I had a query about my visit
I had a query about my visit, but getting through to anyone was almost impossible. The phone was rarely answered, and messages were not returned.
When I finally managed to get through, the staff were unhelpful. When I eventually attended in person, the onsite staff were equally unfriendly and unhelpful.
I then made a complaint and, unsurprisingly, “unhelpful” seems to be the theme running throughout the entire experience.
Very disappointing customer service from start to finish. When a customer has to work this hard simply to get a response, something clearly needs to change.
Food was good though - no fault with that - but the experience was already marred.
Sunday evening carvery in Sutton Park
Sunday evening carvery in Sutton Park. Virtually empty restaurant. £26 per head expected substantially better than a Toby. Tepid gravy, hard roast potatoes, inedible vegetables - awful. Complaint barely acknowledged. Avoid.
Give it a miss
The food was very disappointing. I ordered the lamb shepherd’s pie and, despite it being described as a lamb dish, I only found two pieces of lamb in the whole meal.
The drinks were also extremely expensive — £14 for a glass of wine is difficult to justify, especially when the food was so disappointing.
The service was the one positive. The lady serving us was very nice and friendly.
Unfortunately, with so many good restaurants in Liverpool, I wouldn’t recommend wasting a night here. There are plenty of better options.
Coeliac eater was left disappointed
Coeliac eater was left disappointed! Previously I wrote a glowing 5 star review about Browns Ruislip when Claudia was chef. In the interests of balance and fairness I need to sadly share our most recent experience this week. Unfortunately the coeliac eater was left disappointed. Menu uninspired. Roast - not available at 6.50 pm as it had ran out! And the vegetables uncooked despite returning broccoli twice. And the apple crumble - just crumble with little apple and this hard. So disappointed we eat there regularly. Come on Browns! Waitressing excellent.
Disappointing Roast Dinner @ Browns West India Key
Went to Browns in West India Quay yesterday with a friend for a roast dinner that we’d been looking forward to, as neither of us had had one in ages. We ordered the beef roast with cauliflower cheese and creamed spinach, but had to send the food back twice. The spinach was completely uncooked, the vegetables were underdone, and the roast potatoes seemed boiled rather than roasted. It was a real letdown. On top of that, they didn’t ask about allergies when taking our order, so my friend had a reaction and we had to head home, with her spending the evening unwell. Definitely not the experience we’d hoped for.
Afternoon Tea at Browns
treated our nan to afternoon tea at Browns in Bristol & our server, Ella, was lovely! checked in with us made sure everything was okay and was really nice. all the staff were really lovely. thank you to all of Browns x
Dinner out for the two of us
Dinner out for the two of us. It was just very disappointing. Browns is on the higher range to pricing but the service does not reflect this. This was Exeter. The whole meal was just rushed. Our main course arrived as we were still eating our starters. Just poor overall

The location is lovely and the rests is stylish . The bar prices are slightly higher than average.
The food was disappointing.
My starter was Beetroot and Apple tartare - a really sharp dressing with too much pepper . Barely any apple / just a pile of small beetroot chunks. A few croutons (3) and a few (3) slices of radish. Unpleasant.
The main I chose was steak frites … the waitress didn’t point out that there was a £5 surcharge (although it is in small print on the menu) - my poor sight missed that.
The steak was dropped on a small portion of unpeeled fries. A small garnish of watercress with a very salty sauce ( which I was told the chef doesn’t make i- it comes to them ready made)
The steak itself was grey ( not properly seared) and not good quality - the whole plate was not appetising.
Sorry Browns - not the standard I’ve had previously so won’t be back.
We arrived for an afternoon tea to…
We arrived for an afternoon tea to celebrate a retirement and it was so disappointing. The food they served was of a very poor standard. We had prebooked an afternoon tea but the sandwiches were stale and this is after they had called to take our order. They were not busy and there was no need to ring in an order for 2 people. The waitress had said it was pre prepared which is strange as it was just for 2 people. They remade 2 of the sandwiches however the rest of the savoury collection was also very stale. We told them we were unhappy and they said they wouldn’t charge us. We were thinking well of course seeing as we haven’t eaten anything. Overall very disappointing experience and would not recommend this restaurant.
Style over substance if you like stale bread go ahead!
Apparently browns restaurant are not interested in customers reviews they just ignore them. Which says a lot !
Pre booked Bluewater for birthday afternoon tea as I have an allergy.
