Been staying at By George for over seven years now. Never a bad experience, great customer service from Meredith.
Staff is cheery and helpful.the house is older and well priced… could use a little updating, having said that… can’t beat the price or the million dollar view..

Be careful about renting from Meredith Lodging

We rented The Lookout, a home in Lincoln City advertised by Meredith Lodging as a “luxurious retreat,” for four days between Christmas and New Year's. Our arrival was complicated by difficulty gaining access to the house as the electronic lock never worked. Once we entered we were shocked by what we saw. We found dirty, grungy furniture, floors that were scuffed and need refinishing, a dining table with noticeable layers of grime on it, unfinished tiling on the bathroom vanity, few closets to hang clothes, pots and pans that were peeling non-stick coating and were clear health hazards, low water pressure, no hot pads in the kitchen, a cheap compact microwave that was obviously not intended for this kitchen, and no wine glasses.

Furthermore, we had not been informed ahead of time that the house is adjacent to a public access area. At night, people in this area rummaged through the recycling bins for the house. This bin is located inches from the back room of the house where our daughter was staying, and she was awakened at night by loud conversations during this rummaging.

This same back bedroom had a wall hanging above the bed concealing a large circuit breaker. To have a circuit breaker inches from one’s pillow has to be a code violation. Furthermore, there was a large hole in the wall above the breakers, which was not just visually unappealing but also seemingly dangerous.

In addition, one of the windows in the living room leaked in heavy rain. The hot tub cover would not stay on in the strong wind. Water leaked underneath the downstairs door during the strong rain we had during our stay.

As soon as we saw the condition of the house, we asked Meredith to either provide us with a rental in Lincoln City that would meet the “luxury” standards The Lookout was advertised to be or, if one was not available, to refund us half of the $7600 we had paid for the four days. Meredith refused to do so. The only compensation they provided was to bring us wine glasses and a set of new pots and pans.

Meredith was completely disinterested in our concerns. They did the absolute minimum to satisfy us. Their position was, what is unsatisfactory to one person is perfectly fine to another, and “luxury accommodations” are a matter of opinion. They refused to refund any of the $7600. To date, we have not even received our cleaning fee, even though we left the house much cleaner than we found it.

Lastly, it deserves mentioning that we posted a review on The Lookout listing but Meredith has not made it available to the public. In fact, the last review of The Lookout is from March 2022, and the reviews that have been posted are only positive ones.

Please heed our warning and do your due diligence before renting from Meredith Lodging.

This company is horrible to deal with

This company is horrible to deal with. They have a buyer beware refund policy so definitely e very careful of renting from them. They will keep 30% of your booking including taxes they don’t pay to the government and fees they don’t pay for cleaning services and pet fees etc. They are a complete scam company.

The cancellation policy was also reiterated when you contacted us on December 5, 2022, requesting to cancel the reservation. We resent the cancellation policy via email, and then proceeded with the cancellation per your request.

AVOID

Very, very poor company to deal with. Do NOT deal with this company in any manner. Made reservations for a stay on the Oregon coast and due to unforeseen circumstances we had to cancel. We requested a cancellation within the stated timeframe and they refused to process it and then stated we contacted them after the stated cancellation window, which was completely false. Numerous phone calls and emails ended up going nowhere and one agent ended up yelling at ME for wanting to cancel. After that phone call they stopped communicating with me. I ended up approaching my bank and provided them with copies of the contract and cancellation policy, proving that I was working within all of their guidelines, and my bank was able to reverse the funds that we paid to Meredith Lodging as they agreed that it was fraudulent they were keeping our money. We later received an email from Meredith Lodging saying they would not dispute the refund and “weren’t we very happy with their wonderful service”??? That was appalling as we had to fight tooth and nail to get our deposit back and there was NO service from them. So heads up people - you can always approach your bank with your proof of fraud and they can reverse the funds back to you. Takes a little bit of work, but you don’t have to deal with Meredith Lodging. Once again, avoid this company as they are a sham for a business. If you are a property owner, do NOT approach this company to manage your property as they will screw you over too. Meredith Lodging will not find a reservation under my name, so no need to get a response from them that they can’t find my reservation to try and work with me. Nothing they say will ever get me to deal with them again. Beware! If I could give them negative stars I would have.

We arrived for the Christmas break and…

We arrived for the Christmas break and discovered quickly that ALL the faucets had salt water coming out of them - including the filtered water faucets. There was dog poop in the corner of the living room; the fireplace didn't work, the hot tub stopped half way through our trip and well, the list goes on and on. They know exactly what our issues were and have offered no recompense, sympathy, help or anything. DON"T rent from them.

