Not the best experience
I stayed at the Clayton Manchester Airport. On the plus side, the hotel is close to the terminals and runs a free shuttle service. The room was clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was reasonable.
However;
There is no air conditioning (this was in the June heatwave)
The internet connection in the room didn’t work most of the time.
I visited the bar for a pint and a snack. Although there were almost more staff than customers (the staff were mainly talking to each other and ignored customers arriving), it took 15 minutes for my pint to arrive.
Would I stay here again? Probably not.
Noise in hotel room.
My friends & I usually try to pick a Clayton hotel to stay in, no matter where we're off to. This time we chose The Clayton Cardiff Lane. The staff for the most part were top class, especially a lady called Diana who works in the bar.
My problem was the room I stayed in. There was a waste water pipe running over head 24/7. It was impossible to sleep. I did speak to the front desk & I was offered a change of room but as we were only staying 1 more night & this was 8pm I felt that changing rooms at that stage would have been too much bother. My problem is how my enquiry was handled. How I had to follow up said enquiry myself, as no one came to explain what was causing the running water sound in the room. And how, when I chose not to move I was told that if I wanted to speak to the floor manager, she might give me something for free. I felt like I was being patronised & treated like some sort of scammer, trying to get freebies from the hotel. My enquiry was a legitimate one but I honestly feel that it was handled with disrespect.
shocking clayton hotels at manchester…
shocking clayton hotels at manchester airport, we had 3 customers staying at the hotel we were in the car park for 10 min and got hit with a £100 fine. We have spent £1000s and £1000 at this place for staff and customers. I phone up to speak to the manager who hung up twice with no help.
We have removed this hotel from our company booking list. shocking.
Come here if you want to be sweaty and naked
This hotel seems determined to occupy a fascinating niche in the hospitality market: charging premium prices while delivering the experience of a budget chain having an off day.
Our troubles began before we even arrived. Apparently, the room we'd booked did not include bathrobes or slippers. This was not obvious when booking, and when we asked for some, we were told we could buy them, except there weren't any available to buy. Impressive. I've stayed in countless hotels, and this is the first time I've encountered a "luxury" property where robes appear to be a mythical creature.
The room itself came with air conditioning, which sounds wonderful until you discover it automatically switches itself off at midnight. As we were staying during summer, this created a delightful nightly game: stay awake until midnight to reactivate it, or wake up sweating at 3am and do it then. The room also lacked a fridge, another detail that wasn't highlighted during booking. Normally this would be manageable, except the ice machine (the only source of anything remotely cold) was broken throughout our stay. The result was a masterclass in discomfort: warm room, warm drinks, warm tempers.
To compensate, we were "upgraded" to a room with three beds. Unless the hotel thought we were expecting surprise guests, I'm not entirely sure why. I'd gladly have traded the extra bed for a robe, a fridge, or functioning climate control.
Housekeeping provided another memorable experience. Our room wasn't cleaned on the first day, and when we returned at 5pm, we were informed that staff had simply been too busy. We asked whether cleaning could be done after 7pm, but apparently this was impossible. Instead, staff arrived while we were showering: an awkward situation made even better by the complete absence of robes. The following morning, I was informed that the room not being cleaned was actually my fault because we'd turned housekeeping away at 6:30pm the previous evening. It's rare to see customer service so confidently redefine reality.
Breakfast was included in the price, although after a couple of visits we stopped attending voluntarily. The eggs in particular were memorable for all the wrong reasons. The sole bright spot was a new waiter who was friendly, professional, and seemed to be operating under a belief not held by the rest of the staff that guests should be treated well.
The most frustrating part is that the location is fantastic. Unfortunately, that's about the only thing this hotel has going for it. Next time I'd happily stay at the Grand up the road or even a Travelodge. One may be less expensive and the other more expensive, but at least with both you know what you're getting. Here, the greatest luxury on offer appears to be lowered expectations.
I had a wonderful time at this hotel…
I had a wonderful time at this hotel (Dublin Liffey valley) the staff were absolutely amazing, friendly, welcoming & always willing to help with anything we needed. They really made the experience feel special. The food was also delicious. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for excellent service & food.
How the mighty fall
How the mighty fall. This hotel whilst front of house an bar look amazing and food is excellent that is where it seems to stop now.
