remain concerned about what I was told:
1) I was told the issue was caused by me because I had only entered my incomplete postal address information! I objected because I think that is highly unlikely. I take care with my information, especially online.
2) I was told I had also entered only partial postal address information for my daughter! Again I think that is unlikely and certainly don’t believe I would have repeated the same type of error.
3) NT does have all my correct address information anyway, because I’m a member and it used my email address to tell me it was processing my gift application!
4) NT is legally required to have adequate, up to date and accurate personal information when processing but doesn’t appear to have done that. It must also have appropriate technical and management processes in place, and regularly test those, to ensure only lawful processing of personal data happens. It doesn’t appear to have done that either.
5) NT didn’t check or validate my information when processing or allowed it do become corrupted. Neither of which is acceptable.
Hopefully my daughter will receive her cards (oddly she has received other mail from NT) without further delay. I remain concerned however that personal data is not kept secure and is unnecessarily exposed to loss and corruption. NT please urgently review your systems and procedures.

This site lost my text twice
This site lost my text twice, they are not making it easy to leave feedback...
National Trust family membership was £83 in 2016, raised to £169 in Mar 2025 - way above official rate of inflation.
Do we get more services along with inflated prices? I don't think so. Properties only got older and dustier, cafe food is still mostly unhealthy and even more expensive, children playgrounds are not maintained in many places.. Blossoms are nice though - but there are other non NT parks around as well.
NT management want less visitors paying more to compensate for the loss of working families - good luck with that..

National trust polices in breech of the law
National trust polices state in many cases they are no fly zones even if they are not genuinely in a no fly zone. This is not accurate and should be corrected immediately they are misleading and in breach of the LAW!!
Trust should be prosecuted for not following the LAW to make matters worse they wanted to charge the photographer money to do it!
You are a shambles and should be ashamed of yourselves

Website not user-friendly re: cancelling auto renewals
I want to support the National Trust, but I also expect to be able to go onto their website and cancel an auto renewal without having to go through the hassle I encountered in trying to do so. I received a letter from them telling me they will automatically take payment from my account in March. This was a surprise because I thought I had already cancelled the auto renew; however, in the letter that arrived, the wording stated: 'If you need to make any changes to your membership or do not wish to renew, please call us before March 14.' Excellent that they at least notify members before taking payment (many companies don't), but to have to phone to cancel a direct debit, seems tedious and wholly unnecessary in this day and age when you should be able to cancel an auto renewal simply. I would have been happy to restart my membership at some point in the future, but having gone through this much hassle, I'm not inclined to do so. Having said this, the person I spoke to on the phone was efficient, well-informed and provided me with excellent customer service. All I have, though, is his word that it has been cancelled. I have made a detailed record of the time and date of the call, just in case...
