Throughout the transaction, I experienced repeated failings in communication, a lack of ownership and proactive management of our case, inadequate legal advice, and what I believe was an unacceptable standard of client care.

On numerous occasions, I attempted to contact the team by telephone, only for my calls to go unanswered. When I did eventually receive a response, I often received little meaningful information about what was happening or what action was being taken.

Throughout the transaction, I repeatedly found that the only way I could obtain updates was by contacting the estate agent, who would then have to chase DC Law on our behalf.

I do not believe it should have been the responsibility of the estate agent to obtain updates from our own solicitors. We instructed DC Law to manage our sale and purchase, and we expected to be kept appropriately informed about progress, problems and the steps being taken to resolve them. There were also no regular weekly updates. Instead, communication was largely reactive and often only occurred when a problem had arisen.

When the person managing out case was on annual leave, we were not provided with clear information about who would be covering our case or how we should contact them.

As clients, we should not have been left in a position where we did not know who was responsible for progressing our matter.

I also have serious concerns regarding the quality of the legal advice provided throughout our transaction.

There were numerous occasions where emails appeared to consist of generic templates containing legal terminology without adequately explaining the actual issue, its implications, our legal position or what DC Law intended to do about it.

As clients without a legal background, we relied on our conveyancer to explain these matters to us and advise us on the appropriate course of action.

Instead, we frequently felt that we were being presented with problems and then left to work out how to deal with them.

Often documentation including our marriage certificate and other documents that had already been supplied to DC Law were repeatedly requested for.

When I questioned why we were being asked to provide these documents again, I was told that the email was simply a generic template and that we should ignore it.

This left me feeling that our file was being treated as a tick-box administrative exercise rather than being actively managed by someone familiar with our individual circumstances.
I frequently found myself:

- Chasing DC Law for updates.
- Contacting the estate agent to obtain information.
- Researching issues myself.
- Trying to establish what our legal position was.
- Seeking clarification about communications that were unclear.
- Having to identify how problems could potentially be resolved.
- Chasing responses when urgent matters arose

They demonstrate a repeated pattern involving:

- Poor and inconsistent communication.
- Lack of proactive case management.
- Failure to provide clear legal advice.
- Generic and poorly contextualised correspondence.
- Repeated requests for information that had already been provided.
- Failure to provide appropriate cover arrangements during annual leave.
- Unanswered telephone calls and an unreturned voicemail.
- Delayed responses to urgent communications.
- Lack of clear advice when significant financial demands were raised.
- Failure to make us feel that our interests were being actively represented.
- Financial costs arising during the transaction.
- A lack of empathy and appropriate client care during the failed completion.

After a not so great start with 2 other nominated reps from the company, we eventually ended up with Liam Ryan who was like a breath of fresh air, very professional, kept us well informed during the latter stages and responded quickly to any messages.

I am a widow who has been living in my current house for 47 years so the the thought of the process of moving was quite daunting but Sophie has made this experience stress free for me, the process seems to have gone very smoothly, she is always willing to explain things that I haven't understood and has been on top of things all along, I don't think I could have done it without her!

We had an amazing service from Charley, fast, efficient and extremely knowledgeable. I would highly recommend using DC Law, especially if you get Charley.

Avoid at all costs if you want a professional, timely experience with good customer service and communication. They were recommended to my son by his mortgage advisor as a first time buyer so we thought it would be an easy process, it was anything but.
Three times the same documents were lost after I had hand delivered them, calls and emails were not replied to and he was charged stamp duty when he shouldn't have been. He still has not received a reply to the email he sent last week asking for a refund.

It was terrible and please please please never use this company

I am a first time buyer and this has ruined my experience. I have had an offer accepted at the end of March, it has been nearly 5 months and still waiting for it to be finalised. Myself and the seller are not in a chain so should have taken half the time. Either there is the excuse that they are waiting for the seller or they are waiting for my paperwork that I have sent in (I do it as soon as it comes to me). I have very rarely been in contact with them and so it makes the process very slow until my mortgage advisor had to speak to their manager. They have lost paperwork many times that I have had to resend them. I have made sure that I have followed instructions that's on the paperwork that say's to put it on to your e-way account or to post it which I have. They then change their mind and want things posted and with tracking on it as well. If I will be moving again I will do my research first and find someone local that is recommended by friends and family.

The sale under probate of my uncle's shared ownership property was always going to be complex with the issue of a lease to be considered and the involvement of a buyer, a housing associaition owning the freehold and myself selling the lease. Nasreen Akhtar as my solicitor did a fantastic job, being knowledgable, calm and responsive throughout the ups and downs of the sale process. I always felt she was in control, realistic, honest and supportive and we completed the sale as smoothly as was possible. I would be very happy for her to act for me again in any future sale or purchase of property.

Cheryl was such a good communicator and very efficient. She explained every part of the process and made the sale of our late father’s home feel easier!

Communication wasn't always great.
Sometimes felt that issues weren't flagged until the last minute.
On the last few days we had Cheryl England who was absolutely brilliant! Wish we had worked with her all along! Her Communication skills were excellent and she got us over the line with my late father's house.

My experience seems similar to many of the other negative reviews, despite the form being recommended by two estate agents.

I accepted an offer for my sale and had an offer accepted for my purchase in January, we’re now in August. I’ve had 4 conveyancers in that time.

Hollie Pomford took over the handling of my sale the day before we were due to exchange and complete (10 weeks later than we should’ve) and I had more contact and communication from Hollie than the previous two conveyancers combined. I doubt we would’ve completed had it not been for Hollie.

The previous two conveyancers responded to a fraction of voicemails and emails, and when they did reply, they only responded to one point/question raised, ignoring everything else. I had to resort to daily chasing and still communication did not improve.

They were both reactive rather than proactive and needed frequent chasing from my buyer’s solicitor, who also reported they were often ignored.

The seller’s solicitor have been and continue to hold up the purchase, by failing to provide all information requested, but neither of the two previous conveyancers nor the current one handling the purchase, appear to be proactively chasing, reviewing information in a timely manner, or communicating effectively with the seller’s solicitor to expedite the matter they have all relied predominantly on written correspondence rather than verbal communication in order to achieve completion.

As a result of the lack of priority given to my case, I have had to proceed with the sale separately as it was at significant risk of collapse. This has meant temporary accommodation and storage costs, not to mention the unbelievable additional stress over and above what would ordinarily be stressful enough.

We are still no closer to completion as the two solicitors firm cannot communicate effectively to ensure all required information is provided.

I accept the additional complexities when management companies are involved, but this is still something that conveyancers deal with every day and should be competent enough to work together to manage. There have been other apartments sold and completed in the same building in the time I have been waiting to complete.

I intend to submit a formal complaint.

I would like to personally thank Lisa for her kind assistance on Friday afternoon. There was an error made by another solicitor, and the case was not one of her files. She took the call professionally and acted to resolve the error promptly. I would like to pass on my thanks for her kind assistance, as she went out of her way to help fix another colleagues error, and her help did not go unnoticed.
