Years of loyalty ended in insults, excuses and feeling cheated
After many years as loyal customers, we were personally insulted, treated with utter disrespect and ultimately left feeling cheated by Europarking. This all stemmed from damage caused while our car was in their care, for which they have still refused to accept financial responsibility.
Last year, our car was involved in a rear-end collision while under Europarking's care. The damage was eventually repaired through our comprehensive insurance, but Europarking subsequently refused to reimburse the insurance excess, despite their own terms and conditions stating that this is their responsibility.
Because the original contract holder passed away this spring after a long and difficult illness, I took over the matter. His death then became their latest excuse for refusing payment, after they had already given three different reasons. Apparently, only the deceased contract holder could submit the claim.
Eventually, we were told that his widow could still pursue the claim, provided she supplied a death certificate, a certificate of executorship and a Spanish NIE number. It felt as though they were making the process so difficult that we might eventually give up, as many older foreign customers may do. And after jumping through all those hoops, we would not even receive reimbursement. We would receive a voucher instead.
All of this happened during an incredibly difficult period of grief for our family, with countless other matters requiring our attention. We never wanted to spend our time fighting over this, but the garage and insurance procedures made it impossible to simply walk away.
As the discussion became increasingly heated, Europarking also claimed that I had threatened their staff. I categorically deny this. Yes, I became angry and emotional. I was certainly sharp in my responses, but I never threatened anyone. Looking through other reviews, I notice similar references to alleged threats and warnings about recorded conversations.
Whatever. I reacted emotionally. Hardly surprising under the circumstances. Meanwhile, the owner saw fit to make remarks about "corpses" while we were dealing with the death of a loved one. That tells you something about the level of empathy we experienced.
After so many years as customers, this has been an incredibly painful way to part company. I fully expect Europarking to respond to this review with yet another explanation or accusation. As far as I'm concerned, the events described above speak for themselves.
And that voucher? They can keep it. I have a few suggestions as to where they might put it.
