I am very disappointed with aftercare services
I am very disappointed with my experience purchasing a Strelitzia Nicolai from Hutch Houseplants.
Before buying, I explained that I have young children and wanted an easy-care plant. We had recently visited the Eden Project and loved the tropical feel, so were excited to recreate something similar at home. One of the reasons I felt comfortable buying such a large plant was my understanding that support would be available when it eventually needed repotting.
When the time came, I was disappointed to be told that no such support had been offered. Had I known I would be expected to manage repotting a plant of this size myself, I would not have made the purchase.
While the plant itself is beautiful, the after-sales support fell well below my expectations. I would advise customers to get any important promises or aftercare commitments confirmed in writing at the time of purchase.
*adding this after reading Rob’s reply- Rob, I have never met you, so you can’t comment on my experience. The information my husband and I were given by Jenna before purchasing the plant — including that it would be repotted when needed — was a significant factor in my decision to buy it.

We want all of our customers to have a fantastic experience with us, and therefore a review like yours is very disappointing; however, it is not unexpected in this case, as you are well aware. You in fact emailed us a slightly different draft of this review yesterday, threatening its publication if your demands were not met within 24 hours.
Having spent 9 years running this business, I can safely say that I have never had an experience quite like engaging with you. I feel it is necessary to outline the facts of the situation, for anyone reading this review and who may be considering making a purchase with us in the future.
In August 2025 you purchased a beautiful Strelitzia nicolai from us; at the time, as we do with all purchases, we offered future support and assistance should you require it.
You contacted us in June 2026, some 10 months later, with photos of a stunning Strelitzia that is growing incredibly well, but had developed a very minor lean to it. Over the following week, we have engaged in a chain of 11 emails, 3 phone calls and a lengthy visit you made to the shop. Through these interactions we have worked hard to help you with your concerns. We have provided detailed advice on how to adjust the lean (through rotation of the plant) and provided detailed advice on how to repot the plant; in fact you sent us a photo of the pots and houseplant compost you have at home to undertake such a task and I provided my thoughts on the best pot to use. We have tried to be patient, kind and courteous throughout.
In your interactions both on the phone and in store, you have been combative and upsetting to our staff. You have been unwilling to listen to our advice, have stated that you simply don’t ‘have time’ to repot the plant yourself and instead have outlined your own set of requirements:
1. I visit your house to personally repot the plant
2. I staff the shop outside of opening hours to take receipt of the plant early in the morning, repot and then return the plant to you
3. I pay you to find a ‘professional repotting service’ to repot the plant for you, at our expense
4. I issue you with a full refund or accept the return of a perfectly happy and healthy plant that you purchased 10 months ago
All of the above are entirely unrealistic and were not offered at the time of purchase. I think you sum it up perfectly; we want all of our customers to feel confident in managing all future maintenance and repotting themselves, something that we are here to support them with. I am sorry that you didn’t realise that in purchasing a live plant, you would be responsible for the care of the plant moving forward.
We want Hutch Houseplants to be a welcoming and calm environment, both for customers and our staff and I therefore kindly ask that you refrain from any further contact, but wish you well with your Strelitzia.

Absolutely my new favourite store
Absolutely my new favourite store, the inside is gorgeous and like stepping into a dream! so clean and lovely, all of the plants look so healthy! making orders online is also so easy especially with ordering to click and collect, my order was ready the next day and the lady working recognised me from my previous trip and was so helpful both times, providing excellent customer service!

Home delivery, nice plants
I bought plants from their shop in person before, always good, healthy looking with many options to choose from. This time I ordered two plants for home delivery, very happy with everything. I would recommend.
