We hired two 4x4 double cab Toyota Hilux!
am extremely dissatisfied with the experience I had with Britz Car Rental South Africa. From the very beginning, it was a nightmare. They had nobody to meet us at the airport, and no transport was arranged for our group of seven. This left us stranded and frustrated right from the start.
When we finally arrived at the 4x4 depot, things didn't get any better. There was a delay of 1.5 hours because they had not installed the fridge we had pre-booked, and the vehicles were not equipped with border crossing and safety equipment as promised. These delays set a terrible tone for our entire trip.
To make matters worse, we were given two dangerous vehicles that were far from legally roadworthy. The state of these vehicles was shocking. The entire front bumper fell off one of them, and it was clear that these vehicles had been in previous accidents. It looked like they had attempted to make repairs using wood screws and masking tape!
But the issues didn't stop there. We had to endure a high-pitched continuous whistling sound for the entire duration of our drive. This came from the 15 holes drilled in the roof of the vehicles for the rooftop tents. These holes were never properly sealed, and the noise was so unbearable that we had to purchase earplugs.
The troubles continued with the fridge, which stopped working after just 24 hours of rental. We paid a significant amount for this fridge, and it was a complete waste of money. Then, one of the vehicle's batteries died, leaving us stranded three hours away from any town. We had to improvise a solution, using the battery from the broken fridge.
As if all of this wasn't enough, the back door on the pickup truck they provided had a sliding drawer system for our gear. However, the door wouldn't open, which meant we had no access to our camera equipment for the first 48 hours on a private game reserve with clients from the USA. This meant they missed out on capturing memories from their first-ever safari.
We immediately contacted Britz for help, but their response was shocking. Despite numerous calls and emails, their customer care refused to address our issues or make any effort to reinstate or reimburse us for the loss of days, experiences, and memories.
This level of service is completely unacceptable, especially for travel agents and clients from abroad who trust Britz for a safe and enjoyable experience. I strongly advise anyone considering their services to think twice.
