Worse restaurant experience in Mowgli Knutsford, not recommended at all. Unfriendly and unpolited staff, the manager has an arrogant mean girl behaviour that makes everything even more unpleasant. Won’t come back and don’t recommended, so many lovely restaurants to go in Knutsford, don’t waste your time and money on this one

Omg I’ve found my new favourite restaurant after nearly 50 years. So I came in for lunch as the prices looked reasonable but then I tasted the food, it was fantastic full of flavour and I didn’t realise it was an Indian restaurant. Great atmosphere and get in early as there is now a very long queue outside to get in. This is at Cheshire oaks .
No draft beer but they have bottled cobra.
Going to book for Monday night too!

I took my son to Mowgli’s in Cardiff with my daughters to celebrate his 21st birthday. I had never visited a Mowgli’s before, but decided to go having read some great reviews. Unfortunately, to say I was underwhelmed and disappointed is a vast understatement. The size of the dishes is ludicrously mean and miserly. A member of staff explained they are small because they are “like tapas”, but this seems to me to be disingenuous given the high price of each dish. My impression was that the waiters had been primed what to say.

My daughters and I ordered the street sharer meals. Naively, I believed the promise on the menu that we would receive a good selection of dishes and that this was “pot luck” on the day, determined by what the chef was cooking. It was in fact highly apparent that the chief ingredients of many of the dishes were as cheap as chips: potatoes, chickpeas and lentils. The dahl was mushy and dull. Each portion of rice amounted to no more than about three spoonfuls. The rotis were tiny, tasteless and dry; I could make better at home with supermarket chapati flour. Our ice-cream desserts literally consisted of one spoonful of ice-cream each. I couldn’t help but feel swindled.

The concept of Mowgli’s appears to be based upon the objective of greedily making as much profit as possible by spicing up the cheapest of ingredients and serving the most meagre of portion sizes. The ambient atmosphere is simply created by an abundance of fairy lights and ropes ridiculously hanging from above. Even the disposable serviettes are awful, their texture resembling cheap toilet paper - no better quality than those you would get in a roadside burger van. If I was the owner, I would be ashamed.

In short, the food is crazily overpriced and overhyped. The decor is silly and childish. In addition, you are automatically charged a service charge on top of the inflated bill, as well as a “voluntary” donation to charity. I am sure the owner must realise that most people would be too embarrassed to ask for these to be removed. Well, I’m not. I find this practice presumptuous and asked for them to be removed on principle, then left a tip of my own choosing. I refuse to be compelled to pay a tip of over £13 when the food and portion sizes are so unimpressive.

One pound to charity does not sound a lot, but I checked out the Mowgli charity accounts and personally felt that it was unclear as to what proportion of the charity’s funds is spent directly on charitable causes. This is something many people wish to know when deciding (for themselves) which charities to support. One thing about the accounts is, however, clear: taking £1 from every single customer who doesn’t object certainly adds up.

There’s a traditional Christian principle that you shouldn’t seek to make excessive profit from people, but instead treat them with fairness, honesty and decency. Sadly, I didn’t get the sense that this is a governing ethical principle at Mowgli’s on the basis of my family’s experience dining there.

Great food and a wonderful atmosphere.
We chose from the festive menu and had a roulette (random) selection. There was plenty of food and cooked to perfection.
We visited the Birmingham restaurant and the staff couldn't do enough for us and made us feel very welcome.
We'll definitely be going back again.

Had a really great night in Charlotte street at this beautifully decorated restaurant excellent food and exceptional service from Goutham and all the staff. Look forward to returning soon

Going to Mowgli Glasgow on 23/11 for a friends retirement, we have preordered from a very limited festive menu that had three options per course. I received an email today (21/11). That frankly sounds a ridiculous. Why on earth can’t a brigade of professionally trained chefs make a batch of brownies?

Hope you're looking forward to coming to see us on Saturday - we're looking forward to seeing you guys. However, we're experiencing supply issues with our brownies, and I just wanted to let you know ahead of time in case we're unable to fufil your order of them. As an alternative should they not be available, we're happy to substitute them for ice cream or sorbet, or a Gulab Jamun (sweet indian doughballs served warm with ice cream). If none of them are what you're keen for on the day, we can look at adding dishes to the meal or a drink on the house.
However, as I said this is just in case we don't have them available, we won't know till Saturday! But I just wanted to email ahead to avoid disappointment and to ensure your meal is smooth sailing.

