After numerous failed attempts to get the JVC Apple CarPlay system working properly in my VW T5.1 Transporter, I had reached the point of complete frustration. I had already wasted an enormous amount of time with the first company, repeatedly trying different parts, wiring solutions and advice that never solved the problem.

What made it worse was that the first company eventually told me that what I wanted simply was not achievable. I wanted all the modern features of the new JVC system, but I also wanted it to behave like the original VW radio—remaining on after the ignition was switched off and only turning off when the key was removed.

I then contacted Gavin at Audio Boffins and explained everything. Unlike the first company, he did not dismiss the idea or tell me to accept a compromise. He listened carefully, understood exactly how I wanted the system to work and stuck with the problem.

By selecting the correct CANBUS interface and linking cable, Gavin achieved exactly what I had been told could not be done. The stereo now works perfectly, with all the modern Apple CarPlay features while still behaving like the original VW unit.

After all the wasted time, frustration and failed attempts with the first company, Gavin’s knowledge, patience and determination made all the difference.

Yet again I've found the after sales support excellent. At times like many people I struggle to remember how to do things with my devices which aren't necessarily used very often. Today not only did I get hands on demonstrations to help but also update of firmware in my Dash cam system (Thinkware 500), reinstallation of my phone app. and explanations of why things are done in particular ways and advice on what isn't quite right with my car's systems and causes for example blank screen areas for no good reason, which can leave you wondering what you've done wrong or what to do. Cars and electronic devices are so functionally powerful yet, often difficult to make sense of. It's good to have personal guidance from confident knowledgeable professionals. That's what I like about audio boffins and always considerate service.

First class service from Gavin at Audio Boffins. What this guy doesn't know about the sience of sound regarding in car entertainment, is probably not worth knowing. Great communication from day one of my enquiry. He was able to provide upgrade recommendations for my 320D at various budgets. Having selected a relatively low end upgrade due to affordability, I was amazed at the sound quality of the system they provided. The new performance is incredible. He provided images and updates during the install and completed the work within a few hours. The attention to detail was second to none. Theres no sign they've actually been in there. I will definitely be heading back again for an addition the the current system upgrade to replace my standard door speakers for something incredible. Had a CarPlay upgrade added to my old car by a different company - no sound when on sat nav - the person who installed it said there were no issues and most people drive without the sound . Luckily I contacted Audio Boffins who got me in the next day - they managed to locate the problem and fix it very quickly -thanks so much - lovely work and knowledgeable people who go out their way to help ( should have gone there to start with )

I can’t recommend Audio Boffins highly enough. They carried out a full audio upgrade on my BMW 7 Series and a front speaker upgrade on my Porsche Taycan Turbo S, and the results have genuinely exceeded my expectations.
From the very first conversation, Gavin was a pleasure to deal with — professional, knowledgeable, and refreshingly honest about what would make the biggest difference and what wasn’t necessary. He talked me through the options clearly, answered all my questions without any sales pressure, and made sure the solution was tailored to each car rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
The sound in the BMW is now on a completely different level — cleaner, richer, and far more detailed, with proper balance and clarity at every volume. And even with the “smaller” upgrade on the Taycan, the improvement is immediately noticeable: better definition, more presence up front, and a much more enjoyable listening experience without losing that factory look and feel.
What really stood out was the overall service: great communication, punctuality, and immaculate workmanship. Everything feels properly integrated and finished to a high standard, and the cars were treated with real care throughout the process.
If you’re considering an audio upgrade and want it done properly by people who clearly take pride in their work, Audio Boffins (and Gavin in particular) are the team to use. I’ll absolutely be going back for anything audio-related in future. I feel bad just leaving a single review when both cars deserve their own.

They're a really good team - willing to spend time helping you choose what's best for you. Then the work quality is excellent. Highly recommendef. (For me, infotainment upgraded to Android Auto in a 2014 Audi, a sub woofer and two dashcams.)

Gavin's advice prior to deciding what option to go for in enhancing the sound system in my JCW Countryman was first class. His communication during the fit was spot on and the resulting music in my car from my enhanced audio system is magnificent. Thoroughly recommended.
