Losing money in the time of Covid.
I had booked a house in Manzanita for a week’s stay over the Easter break. I had paid in full and was coming from Canada. Then Covid-19 hit. My employer told me not to travel. My provincial government told me not to travel. My Federal government told me not to travel. Then, both the Canadian and the U.S, governments closed the border to non-essential travel. No surprise... my holiday is not considered essential. Then, Manzanita closed. Meredith Lodging gave me a credit. The dates within which I could use the credit varied depending on the person I was I contact with. The only time I can use the credit is next April (Easter). I looked into that and the price had more than doubled. I contacted Meredith Lodging and asked if the price match dates would cover a booking at that time of year. Still to receive a clear answer. Just get a repeat of a few price match dates and a reminder that I can’t possibly get a refund...see policies. These policies were written before this pandemic.
I did not cancel on a whim. I could not get to Oregon if I had sprouted wings and flown over the closed border. This is not how I wished my much anticipated holiday would end. I would like to know what has been done with my money... money spent on a service I did not receive-through no fault of my own. This may not seem like a lot of money to Meredith Lodging but it is to me. I worked hard for it and I saved for a little treat by the beach.
This is a time for flexibility and compassion... not price gouging.
Update- May 23, 2020.
I have now emailed Meredith Lodging three times since their response to this initial review and have not received a reply. My booking of Pelican Peek in Manzanita was originally for 7 nights. The credit Meredith Lodging gave me would not even cover a 2 night stay at the newly increased prices.
I would love to know what Meredith Lodging is doing with my money...

It took some time and some tenacity but we finally got this sorted out. Once I reached out via social media, someone contacted me and graciously offered a solution. I am grateful a solution was found as I was very disappointed to have missed my much anticipated holiday. My trust in this company has been renewed. Thank you.

We are another cancellation due to the Cov19 closure. Oregon officially closed all vacation rentals on March 25th. We waited for 2 additional weeks, just hoping things would change, but finally had to cancel with no known date that we could reschedule. With the Airlines requiring a 2 week quarantine between states, a 3 day/night stay wasn't possible. We were charged a booking fee, cancel fee, and TAX on top of that? We did receive $21.52 back. When we are able to travel again, we won't be coming here. When the State mandates you can't come, then you can't charge for a service we never got.

TERRIBLE customer service
Here is another review about the terrible customer service with cancelation of our two large beach houses rented during the COVID-19 outbreak. I normally do not do reviews unless there is TERRIBLE service. These are unprecedented times and your standard cancellation policy should not be the stance during a worldwide pandemic. All other vacation rental companies are being flexible with there cancellation policies but not them. Will definitely never use again.

I totally agree with the previous review. I cancelled my stay over 60 days in advance and had made the mistake of also taking out travel insurance, $109.97. I not only didn't get my booking fee of $161.24 refund but I also had a $75.00 cancellation fee charged against my deposit. I tried speaking to the processing company about my refund and they said to contact Meredith direct. The quote I was given over the phone and the amount the refunds quoted from the processing company was about $130.00 difference. In vain I spoke to the travel insurance folks and they had a message on there phone that stated they would not be giving in refunds due to the COVID 19 unless you actually caught the disease while on your trip. I will not be using this company any more and wish they'd take a page from other companies and grant a full refund.
Update: April 10, 2020, I just heard from the 3rd party processing company about my refund. They charged me a tax on my booking and cancellation fee’s. So I received $121.52 of my initial deposit of $494.43. What a racket, stay away from businesses that conduct themselves like this. Especially in the current COID 19 pandemic. Plus they charged me tax on both fees. How does that work, they didn’t earn any of the money. Update April 24, 2020: I still haven't heard from anyone. Did hear from the travel insurance folks, nothing covered so a waste of almost $110 of travel insurance as well. Remember RedSky Travel Insurance and Meredith House Rentals, making money off of a world pandemic, pray for the proper karma.

Terrible company.
Had to cancel a weekend trip due to Covid 19. Even with 32 day advance notice & the state regulation to stay home, they refuse to return deposit. Charged me $161 & when I ask for full refund, am smugly referred to their cancellation policy. I have not received any explanation as to why the amount is so much. Other management companies in the area are overlooking these policies & refunding in full. Terrible company.
I have made it very clear to them that I am not interested in doing business with them in the future & they should refund the $161in full. They continue to repeat that they are keeping it for future use. How gone deaf are they?

I have stayed with Meredith Lodging 3 times over this past year and each experience has been great. I had a spring break reservation for this upcoming weekend and Meredith Lodging offered me a full credit for a future stay. Wonderful Company!
We have stayed with Meredith Lodging many times over the last several years. Each time we look forward to our next vacation with them! We have stayed in vacation homes on the Oregon Coast and in Bend and all of them have been outstanding! The customer service we’ve had over the years is definitely something that brings us back, working with us on finding the perfect home and location with the amenities that we’ve requested, allowing us to focus on having fun with our family and friends. In each home we’ve felt very comfortable with the amazing cleanliness of the homes. Our daughter has grown up staying with Meredith Lodging , from crawling all over the floors to running circles around them now. This company has made a huge impact on our lives as we use them to make the memories of our vacations.
We wanted to come on here and leave a little review about our experience with you. But most of all, we wanted to say how thankful we are for having Meredith Lodging in our community! The love and support of all the local businesses and many family’s that YOU support is incredible!!

