Booked an emergency call‑out through Crystal Maintenance / George the plumber due to a burst flexi pipe at one of our properties.
He arrived within the hour, which we appreciated. After assessing the issue, he confirmed it was the flexi pipe that had failed — typically a low‑cost part (£10–£15).
We were then quoted £925.00 for the repair, in addition to the £59 call‑out fee. We declined the repair, asked for the pipe to be capped off, paid the call‑out fee, and arranged for another professional to attend. The second engineer completed the job for a significantly lower and more reasonable price.
Based on our experience, we would not recommend this company. The pricing we were given did not feel proportionate to the work required. This review reflects our genuine experience with the service provided.
I found this listing in an emergency on Google
I found this listing in an emergency on 1 October 2026. It says the business has 70+ years' experience. Here's what happened:
I was charged £928, including £400 for "leak detection". The leak was found by taking off the bath panel; no specialist equipment was used.
When I got home, the leak was still going, the bath unit was damaged, the hot and cold supplies had been connected the wrong way round, and the water had been left switched off without telling me.
I had to pay a second plumber to fix the leak and correct the work.
The invoice didn't come from "George the Plumber". It came from MSF Plumbing Ltd, which Companies House shows was incorporated in July 2026. It had no company number or business address, and the only contact I was given was a Gmail address. Companies House also shows that the company behind this listing, George Plumbing and Maintenance Ltd (since renamed), was only incorporated in June 2026, not 70 years ago.
In my view this listing gives a misleading impression of a long-established local business. Before booking, check Companies House and ask for a full company name, number and address up front.
Make sure you take photos before they start work.
beware read the reviews, I made expensive mistake…
when I rang at 6.20 pm,I was quoted £47 call out fee and the plumber would then give me a quote.
After looking at the job, he gave me two prices one for a straightforward job and second if it became more complicated. Both were in my opinion exorbitant,,even bearing in mind the job was being carried out at 8pm. I was between a rock and a hard place so agreed, to the unbelievable high figures.
the job involved replacing a ballcock in an attic tank, there were slight complications , so the 10 minute job turned into an hour.
the plumber completed the work and the water was no longer going into the overflow pipe. job done so I thought. he explained the job had a three-month guarantee. next morning I went to use the hot water tap and no water came out, I'm not an expert but I guessed it was an airlock. I rang the plumber he contacted the office rang me back and said that there would be an extra charge. I firmly explained that as a professional plumber ,as the tank had been emptied, it was his responsibility to check all taps were working correctly before he left, which he had not. I would not be paying any extra. he understood rang the office, rang me back and said he would do the work at no extra cost he would be round in two hours.
meantime I went on AI, it suggested a solution to unblocking the air lock which was very straightforward.
I followed the guidelines which took two minutes and it worked. I rang the plumber and explained I would not be needing his services.
the work he did I could not fault, (except checking for airlocks,) but the company is out to squeeze every single £100!!!! out of the customer.
for this reason I only gave them two stars and would recommend prospective customers read the reviews, I wish I had before engaging them.
oh yes, I had assumed before calling George the plumber,it was a " one man" operation and his name was George, obviously this is not the case it is a company with a number of employees.
SCAMMERS-AVOID!!!
SCAMMERS-AVOID!!!
Had an uneasy feeling from the moment i called them but as ut was an emergency, I didnt read the reviews!
Firstly when you call you had to press 1 to be put through, weird. He turned up half an hour later in jeans and trainers, no id, no bag, no car or van even!
My radiator was literally on the floor, he said "is this it"?! No mate, I always leave my radiators lying on the floor!
I even asked if he was a plumber and he said yes but absolutely no way I was ignoring this gut feeling, thought, hes going to make this 100 times worse. Took me to paying him £47 to get him out of my house!! Extremely awkward and concerning experience

Agree fully with all the other negative reviews. £57 call out fee, turns into a massive final bill. Unfortunately we needed a leak fixing and was stupid not to double check. NOT a local plumber as advertised. The job involved draining the central heating and turning off the combi boiler, the plumber had no idea how to turn the boiler off or back on. Pretty sure I had more experience refilling/pressurising the system on completion of the repair.
I’ve learnt my lesson.
Please please do not use George the plumber, everything just felt wrong.
Having rechecked my initial Google search…….WARNING……..there are multiple companies with different names with almost similar Ads, identical wording, different photos. Please be careful when searching for an emergency plumber
Good Experience fixing slow leak on tenant boiler
Our tenant's boiler had a slow leak. We called George the plumber on the Friday and he attended on the Saturday. George was friendly and polite with the tenant and called me the landlord to confirm before he went to get the parts. George arranged convenient time with the tenant and fixed the boiler leak.
Im writing this review a few months later and we are still happy with the service received. The tenant seems hasnt reported any further leaks so the job was a gooden.
George even offered to come and look again if we noticed any issues, but he seemed to have done a great job even months later, no problems reported.
Happy Tenant; Happy Landlord.
AVOID AVOID AVOID !!!
AVOID AVOID AVOID !!!! Use this company at your peril. Absolute scammers !!! Wish I’d read the reviews earlier, have had exactly the same issues as everyone else. Too angry and upset to put the whole sorry tale into words. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY !!
EDIT: Also be aware that the number we found was for George the Plumber which implied it was a local business, it is not ! It may also be under the name of George Plumbing - they are one and the same so please beware of both !!!
Very expensive and intimidating.
Very expensive and intimidating.
