Had a really disappointing experience…
Had a really disappointing experience here today. Sharing because I was convinced by all of the 5* reviews.
I arrived at 4pm on the dot but wasn’t seen until around 4:20–4:25. This delay appeared to be due to another client who was visibly upset about her colour ahead of a wedding that weekend. In hindsight, that should have been a red flag and I wish I’d trusted my instincts and left at that point.
After eventually being seen, I clearly explained that I wanted a slightly darker brown than my current colour, with the reddish tones removed. Despite this, it was already 4:45 before the colour was even applied. While it was developing, I flagged that my roots looked like they were lifting (going lighter/orange) rather than going darker as requested. I was reassured it was just the lighting and told to leave it for 35 minutes.
After 40 minutes had passed, I had to prompt another stylist to have it washed off and when I returned to my chair it was immediately obvious that my roots were orange. I raised this concern, only to be told it was looking “glowy” and that a toner would fix it.
At this point, I explained how unhappy I was and that I didn’t understand how my colour had lifted when I had specifically asked to go darker. I was reassured that this was not the case. After further dye and toner were applied, hours had passed and we had run so far over time that I no longer had time for the cut I had booked. By then, I had also completely lost confidence in the stylist.
I eventually cut my losses and left extremely upset. On the way home I was in tears as my hair colour is not what I asked for at all, and I’m due to go on holiday the tomorrow so have no time to get it fixed. Not only this but I flagged that my hair condition didn’t feel good & I was assured that the type of dye used couldn’t damage hair.
To make matters worse, when I got home and tried to run my hands through my hair, I discovered a section that still had loads of shampoo left in it. After washing it again myself, my hair just felt like straw. I’ve since had to spend a long time applying leave-in conditioner and treatments just to make it manageable so I can brush through it.
I’ve been getting my hair coloured for years without issue and usually leave with a cool-toned brown and healthy, silky hair. Since moving, I decided to try somewhere new - something I now deeply regret. This was a complete waste of time and I’m now heading off on holiday with damaged hair and orange roots, feeling really upset.
No idea how long it will take to get my hair back to how it was but I can’t imagine it’s going to be a quick or cheap process.
Tinting already brown hair a slightly darker shade of brown, and removing warmth, should surely be one of the most simple jobs in hairdressing. To get this so, so wrong, and to end up with the complete opposite of what I had asked for it just beyond me.
Definitely be cautious about this salon. I had a good hair cut with Aimee not too long ago, but my experience with colour with a different stylist has completely put me off.

Goodbye Sparkly Bits — Thank You, Borislava!
I visit the Brixton branch of Blue Tit every two weeks for a root tint, and I’m always looked after by one of the talented assistants. I started with Jada, then Katie (both brilliant… and then they go and qualify!), and yesterday I had Borislava for the first time — I was not disappointed.
Borislava was absolutely lovely. Her bubbly personality immediately put me at ease; she kept me entertained the whole time and even poured me a G&T and brought me a bowl of popcorn — so appreciated. Most importantly, she did a fantastic job covering all my “sparkly bits” (as Michael calls them!).
Honestly, I was a bit sad to leave, which probably says it all. A wonderful lady doing a fab job. Thanks so much, Borislava! xx

Great experience
I had a great haircut restyle experience with Luke. He listened to everything I wanted and consulted me along the way, I trusted him and felt like I was in really good hands and I'm thrilled with how my hair turned out. Will definitely be booking back in!
First visit to Blue Tit Hammersmith
I had a great experience at Blue Tit in Hammersmith. I was in London visiting my daughter & desperately needed a hair cut so popped in to see if I could get an appointment, which luckily I could a couple of hours later. This was a very brave thing to do as I have been going to the same hairdresser in Scotland for 25 years & I was pretty nervous about trying someone else! However, Leanne completely put me at ease, listened carefully to what I wanted & then did a brilliant job! The hair salon itself is lovely & calm so all in all it was a very good experience. A week later & back in Scotland, & I am really happy with my hair. I will definitely visit Leanne again if I am doing a London trip.