Book room prior to and after trip with parking. Both rooms 234 and 313 were in need of refurb and a good deep clean. Rotting wood at the base of both bathroom doors just for starters. This used to be a lovely hotel, seems no care and attention to maintenance any more.
As for the shuttle service do yourselves a favour and go somewhere else. They no longer book seats so its a free for all with people standing in the bus when it clearly states people should be seated. baggage moving about, some very elderly people unable to manage their own baggage due to the set up on the bus. return shuttle what a bad joke at 12.45 am to leave people waiting for 45 minutes with promises from reception that he was on his way. it took literally 10 minutes from pick up to the clayton front door so no idea where he was coming from. some very cold passengers and no apology or explaination offered.
never again
3 Star Hotel not 4 - Manchester City Centre
I booked through work expecting a 4‑star experience, but what I received felt closer to 2–3 stars. On arrival, the receptionist struggled to engage in basic conversation and didn’t make me feel welcome.
When I reached my room, I discovered I’d been placed in an accessible room. I called reception and was told that all “Deluxe” rooms on that floor had disabled facilities. I later learned that colleagues who booked the same room type did not have wheelchair‑style showers or lowered sinks, so the explanation I was given was untrue.
The shower tiles were also loose, suggesting poor maintenance. Breakfast was fine, but again the staff seemed disengaged.
When checking out, I was asked about my stay and gave honest feedback. I was told the manager would contact me, but I’ve heard nothing since.
Overall, a disappointing stay — and if I were paying personally, I wouldn’t choose this hotel.
I cannot believe the terrible service…
I cannot believe the terrible service and manner’s at Clayton Hotels Dublin. I stayed at the airport central hotel and everything from check in to service was horrendous.
I would never stay again. Pathetic attempt at Irish hospitality.
Poor service tonight on shuttle…
Poor service tonight on shuttle transfer from the airport back to the hotel. Told a few minutes and ended up waiting 45 minutes with a coach driving straight past us. Communication was poor- not the right area of business to have such delays without quality updates when onward travel is then impacted.
Good as the Bewley not anymore !.
Booked the Clayton hotel at Manchester Airport for an overnight stay for a flight to the US .
Not cheap , they even charged me twice !.
We'd stayed there before !.
Arrived checked in .Arrived at Room 107 that had a "lived in
feel".
Chips in the sink . Went for a meal £75 for two .
Got the same meal and found tons of fragments of bone through the dish .
Paid up and left .
Noticed a draught in the room . So went to the window and found the hinges on the upvc had snapped off and had been poorly pushed together wind was coming in a the air conditioning were noisy . Heard ever single flight coming in and going to close to midnight .
Don't think ill stay there again .
Stayed at the Clayton city centre hotel…
Stayed at the Clayton city centre hotel last night and it was honestly the worst night of my life. I stayed in 917 above the Thompson bar on St Patrick’s night and didn’t get any sleep. The noise was awful. The staff are lovely and it’s clean and acceptable but oh my god I’ve had to work all day with no sleep!!!
Clayton Hotel Belfast
Very disappointing stay.
My friend originally booked a room for two people, but we called the hotel in advance to let them know there would actually be three of us. We were told no changes were needed as the room could already accommodate three people. I even double-checked that the room had two beds (a double and a single) and was assured that it did.
When we arrived, the room only had one double bed, which clearly wasn’t suitable for three adults. The condition of the room was also very poor — the carpet had what looked like blood stains, there were hairs around the sink and even in the glasses, and the toilet had orange stains. The walls also had visible patches and drill holes which made the room look poorly maintained.
As we were rushing to attend an event, we had to go back to reception to sort this out. The receptionist said he wasn’t sure who we had spoken to previously and that there were no triple rooms available, so the only option was to pay for an additional room. The rate for the night was just under £300, which I find extremely expensive for the condition of the rooms. To be fair, the receptionist did manage to reduce the additional room to £125 and tried to help where he could.
I travel a lot for work and have stayed in Clayton hotels across the country many times with good experiences, which is why this stay was so disappointing. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would think twice about staying here again.
I liked our stay in Amsterdam
I liked our stay at the Clayton in Amsterdam. The only odd things was the bathroom sink right next to the door, what on earth happened that hotels think this is ok? It could be easily fixed with a nice bar and curtain between the bed and the sinks... Oddly enough there was an entire bathroom with privacy, a large shower, but a tiny sink with no space, so why didn't they combine this? No need for three sinks for a two person room anyway. That being said, it was a safe haven from the city, because Amsterdam wasn't a good experience overall. I loved the breakfast room. The square isn't as nice as it is in pictures. Graffiti, trash, homeless.