They quoted a very high price which i declined. They then refused to leave my house. In the end I had to trespass them and insist they left with the threat of physical force

My sister is 75 years of age and was asked to make a bank tranfer of almost £600 to a private account for an hour’s work, and replacement of a small part for a dripping tap. Total abusive scammers. Avoid!
Inefficient, exobernent prices, £1,300 plus hourly rate for a 2-hour basic job - would not recommend at all.
Whilst having some non-plumbing work done a hole was accidentally drilled into a pipe which feeds a radiator. After turning off the water, an emergency plumber was sought. George the Plumber said he could do it. This company uses numerous contractors. The guy who came out took 5 hours to do a 2-hour job. The company charge was £1300 and in addition I can only assume the contractor had a healthy hourly rate. He had to make one 20 mile round trip to get some parts he needed, which is far enough. But the trip took 2 hours. When he returned, he did 15 mins work before saying he had to go out again to get some pipe??!! No clear reason as to why a) as an emergency plumber he wasn't better equipped in the first place, and b) why after assessing the job he didn't get all the basics he was missing on the first trip. He also did not take any care to cover floors/furniture when cutting away plasterboard, leaving us with quite a mess. At the end of the day we are not paying for this work, the company who caused the initial problem were absolutely on it in terms of taking full responsibility and ensuring we weren't out of pocket. But I don't like to see this sort of behaviour and wanted to warn others to be wary. Judging from the other reviews, this company must have some good contractors but sadly our experience was far from good, I would not recommend!
Don't use
Had a leak behind whb needed someone fast and called out this lot without checking reviews first, got taught a lesson, always check reviews first. Got left with a leak that luckily i managed to fix myself, as they wouldn't answer the phone. Stay clear of these rip off merchants.
What a joke of a firm !
What a joke of a firm !
No cost offered initially to stop a leak .
Lifted floor boards , well hacked away !
Cutting a gas pipe - cadent attended , going to report these incompetent idiots !
Just under £2000 to repair a leaky pipe !
Oh and we will take the 80 year old resident to the bank to ensure they get their money !
AVOID !!!!!
Avoid at all costs
Called as had a leaking toilet - said they could call around in about an hour - a different person turned up who wasnt who i had originally spoken to - he didnt seem very confident - said it would be £47 call out and with labour and parts the total would be £250.00 - even though we supplied the washer he needed - we questioned this and he said it was the same price. He went away saying it was fixed but it wasnt - i had also asked him to email me the invoice - this came through but was someone else's invoice - i requested again and i never heard anything back. I called the main number to complain and was told "the boss" would call me back - I have never had a call back and the problem hasnt been fixed - PLEASE DO NOT USE -
AVOID at all costs. Absolute scammers.
I had a toilet leak and called George the Plumber. They promised to arrive within 30 minutes but turned up two hours later with no apology or explanation.
The car they arrived in was a normal private car, not a professional van, and they looked like cowboys. One of the plumbers who attended was called Adam.
Despite the delay and the fact the job took no more than 30 minutes, they charged me a ridiculous £1,076. Yes, it was evening, but this is pure daylight robbery—nothing short of price gouging and taking advantage of customers in an emergency.
I am absolutely furious and will be taking this matter further. Save yourself the stress, the rip-off, and the anger—use any other plumber but this dishonest company.
Do not use this scam company
Do not use this scam company !
Told me I needed to pay £489 for brand new shower - mine is only 2.5 years old and leaking a slow steady stream of water. Did not undo any of the shower to investigate - just took photos to get a price from screwfix for a new complete shower . When I said this was too expensive he offered to do a private job of £300, I again said no - he demanded a£50 payment as call out and I said I would pay when the invoice came - he informed me it would then be £60 ..
Very disappointed and upset that this was obviously a scam and as I am a single person - felt vulnerable.
Please do not use these people
If zero stars were available
If zero stars were available. Called and booked a job. Person turned up. Unable to do job as didn't have tools. Called office who 'demanded: £100 down payment so that 'we did not cancel'. Said acknowledgement and receipt would follow; it didn't. Said would come back next day. Didn't turn up at allotted time. Said colleague would be there in under two hours. No one turned up. No acknowledgement or receipt. Do not on any account use this company. Totally unprofessional and booked them because I'd been let down by someone else! Communication is lacking and I'm afraid it appears I'm out of pocket to boot!!
Very unpleasant experience
Masquerade as local company
Hard core pressure selling
Asking to pay into a different account than on the invoice
Calls on the verge of threatening
Found this uncomfortable on a business setting at home or for a vulnerable person would be very worrying
Avoid
Oh Dear absolute wrongun
Oh Dear absolute wrongun! Called with an emergency to Biggin hill. He was an hour away? pay by cash or card blah blah. Called me & said Im behind an ambulance rubbish will be at least an hour again away.
So, in short he is not local, he is NOT RELIABLE & A SCAMMER. Please do ot use this person as a reliable company Trust Pilot, it makes you look ridiculous! investigate & I shall go further with this. Ombudsmen
As a disabled lady I couldn't be…
As a disabled lady I couldn't be without my toilet facilities, the call out charge was not exactly cheap at £47, for a simple toilet repair I was charged an extortionate amount of money, but because of my disability I was made to feel that I had no choice but to have the work done. Please stay away from what can only be described as a con man preying on the vulnerable
Scammers just demand a call out charge…
Scammers just demand a call out charge when asked to do a quote claiming they were they to fix a toilet. Totally bogus and potentially linked to a bank scam that happened at the same time when supposedly refunding my money