I have stayed with Meredith Lodging multiple times over the last 8 year and have always had a great experience. The staff is friendly and responsive, and the homes are always very clean. We have an upcoming reservation and due to COVID-19 called Meredith Lodging to see if we could move the stay. I am so grateful to report that Meredith Lodging provided me with a future stay credit valued at the full amount of my reservation. I know they are a local business and appreciate them working with me through these challenging times. We are excited to be back again soon!

THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.
I ONLY gave this business a one star because I had to choose an option. We had booked a home for spring break next week. However with this COVID-19 epidemic, we were having to cancel our trip as we are coming from Idaho. We have multiple small children, one immunocompromised. We have our grandmother, WITH BRAIN CANCER who is clearly immunocompromised and due to myself, working in health care my office is requiring a 14 day leave once I return from traveling out of the state to ensure the safety of our patients and staff members. We contacted Meredith lodging, in hopes to get. refund for now as this is a world wide crisis. People are being quarantined in some cities, there has been a state of emergency placed for the entire US. Yet Meredith lodging is REFUSING to refund us. We asked to move the date, they said they would leave it as a credit and the difference in price from spring break this year, to next year is almost 4,000 dollars more. This is absolutely unacceptable. It is unsafe for people to travel yet you are going to keep my families $3800 dollars in this state of emergency! This is the absolute WORST experience, worst customer service and worst humans. We will never book with this company again, I will ensure our horrific experience with this company will be posted all over my social media, all over google, yelp, better business bureau. Do not book with them. Had we booked with another another company, we would have been refunded due to the COVID-19 crisis.
** Reply to response. You HAVE NOT attempted in the slightest to help us out as a customer. We tried to book at a later date yet it was almost double the price. We have two high risk family members. Why would be pay double the price for a later date? The booking was under Debbie or Deborah Harris. You have refunded another customer who is also from Nampa Idaho like we are, we have her messages. Then Oregon governor called a state crisis and vacations were being cancelled and people who booked were refunded. So why do you guys think it is ethical and appropriate to keep over $3800.00? Especially during this panademic. IF you ask me, it shows what terrible management you guys have and lack of ethics that follow closely behind. It is really terrible to see how many people have had the exact same experience, you would think putting your customers first would be in your best interest but obviously not. Horrible reviews are on nearly every website I have found about your business.... I wouldnt call that a success.
I highly recommend doing the right thing, these people (including myself) refuse to let this terrible service go un noticed.

HORRIBLE SERVICE. DO NOT USE THEM
I had to select a star but of I could I would give them NOTHING.This company has been awful to deal with. They think that offering you a credit to stay within the year of 2020 is enough. Well it's not. They arent even offering credit to stay the same time of the following year. It's not just big companies that are loosing money. It's people like my family. That are self employed and dont have unemployment insurance and due to this COVID19 have to shut down. We need extra money to pay our mortgage now. More than the people who own million dollar homes on the beach as rental properties. Meridith Lodging is not doing their part to help society with this epidemic. I WILL NEVER use them again after this.

Amazing stay with Meredith Lodging in Bend!
Had an amazing stay with Meredith Lodging in Bend. The home we stayed in was easy to beat the traffic out of town to the mountain for a day on the slopes and close enough we could be at the Old Mill in 10 minutes. Extra bonus points for the huge movie room hot tub and other fun games provided at the home. Can't wait to go back.

Never use Meredith lodging
Stayed at: A Beautiful Day house in Lincoln City, OR.
Paid: $1644 for check in at 4pm on a Friday and check out at 11am on a Sunday.
Pictures made home look much nicer than actual home condition.
Was notified 2 days before trip that part of deck would be unusable do to repair needed.
Arrived at rental to not only be able to use part of deck but also not be able to use fireplace, rest of deck needed much repair, multiple safety issues throughout, the interior was dated and old.
They received 2 stars for having a working hot tub and beach access.
Way over priced and do not recommend ever using Meredith Lodging! Customer service is terrible.

