Wolfburn is a multi-award-winning whisky distillery on the north coast of mainland Scotland. Building work commenced in the summer of 2012 and Wolfburn was reopened after some 150 years in early 2013. In 1821 William Smith founded a distillery on the outskirts of Thurso and named it Wolfburn after the watercourse it drew from, “burn” being the Scots word for stream or small river. The distillery was constructed from hardy local Caithness flagstone and the remains of its foundations can still be seen today. Smith invested heavily in Wolfburn and it quickly became a significant producer of malt whisky – tax records from the early 19th Century show it being the largest distillery in Caithness. In 1826 its annual production was 28,056 “Total Gallons of Proof Spirt” – roughly 125,000 litres. The new Wolfburn distillery building is just a short walk along the burn from the old site towards the sea. A mixture of ex-bourbon casks and ex-Olorosso sherry butts have been used so far in the maturation of this aromatic, mildly smokey delicious Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Our master craftsmen fashion their whisky the same way it has always been made: by hand, using only the finest ingredients, and without haste. Now available worldwide in over 38 countries.

Wonderful small distillery which makes it very unquie to others in Scotland. Wilma was very knowledgeable and lovely would definitely recommend. And we bought some whisky for my grandad who said he thinks it's the best he has ever tasted. Definitely worth a visit

A Complete Package.
Wolfburn have developed the complete package, strong graphics, elegant bottles and of course beautiful whisky. For me my favourite is Morven, a subtle but flavoursome peaty whisky.

What a lovely visit
What a lovely visit. I’ve done plenty of distillery tours. I’d highly recommend a visit. I asked about the cask strength and ended up pouring my own bottle. You won’t get this anywhere else.

Extraordinary Experience!
By coincidence we found this wonderful distillery while we were driving through the Scottish Highlands. We had a great tour with Wilma, who explained everything you need to know about Whisky and the tour ended with a tasting of seven (!) Whiskys. Of course we bought the Aurora that we opened just last night back in Germany. While sipping it the memories of Wolfburn in Thurso came back. Lovely tour, great Whisky. When you’re up North this distillery is a must!

The Wolfburn Whiskey tour is a must do if you're in the local area. A very young distillery and it was great to have a real insight in the early process and how they are growing. Very knowledgeable tour guide and really friendly. Plus the taster at the end are always great!