Guests are provided with a Brita pitcher with a filter to help further. There has been no findings of an issue with safety in regards to the current state of the tap water in the home. We Love Meredith Lodging!

I had a fantastic time staying with Meredith Lodging at Riverwoods Lodge. The house was in a great shape and it was amazing to have the river running in the backyard. We felt so cozy playing games by the fire and cooking hearty meals in the well-stocked kitchen. Our group will definitely return!

Another run around.....

To Meredith Lodging,
You say that you credited me 2x but I can't find a credit anywhere. Can you please tell me what these credits are and where/what credit card I can find them?
UPDATE - I called your company today and spoke to Loren. I have not found any credits to my credit card that was used. She told me that my booking fee was credited back and then another credit for $50 extra. Really??!!!
If u were willing to give me a $500 credit towards lodging with you again ( which is useless to me), then why not give me a $500 refund on my stay that was horrible? I spent almost $2000 for 2 days of lodging at a crappy place ( nothing like your posted pictures) and all you will refund is a lousy $200? BTW, Loren couldn't find where your supposed credit went back to me so now she's referring my case to "Julie". She took my information (again) and said Julie will have to look into it and get back to me.

Meredith Lodging very disappointing

EDIT: Meredith Lodging's response below is inadequate at best. I will continue to purse this issue to the farthest extent and have filed a better business bureau complaint. All one has to do is look at the dozens and dozens of negative reviews online exactly like mine to see that this company does not care one bit about its guests. Zero financial compensation has been offered to resolve our issue. Unacceptable.

I stayed at a Meredith Lodging property earlier this month with my family and we had a very bad experience. The fireplace, hot tub, TV, and washing machine either didn't work, or barely worked. We tried to contact them, but they were not responsive. A man who said he was a service technician came to the property to fix the washing machine and they never notified us. When we finally got ahold of them they said no one was scheduled to come. There were no instructions, and they were very hard to get ahold of. Since then, their customer service has been very slow to respond and not addressed any of our issues. I am not having to go to great lengths to get someone from management to contact me directly. We felt unsafe at the property with a strange man coming inside. They did not care at all when we told them about this - either for our safety or the alarm this caused. I called today to try to get this resolved and I was trying to explain the extent of our issues and the person on the phone told me I was talking for too long and HUNG UP ON ME. I tried to explain that I was simply trying to communicate the specifically what was wrong because the person who responded to my email clearly did not or chose not to understand. Yes, the amenities worked SOME OF THE TIME, but not consistently. Further, our safety concerns were not addressed. I am having to reach out via social media to try to get their attention. While I do appreciate that someone on Instagram immediately reached out to me and said they would contact me tomorrow, I do not appreciate that they immediately deleted my comments. As I am reading these reviews, I see countless instances of others who have had very similar issues, and it is clear that Meredith Lodging is doing nothing to resolve them.

Suffice it say, based on my experience so far, I would discourage anyone from booking a Meredith Lodging property. I wish I had read the google reviews before booking. This was a big expenditure for my family and we were and are very disappointed. Had Meredith's customer service been responsive and taken our concerns seriously, it would be a very different story.

The Quaint Beach Cabin MCA 736 in Manzanita

The Beach Cabin MCA 736 in Manzanita. Wonderful stay and a very clean and quaint home. Had extra amenities not noted on web site, such as Deluxe Keurig Coffee Maker for k cups. And a DVD/CD player. Loved the neighborhood and only a block from beach.
Since first time using Meredith Lodging, I was concerned about some of the negative reviews. But just trusted the process plus I was familiar with the town and knew these houses would be nice.

Excellent stay at the Sweet Olivia…

Excellent stay at the Sweet Olivia Beach location in Lincoln City, OR.

The home is in a great neighborhood and close to everything we wanted to see and do. It was also very clean and comfortable. Meredith Lodging provided us with an excellent "home base" for our Oregon coast vacation. Everything we needed, (and then some), to make our stay just perfect. The hot tub, especially, was a welcome relief after a long days exploring. Super clean, no sand and all the jets work.

Would NOT recommend! Pictures are deceiving! Does NOT sleep 4! Was told there was a pull out sofa bed there was NOT- we had 4 people and not enough space to sleep☹️
Sliding door would not open and once able to get it working would not lock. Furnishings were well past needing replacement-“sofa bed” was super uncomfortable!
Sure the view was stunning but we weren’t paying $$$$ to sleep on the beach!
Meredith Lodging is an absentee company and to date I have yet to have management return my calls.
Until then I will continue to let all know this is NOT where you want to stay!