Arrived on time and shown to table. Waiter was kind and efficient however let down by process. Table preset and cups were cold. Waiter changed the cups on request.pots of tea arrive then we waited more than 10 mins for the tray of cakes and savouries. Savoury consisted of finger sandwiches. Given we pre booked our sandwiches were dry on the top slice and the bottom slice was soaked with contents this tells me they were NOT freshly made but sat for hours! The selection was un imaginative:-cheese and pickle , egg Mayo, ham and a walnut slice with some white stuff wrapped in cucumber. Nice? NO.
The individual scones were at least warm, the accompanying jams cream and cake were acceptable.
On request the stewed cold pots of tea were replaced.
In summary “Style over substance” would be my view. Not in any way a delightful experience
If you’re a woman on your own, you’re invisible
Bath restaurant review.
What is it with restaurant staff failing, in their duty, to provide an acceptable and adequate level of hospitality and service?
A woman in my early 70s, formerly in a legal profession, I have officially become invisible.
Left waiting in a corner forever, before I summoned the energy to go to the front desk to remind them I was still waiting!
A table of 3 who came in after me was served almost immediately and a walk in table of 2, likewise. Not a good start.
Food was adequate, drinks the same and service, see comments above.
Funny, they didn’t seem too happy that I wouldn’t pay the automatically added service charge!
Avoid Cambridge! Terrible experience.
We were really disappointed with our visit to Browns Cambridge.
We ordered the surf and turf, but unfortunately the lobster was overcooked and rubbery. My girlfriend ordered her steak medium rare, but it arrived extremely overcooked—honestly one of the most well-done “medium rare” steaks we’ve ever been served.
To make matters worse, we were asked if we wanted water, said yes, and bottled water kept being brought to the table. We weren’t made aware of the price, and ended up with a surprisingly expensive charge for water, which left a sour taste at the end of the meal.
For the prices Browns charges, we expected a much higher standard of food and service. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience, and unfortunately we wouldn’t return or recommend it based on our visit.
The waitress was very helpful
The waitress was very helpful, but the restaurant in Hemel Hempstead was understaffed. The cost of the food was high. There was no chicken (?) and so the alternative was the ribs on their own (I usually have the combo) and although tasty the cost was very high - 21.99 plus £5 for meat! The chips were not nice, although my badger enjoyed them. Pudding was extra as apparently it worked out more reasonable than the set menu for what I chose. £33 altogether.
Went into browns Nottingham Friday 26…
Went into browns Nottingham Friday 26 June 2026 for a nice evening of cocktails and food. It was meant to be a nice relaxing evening and turned out to be anything but! I keep getting all the bumf emails with there EXCITING offers and when you try to use the qr code there all tied up in their bullshit terms and conditions its absolutely not worth the hassle. The staff are right up their own arses and what they all need is a reality check!!
I for one will never set foot in a brown s establishment ever again!!!
Service was excellent, shame about the food
Service was excellent. Venue very attractive. Sadly, the food was worse than mediocre. How do you mess up a crumble? Tasteless, especially the crumble topping itself. Caesar salad - not a proper caesar dressing, mostly mayonnaise. Did not want to give up on Browns, a Bristol institution, but they must improve their food to survive. I won't be back.
Disappointed experience
We visited Browns Manchester during a very quiet period, on a Friday lunch time.
I expected the food and drinks to be at their best. Unfortunately, it was an underwhelming experience overall.
The cocktails lacked attention to detail. For example, the Limoncello Spritz was served without the rosemary that was listed as part of the drink, which made it feel incomplete.
The food was even more disappointing. The scallops from the seafood platter for two, were undercooked.
Still blue! Not even cooked at least 2 minutes per side.
The Devon crab on toast was particularly unpleasant and lacked freshness and flavour. I've spent considerably less at a restaurant in London called ‘Fish’ and received a mixture of white and dark crab meat and far better quality.
The biggest let-down was the surf and turf. The lobster was extremely poor in texture and consistency, to the point that it was unappetising. (Looked like snot and clearly cooked from frozen not fresh)
While the service was fine and the restaurant was quiet, the quality of the food simply didn't justify the price.
Harsh but sadly true!
Browns at Liverpool
The food was excellent. But in addition to that our waitress, Rachael went above and beyond, attentive, chatty, there, but not there. She, along with the meal made the whole dining experience at Browns in Liverpool memorable. Thanks Rachael!
Don't bother
Poor service.
Staff couldn't care less.
Tables stacked with dirty pots.
Food average.
Ruined celebration.
Browns St Martins Lane awful food indifferent staff
Browns St Martins Lane the Sunday brunch was very poor quality. The avocado was tainted by a ghastly dressing while the waiter insisted it had nothing on it - and he looked at my friend's pin number while he entered it on their card machine. The added service charge was an insult. A good restaurant would have replaced my meal but the staff were indifferent.