I was seen by Holly for a fringe trim. I wouldn't want anyone else to cut my hair. When I have a full haircut by Holly my hair looks wonderful. It's always a pleasure to see her. She is lovely and extremely talented.

A great curly cut with Melenia at Hammersmith

Absolute nightmare
Worst salon experience of my life, no exaggeration. TLDR: I spent £81 to get my hair ruined by a trainee at Blue Tit Peckham and the salon has refused to do anything to rectify it because they say she is a trainee and nothing to do with them. Now I have to spend hundreds to get another salon to fix it.
I hardly ever write reviews but I’m so upset and shocked by the way I’ve been treated. I booked with a vardering trainee stylist and she confirmed that half-head balayage was the right service for the look I wanted. I emphasised I wanted something very subtle and natural on my brown hair and sent her a reference photo from her own Instagram account of a previous client, which she said was achievable. The process was unexpectedly painful and damaging to my hair, as the trainee pulled hard and backcombed strands. I also had fumes from the dye stinging my eyes, which I’ve never had before in a salon or with box dye at home in the past.
The results are absolutely awful. I was shocked as she dried it and didn’t know what to say. I have horrible yellow and orange toned stripy highlights which look terrible with my colouring. It looks nothing like the reference picture I provided. There is no blending whatsoever and it bears no resemblance to balayage. The demarcation between my roots looks dreadful and so harsh, like a bad home dye job. There are randomly loads more highlights on the right side of my head. (I wanted to add pictures to this review but don't think it's possible on Trustpilot. However, I have added photos to my Google Maps review of Blue Tit Peckham).
I had thought being a hair model for a trainee meant they were under supervision from more experienced colleagues and this kind of thing couldn’t happen, but she was under no supervision whatsoever. I went to the café next door and thought I was going to cry. I returned to the salon and the only person around was the trainee. She offered to put lowlights in the following week but I can no longer trust her with my hair. I didn’t even realise how bad the colour was until I got home (as she hadn’t shown me the back with a mirror), and particularly when I woke up the next day and saw it in daylight.
So I phoned the salon and very politely asked my hair to be rectified by someone more experienced. They said they cannot do this because she is a trainee with Blue Tit Academy and essentially nothing to do with them (!) She just works there. This is completely unfathomable to me. The whole reason I entrusted my hair with this trainee in the first place was because of Blue Tit’s reputation for a high calibre of service. I could never have imagined that vardering trainees just work independently in Blue Tit salons, and that Blue Tit Peckham would take no responsibility whatsoever for a stylist working in their own salon. I may as well have just paid a random stranger on the internet £81 to ruin my hair. They said they would escalate my complaint to the academy. They could not give me any assurances that my hair will be fixed by an experienced stylist; they said it might be another vardering trainee (quite frankly, I do not want to risk losing all my hair). I have also separately emailed Blue Tit HQ's general customer service to complain.
Four days after my appointment with the trainee, I haven’t heard anything from Blue Tit, nor have I been given a number I can call. I feel like I’ve paid a lot of money to be a guinea pig for someone who is clearly not ready to be working unsupervised with clients. I haven’t felt able to leave my home without wearing a hat. As someone who doesn’t have a lot of hair following chemo and radiotherapy, it’s also deeply upsetting how much this has damaged my hair – it now has loads of split ends, it looks and feels like straw, and is much thinner overall. I feel I've been given no choice but to book a colour correction at a reliable salon for tomorrow costing hundreds of pounds, and as a low earner this is going to be a big struggle for me.

They are all great hairdressers but the prices are ridiculous. It's way too expensive and unfortunately there's little competition in the area so a lot of us have no choice but to go there!

Abbie at the Clapton Salon did my hair and I love it! She spoke to me in depth about everything that I wanted (colour and cut) and it turned out exactly how I wanted it. She was lovely and friendly, will definitely be returning:)

Gemma has done my hair twice now and I always walk out feeling amazing. Her blowdrys are incredible and always cheer me up. They last for a really good amount of time and she gets the best volume out of my hair. Can't recommend her enough!!