Avoid the Rockaway, OR house

We are presently in a house in Rockaway Beach, Or. with one AC unit. (The advertisement for this house said it had air-conditioning. This unit barely cools the one room that it’s in. It is a unit on the wall. The rest of the house has no units nor fans. When we open the windows there is muck and grime and insects all around the windowsills. ) The Internet is down and they sent over a maintenance person, and did not send over the person from the cable company who would’ve been the only person able to repair the situation. Which means that there’s neither cable nor Internet. Both of which were advertised in the materials.
There is a window that is literally shattered in the family room. A plank missing from the stairs where one is already tapped up. When we arrived, it was 95° in the house because all of the blinds have been left open with the sun beating down and no air conditioner left on to cool it off. The downstairs smells like feet. Very musty.
The planters in front of the house are literally shattered and the plants with their weeds are exploding out of them. Nothing has been maintained. There’s a cabinet in the kitchen that’s falling off and a cabinet in one of the bedrooms that is also falling off its hinge. There is an entire room that has a sign on the door accessing it that says dear valued guest, this room is not meant for overnight stays. At this point no one here feels like a valued guest.
Please save yourself the money, the stress, and the disappointment and do not use the house in Rockaway. They do not know how to manage this property in a way that makes guest feel welcome, at home, or in the very least comfortable. They have done nothing to rectify the many flaws of this house. It was not inexpensive either. We were refunded for 1/3 of the stay. Very disappointing and the best we can do is prevent other people from having the same situation. Please go elsewhere for your stay.

Beachcomber Haven HORRIBLE!!!!

My family and I stayed in the Beachcomber Haven from Aug 1-4, 2022. It was HORRIBLE!!!

I texted the management company with all the pictures of broken/damaged/stained/dirty things and never heard back. When we called the emergency phone number because the fridge wasn’t working they never came. We had to clean up A LOT of water 2 times from the fridge and the maintenance man didn’t come until we called for the third time. We had to store our food in our cooler over night because the fridge wasn’t cold. My husband got the fridge working so by the time the maintenance man got there there was no problem.

The cereal bowls were chipped, the pot was scratched, the pan was burnt and had burnt food left on it in the cupboard. The couch and chair on the main level were falling apart. There were 2 broken chairs at the kitchen table and one broken chair outside. The living room rug had food goop on it and wasn’t vacuumed. There were no less than 7 big stains on the main bedroom carpet. When I cleaned the bathroom after my son got sand in there there was lots of long black hair (I have short red hair and my boys have no hair or short red/blond hair) and when I wiped the bottom of the shower door there was black mold/slime. One of the living room pillows looked like someone used it as a napkin. There were bug eggs on the side of the ottoman. One of the blinds on the patio door was missing. One of the support beams for the railing to the upper deck was broken. The carpet was lifting at the doorway to the basement bedroom. The wifi didn’t work in the basement bedroom. The remote for the tv in the basement bedroom didn’t work (stuck at volume 100) so we had to put the ROKU app on our phones to work the tv. The door on the 1/2 bathroom didn’t close all the way and you couldn’t lock it.

I have pictures of all of this and sent them to the management company before we were there for 24 hours but never heard back from them!!!

Needs some serious attention

We stayed at the Alta Marea Shore in Depoe Bay, Oregon. The location, layout, space, and view of the ocean were excellent. However, the positive attributes end there. The house was not clean. The carpet throughout the house was very worn down and was severely stained everywhere. There was debris under the couches and beds. The walls had marks and scuffs throughout the house. The curtains were super dusty and the curtains in the 1/2 bath were stained. Most of the toilet paper holders were loose and falling off the wall. The outdoor wooden railing on the upper level was loose on one end, posing a danger to our children. There is just a lot of deferred maintenance that needs to be addressed. Addressing these items, a fresh coat of paint, and the installation of new carpet would make this house shine.

At least the couches were comfortable...

My family has been traveling to Sunriver and staying in different properties for over 25 years, and this is the first time I've ever had to leave a review like this one. I'm going to dig into the details below if you're curious and/or cautious, but the summary is simple; the all-around rental experience was woefully disappointing - from the unacceptably dirty accommodations to the way Meredith Lodging neglected their duty to provide reasonable solutions to our issues and their failure to communicate with us once things went sideways.

Let's start on a positive note. Big picture, the property has potential. From the photos we were very excited to spend a last-minute end-of-summer vacation there, right next to the bike path and only a mile+ from the Sunriver Village.

But when you look past the wide-angle and get into the details, the rest of the picture comes into focus.

When we arrived the front walkway to the door was littered with wrappers, cigarette butts, and pine needles. I can't say for certain butt it didn't seem like the front was looked after in the least, and it goes without saying our first impression was not positive. Heading inside it didn't get any better. It was dirty. Built-up grime, clumps of hair from guests-past in the bathroom, even dog hair in the master although this is labeled as pet-free and dust in every nook, and cranny throughout. Enough so we could write our names on top of the undersized fridge (which for a group of 8 - the max number of guests allowed - would be a real tight squeeze), the shelves, and the light fixtures. The kitchen drawers had visible dirt clumped in the corners and cupboards were so filthy we stowed our food on the counter instead.