Stayed here in the Clayton Sligo last weekend as part of a large group - 132 of us on a charity car Cannonball run. I think every one of us, agreed how nice the hotel was, great staff, safe spacious parking for our cars, food was awesome - I had the featherblade beef and it was to die for... Bit of a walk to my room with the long corridors but overall 5 star experience!
We arrived at Clayton Hotel
We arrived at Clayton Hotel, Manchester Airport, Room 27 today.
The room was freezing cold. It is 6 degrees outside.
I complained to reception 3 times. The maintenance person finally arrived and heating was actually switched off! There is nothing to indentify the switch.
We are still waiting for the room to get warm.
Extremely dissatisfied with my visit.
Wonderful way to start your holiday!
We had a wonderful experience staying at the Clayton Hotel at Manchester Airport, the service was excellent especially Alex in the restaurant who really made us feel comfortable and relaxed.
The staff in the bar area were also very welcoming and efficient.
Freezing temperatures and blood stained room
We recently stayed at Clayton Chiswick. At first it looked ok and all went smoothly on check in. We went to our room to drop bags off and on entering room 905 the room was a little warm which was nice as it was freezing outside. However it was a little too warm so I turned the heating down from 29 to 23. We then went out for the evening. When we returned the room had cooled and was ok. The next morning the room was very cold and the water in the bathroom was also cold. We turned the thermostat back up and went out for the day. When we returned that evening the room was freezing cold. We called reception and they sent a guy and he changed the settings on the thermostat and said it would take about an hour to heat up. That was about 8:45pm. We were tired and fell asleep before the hour was up. By about 1-2am I woke with a chronic migraine and major nose bleed and the room was freezing cold. I eventually fell asleep a couple of hours later but was in no fit state to call reception. First thing that morning we went to reception and were moved to another room. Room 1005 was warm and the thermostat worked ok. However that night we found the bed sheets and quilt to blood stained, there was also blood in the bathroom and the floor had been polished so much that we both slipped! We again had to speak to reception who apologised made the the changes to the room gave us a £50 refund and a free breakfast. Although the gesture was nice it did not make up for the disappointment and disruption we had. I would not recommend staying at this hotel ever.
WDisappointing and Unfair Treatment of Disabled Guestse stayed at Clayton Hotel Manchester…
We stayed at Clayton Hotel Manchester Airport with our family on 4th January. We had booked a family room along with Drop & Go parking and arrived with a disabled badge.
When we arrived, the parking barrier opened automatically. We drove to the front of the hotel and parked in the disabled area to unload our luggage. There was no clear information visible about parking rules or time limits, so we took our bags inside to check in and collect the room keys.
At reception, I specifically asked about the parking. I was told they needed our number plate, which my husband went back to the car to get. We explained that we were unloading luggage and were parked in the disabled bay. Nothing further was said to us.
We then went straight up to our room, dropped off our bags, came back down, and took our car across the road to Drop & Go parking. The barrier opened without issue and no warnings were given.
Yesterday, we received a £60 parking fine from Clayton. When I called to query this, I was told that guests are only allowed 5 minutes to unload. Five minutes for a disabled guest to park, unload luggage, walk into the hotel, wait at reception, go to the room, and return to the car is completely unreasonable.
I was told this is “policy” and that nothing could be done because the hotel would have to pay the £60 themselves. I was also told there are “many signs” explaining the 5-minute rule, but I genuinely did not see any — which is exactly why I asked at reception in the first place.
To say I am disgusted is an understatement. This policy is shocking for any guest, but especially for disabled guests. Clayton’s refusal to cancel the fine shows a complete lack of understanding, compassion, and accessibility.
I would strongly advise disabled travellers and families to think very carefully before staying here.
Chaotic
Stayed in Clayton hotel grand canal.
One night stay.
Had meal booked for 5.30pm.
Thinking we had plenty of time for show in Bord Gais 7.30pm.
Our order taken quickly.
Took 45mins for course to come out.
main meal came before starter.
Had to wait for starter after main taken back.
We had to call waitress for desert as time was pushing on and we were running late to get to show.
It was a very stressful chaotic atmosphere in restaurant.
Room were clean , breakfast ok.