What can I say - Four of us were there for the first time and we all raved about the food and the service. Kerys was very knowledgeable and a lovely person. Her customer service was second to none and she made our evening a night to remember. She was absolutely fabulous and significantly contributed to our positive experience. We will definitely go back and heartily recommend the restaurant!

Went for lunch and had the street food sharer menu. We couldn’t agree whether to have the meat or Vedg tiffin tins, so let them decide for us and received a very nice mix of both. Absolutely loved it - the food was amazing and the service great. We’ll be back

Brighton branch. Very disappointing! Service good but food awful, generic 'fries' with a a bit of chilli on top, overpriced. Lamb chops cremated, curry tasted soapy....all overpriced. Think you're paying for pretty fairy lights and swing seats. Don't bother, find a decent Indian restaurant instead.

Never had a bad meal here so consistently good but my last visit was even better than usual Really Enjoyed it! Try the chat bombs!!!!!!

Avoid wasting your money on the horrible food at this restaurant

Popped in for lunch… disappointed with the service and food. Sauces were soooo sweet and tiny portions…Should definitely concentrate on quantity of food and service instead of the outlay for the ridiculous amount of lights. We will never visit again and will inform our foodie group about our disappointment

Trying my first Mowgli street food at McartherGlen Bridgend. I am delighted at the fresh tasting and stunning flavours of the crispy Chichen and chicken wrap. This is food like I've never tasted before.

First time visiting Mowgli’s Bridgend and we were definitely pleased with the friendly service and great range of choices on the easy to read menu, which came accompanied with full allergen information and plenty of gluten free dishes.
Food was amazing and full of flavour with individual portions large enough to have a selection of dishes, I personally didn’t have room for dessert!
The restaurant itself was well presented, being clean and tidy with a lovely decor and plenty of lighting. The tables were adequately spaced out so there was no risk of bumping elbows with the patrons next door!
The desserts my family ordered looked delicious and every bite was eaten.

Prices were what we expected and inline with other local restaurants.

The restaurant boasted very clean toilet facilities as well as easy access for wheelchair users via the large main entrance doors.

Being located at Bridgend MacArthur Glen offers the bonus of plenty of free onsite parking.

Will be going back in the future and will absolutely recommend to friends, family and everyone else!

We thought we would try Mowgli, Cheshire Oaks. Loved the sticky chicken, but the house chicken was not up to par, lacked taste. The roti was OK along with the Basmati rice.

Our biggest gripe was the size of the portions, for the price. A good Indian take away serve larger portions at the same price.

Whilst not overwhelmed with the “visit” , I am then expected to donate to a charity, and pay service charge.

Increase the size of your portions!

Small portions, food nothing special tastes, precooked and then ovened /microwaved . Gets more expensive at every visit . Adding a 10% service charge is also rather cheeky. Won’t be going again

Very disappointed at the Water St Liverpool branch tonight.
The staff were lovely but the food wasn't.Had the chat bombs, chip butty, the lamb and rice and some thin bread.
All pretty bland and very small portions.
The chat bombs were ok but the chip butty was just potato in a small wrap with a bit of chutney. £7.00 for this.
The lamb was non existent,in a vinegary,cinnamon laden sauce, it looked like dog food, a bit of rice and thin bread.
Total lack of seasoning and luke warm.
Others in our group didn't fair better,£13.00 for 2 dry, scrag end thin lamb chops was shocking as was the so called butter chicken.
Go to your local Indian, not this place, it needs a major rethink.

Went to Mowgli in Bristol city centre. Upon arrival I was impressed by the look of the place, nice decor and beautiful lighting. I noticed that some of the seats were swings suspended by ropes from the ceiling so was pleased to be shown to a table with normal seating.
Upon placing the order I asked for poppadoms first ( as you would in an "Indian" restaurant ) to be told they don't do them???
Ever been to an Indian restaurant that doesn't serve poppadoms?
No, me neither. I later found out they didn't do naan breads either.
The waiter advised me to order "yogurt bombs" instead but they turned out to be bland and no substitute for poppadoms and a pickle tray.
The food was reasonable but somewhat lacking in flavour. I ordered a Goan fish curry but it wasn't a patch on my local Indian in Clifton. The portions were fairly small and I left still feeling slightly hungry.
There is an obligatory 10% service charge which I always resent. I always tip if I'm happy with the experience but I prefer to be the one to decide.
Also, what's with the pretentious new buzz phrase "street food"??

Group of 6 visited the Water Street restaurant in Liverpool. Food lovely, lots of choice. Able to take doggy bags home for what we couldn't eat. Staff friendly. Only one negative it was very noisy, but like a school canteen but this is to be expected.