The general feeling was that any attention paid to the property was simply surface level, and even though the listing passionately speaks to a heightened level of cleanliness this was all window dressing. What they promised was not our experience.

When I first contacted Meredith Lodging to discuss the state of the rental and explore options it was through email. I was in the middle of checking in and getting my family settled and it was the easiest method for me, expecting the email to be returned or for them to call at some point. The email was returned a day-and-a-half later. A day-and-a-half. Putting this into perspective, we only rented the property for 3 nights. You can see the issue. By the time the property manager was bothered to reply, the trip was almost over.

In parallel, my wife reached out by text message to Meredith Lodging and another representative did in fact reach out right away. We were one-for-two at this point. The representative apologized and sent housekeeping back out to make things right. Things were looking up. Until we returned after housekeeping had left to find that nothing appeared to be done. The cigarette butt was still outside on the walkway. The dust still as thick. The HVAC intake filter in the living room that was clogged with an impermeable, solid layer of dirt was not replaced, it was simply removed leaving a filter-less hole in the wall. I guess there's something to be said for taking the easiest route. People with allergies, this may not be the home for you.

Now the most disappointing part; how Meredith responded. They didn't. Not a word. We were ghosted, as my kids would say. After the attempted re-cleaning we reached out still completely unsatisfied, and we received no response. Even after sending photos (again) making our case. They just failed to respond after repeated attempts to get help, and still haven't as of this post.

I could continue by describing how I was assured (in writing) the property had AC as part of the HVAC (it didn't), and how the listing said there was a canoe/kayak available (there wasn't) and so forth but why at this point. Bottom line, there was an overwhelming sense of neglect of the property, from the Meredith staff (whom I have yet to hear from) and a disrespect for guests that I couldn't let go unaddressed. Maybe we were just unlucky, caught them during a tough time, but for a company that has one job - to create memorable, positive experiences for guests so they become promoters of the properties and return visitors, Meredith has done quite the opposite.

A level of trust must exist for these things to work. A trust that the property is clean, things are as they say they are in the listing, and when things go wrong, someone is there to see the issue through to the end. And they must trust we'll pay. Well, I did my part.

P.S. They just took down our reviews on Twitter and their website. Great when you can control the narrative.

Nautical by Nature

My family and I could not have been more excited and grateful to be one of the first guests at Nautical by Nature. From the moment we stepped inside, we were completely captivated by the unique and fun design elements of this adorable and stylish home. Every room is beautifully appointed yet cozy with the perfect combination of attention to detail and modern beachy aesthetic. My kids thought the giant whale rug and jellyfish wallpaper were the coolest!!

We LOVED so many aspects of our stay here….. listening to albums on the record player, cooking in the fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances, playing jenga at the island bar, and enjoying the rain showers and the super comfortable beds and sleeper sofa. We were also beyond thrilled that Nautical by Nature is a dog friendly home! Our boy Jack was super appreciative of the awesome dog beds on each floor, and perfect feeding and drinking bowls that were provided.

The location of the home is really great as well! It is just a short walk to access gorgeous Pacific City beach, and another easy stroll up to the local shops and restaurants. Nautical by Nature is such a gem! It truly was a treat to stay here and we can’t recommend this one-of-a-kind home enough. Thank you for giving our family such a lovely getaway. We can’t wait to come back soon.

I would give them a zero

I would give them a zero, if I could. These people are the worst. We asked 6 months ahead of time if we could shift our 7 day reservation up by one day. I was informed that we would have to cancel the entire reservation and pay an exorbitant cancellation fee. There is zero flexibility with this company. The previous time we rented from them, we had to cancel many months in advance and lost a huge amount of money. Here's the thing, you pay a bunch of $$ upfront and the contract is written so you have no protections to get any of your money back. It's a gamble that I am not willing to take again. Don't risk doing business with them when there are so many other options!

Anchors aweigh home in Rockaway Beach…

Anchors aweigh home in Rockaway Beach was the perfect place for our family of 17 to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of my parents. We couldn't have asked for anything more perfect. There was plenty of room for everyone...to include beds!! The kitchen was great for making all of our evening meals and plenty of seating for all to eat at the same time. The game room was a HUGE hit with all of us...everyone from 2-72 enjoyed it very much! The fire pit made for some awesome family time together reminiscing over old times and making new memories!! Thank you for opening up your home for others to enjoy, it was PERFECT!