Gave us a last minute run around after booking months ahead for a suitable wheel chair accessible house
My husband and I planned a vacation to take our children and grandchildren to Lincoln city.
We are from multiple states and grandson is a wheel chair user. We found a perfect house, one level and with a dock since it’s much more handicap accessible then most. I called a week before we arrived and looked like we would even be able to do an early check in. With in a few blocks arriving to the house I received a phone call that they have to fumigate for fleas and we have 3 options, cancel trip and reschedule, find a place to stay on my own or they would put us in another house for 2 nights and then go to another house for 2 nights. Mind you now check out is 11 and checkin is at 5. Not only was both the other houses they put us in was very inadequate for a wheel chair user (1 of them had 3 flights of stairs, the other 2 flights of stairs, but now we had to pack up everyone and our dogs and find something to do for 6 hours in between. I am very disappointed with the lack of concern from Meredith. We will not ever use them again. When I explained that this won’t work I was told I can find something else on my own then. We really couldn’t just turn around and go home since everyone has already arrived.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! NEVER RENT FROM MEREDITH LODGING! The house we stayed at in Lincoln City was not only a complete disappointment, but full of safety hazards. There were water leaks among other things. This house was very expensive and a beachfront property. We were told they would call us back on two different occasions because we wanted to switch houses, if possible. They didn't call us back either time and finally, after our trip was complete, they contacted us. They asked for a list of issues with the home and said they would compensate us. After emailing back and forth they, without asking if it was sufficient, gave us a small refund and an even smaller credit for a future stay that was even less. The refund was much less than even one nights stay. After telling them this was nowhere near enough, we received no response. This is the list of problems I sent to Meredith Lodging:
1. There is a lack of window screens including upstairs windows. This is a huge safety hazard and was a constant worry with two small children in the house.
2. The driveway has a large dip in it with no marking to indicate there is a tripping hazard. Literally everyone in our group almost tripped on it even after we knew it was there. Some paint would be all you need to at least make it noticeable.
3. There were no window coverings on the entire west side of the home. Pictures on the site showed that there were. We actually had to tape sheets up to block the sun later in the day so it wasn't both very hot and blinding to be in the main living area of the home.
4. There was a loose banister in the NW room upstairs in the house. Another safety concern.
5.Drawers in kitchen open in front of each other. One of the drawer pull knobs was cut off to make clearance for another drawer.
6.There is Duct tape in two of the showers where a handle or something used to be. This is an unbelievable "fix" from any standpoint. It shows a very serious lack of care for the maintenance of the home. Water damage can be very serious and expensive. Not to mention a health hazard to people paying to stay in a home.
7. The first floor has a bathroom which is blocked by the entry door while open, has about an inch and a half step in the middle of it that is very well disguised and a constant tripping hazard in a room that can easily have a wet floor. I don't even know what to say about that. Also, in the same bathroom, any person over 5 ft who would be standing to use the toilet would hit there head on the slanted ceiling if you don't stand further away or lean back while using it.
8. There is another door to the deck that would block the door to the NW bedroom upstairs while its open. The only way to ensure the upstairs stays cool during the day is to block this door and it is right at the top of the stairs also.
9. There is a lack of cabinets in the Kitchen area which is not the uncommon, but it is uncommon for two sets of cabinets and drawers to open into the back of a couch that is only useful if it blocks these cabinets.
10. One of the downstairs bedrooms has a door that will not close.
11. A different bedroom downstairs has no closet. That really makes it not a bedroom.
12. There are smoke detectors missing in many locations throughout the home including inside bedrooms. That is a huge safety concern.
13. There were many electrical outlets that either don't work at all or intermittently work. This is a huge red flag for electrical issues that are on the long list of safety concerns.
14 The first thing you notice when you walk in is the rotten hole in the lower end of the wall as you walk inside.
DO NOT rent from Meredith lodging EVER.

Terrible Service
We stayed in Bend from 5/20-5/23/19. We left some clothing there. We were called the next day to let us know we left these items and that they would be glad to return them. They sent us a link since they use an outside company to manage lost items??? Not sure why. I filled this out, talked to staff at Meredith on at least 3 occasions about getting my item returned - to no avail. I am frustrated and am shocked that they are still in business.

Solitude House-Lincoln City, Oregon
AVOID MEREDITH LODGING! We rented the Solitude house in Lincoln City, Oregon for 2 days. When we arrived we found the house in dire need of repair and filthy. Food and garbage under furniture, baking pans were rusty, bird poop on BBQ grate, dirty dishes in cupboards, screen door broken, no screens on windows and broken locks on ground floor window which prevented the house from being secured. The hot tub was exposed to the elements and had a filthy wet piece of carpeting for a welcome mat. Worst of all the home had been listed as having cable TV on two televisions when in fact the home had no cable. Our party of 10 had to watch the biggest game of the year on an IPad rather than the big screen TV. When we complained (and sent photos) about the condition of the house we received $100 off a $1,500.00 bill! When we persisted that this was not sufficient compensation we no longer were able to speak with a supervisor and our calls were not returned. Worst vacation rental experience ever!

Tall Timbers
My mother booked 3 nights for us to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend in Bend, OR. Unfortunately, we found the ‘Tall Timbers’ property to be sorely lacking. Not only was it void of the hot tub that was advertised (the only reason we booked the place), but it was also without basic amenities like bedding for the pull-out sofas, non-stick cookware, or an operational BBQ. We found the home to be in disrepair, dirty, and aesthetically cold. I know these homes are owned individually but managed by Meredith. Having noted that, perhaps Meredith Lodging should have stricter parameters for homeowners, or perhaps bi-annual inspections? This can’t be the type of representation Meredith wants or needs. We stayed at a property in Lincoln City last year and it was alright. This was disgraceful.
