easy pick up and drop off from melbourne
The van itself was great for the money but I didn't feel the penis's spray painted on the storage units was needed.
It has been over a month since we handed the van back and they still haven't released the deposit after being told by the desk it would be a few days
Theifs - After accepting my reservation and taking payment, they gohsted me. I went to the address listed on their website to pick up the van and there was nothing there. I spent months reaching out the them on the phone but it took me to a foreign call center. I sent them numerous emails and legal letters but never heard back from them.
Wicked Campers took my money from my account only later to inform me they could not fulfil my reservation request due to logistical problems. After a number of emails sent to Wicked Campers requesting a refund I eventually received a reply informing me the refund was being processed. Eventually 14 days later I received a refund however it was £50.28p short of the full amount I had paid to Wicked Campers. I contacted Wicked Campers requesting the £50.28p to be returned only to be told Wicked Campers could not control currency fluctuations therefore I need to contact my insurance to have this money reimbursed. I find this to be disgraceful customer service as Wicked Campers cancelled my booking reservation therefore they should be liable for their own administration costs in addition to any currency. Through no fault of my own I am out of pocket. In addition I have been extremely frustrated with regard to the level of communication I have received from Wicked Campers.
When booking online be aware of this company before you part with your hard earned money. I personally will never use this company again when visiting Canada.
Most horrific experience ever !
Made 2 bookings for 2 different time at the London Location.
Received a confirmation email mentioning a different location. Been overcharged for the daily rate so I called the customer's service which explained that the website was not updated and the location had been changed. Price of the daily cover was a mistake and will be refunded.
Fair enough, location was annoying but could deal with it. Next morning, I received again a new email mentioning a 3d location. I called and they explained that they did a mistake but the location is a different one. Which is far away from London ! Location I can't make to so I ask to cancel all bookings (worth £600) which the person agreed to but warned me that this had to be decided by the head office in AUS. Fair enough, for the next 3 weeks, no reply, no email, no answer on the online chat, no answer on the phone, all leading back to the head office which send me an email that they were looking into it.
Since then Radio silence, lost the money, officially taking them to court now if the BVRLA can't resolve the issue before.
BE MINDFULL AND CAREFULL WITH THEM!! Worse communication and customer's service ever !
The problems began when I arrived to collect my van from Wicked Campers Edinburgh. The man working there was sullen and grumpy, not at all welcoming. I arrived a little early, but he would not allow me to wait anywhere on the premises, saying that because of Covid I had to 'go away and come back'. So I ended up waiting in a nearby park for half an hour instead.
Despite the fact that I was hiring a vehicle in Scotland, a country where the speed limits are expressed in miles, I was given a vehicle with a speedometer in km / hour, with a sticker in the windscreen showing how to convert between the two.
Not at all conducive to keeping your eyes on the road!
It was also automatic, which I was not expecting in a country where the majority of cars are manual drive. But that was not a problem.
There was a big chip in the windscreen, presumably caused by a stone; it could have been dangerous, I could only assume that the company had checked it out with a mechanic, I had no way of knowing.
The road atlas supplied with the car was completely useless. It was an atlas for travel around Europe, and Scotland only featured on two small pages. Some of the towns I was driving between weren't even on the map!
On day 3 of the hire, I had a problem with the key not turning in the lock; it must have been slightly bent when supplied to me.
So I phoned the breakdown line, which was shown on a sticker on the windscreen. Instead of getting to speak to someone, I received an automated message to say that no-one was available and that the lines were only open 10am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Luckily the problem had occurred Monday morning when I was on a campsite. Had it occurred on a weekend or in some situation where it was dangerous to breakdown, I would have been stuffed.
As it was, it took four hours wait before someone phoned back and I was able to speak to someone about the problem.
I expected that there might be some delays fixing it, but not that it would take so long just to report there was a problem, not what you would expect with a breakdown firm.
The vehicle also stalled in a line of traffic, later on in the holiday. It had to be pushed out of the way so other cars could get past. Luckily it started again after a pause.
There were additional customer service issues when I returned the vehicle. I had taken care to return with more petrol than I had started with, I had kept a record to make sure that I had not exceeded the mileage allowance, and had left behind some items that would be useful to the next renter, such as some residual washing up liquid, more gas for the cooker than I had started with and a map that was actually useful for travel in Scotland.
On my last campsite I specifically paid extra for a hard standing pitch so I could clean the vehicle out easier. I spent 20 minutes to an hour sweeping it out.
When I returned the vehicle it was pouring with rain, and I was 'greeted' by the same sullen man, who despite the downpour would not allow me to put my bags inside to keep them dry while he inspected the vehicle.
He pointed out two difficult to reach areas which he said had not been cleaned enough, saying I should have hired a hoover. One was a narrow slot between the inner and outer footwell, which the brush supplied could not get into. One was an inaccessable area behind the seats, which had clearly not been cleaned when I picked it up, because I kept finding pieces of a large broken green sweet or bar of soap.
He then tried to extort £20 out of me, saying it would cost more if it went through official channels.
In summary, I would advise against using Wicked Campers, as it is likely to have a negative impact on your holiday. There might be hidden costs, which you would avoid by using a more reputable firm, even though on the surface the initial cost might appear higher.
BED BUGS, MOLD, NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE
This company has been an absolute nightmare.
We rented one of their vans for a weekend trip to Northern Ireland.
The first shock was that we had to discover when opening the tent for the first time, that it was covered in mold. The mattress, the tent walls, the whole thing was covered. This could only have resulted from poor/no maintenance and Wicked Campers not opening the tents after the van is returned.
But it got worse. We decided to suck it up, cover the affected areas and continue our trip (as we had driven such a long way already). On our way back to Dublin, one of our friends started noticing bites all over his body. He went to see a GP when he was back confirmed that he was bitten by Bed Bugs(!) and he might have to shave his hair off, throw away his clothes, intensively clean his flat etc. All of which resulted in tremendous costs for him and massive stress.
On top of all of this, Wicked Campers literally didn't reply to any of our e-mails (which clearly outlined the horrendous conditions and problems, even with photos and a signed letter from the GP). Only after many more attempts to get their attention and threatening to make this public, they reluctantly (only way I can describe it) sent us a message back, which basically stated that we couldn't be sure the Bed Bugs were from the van, insinuating that our friend may have had them before etc., and would only offer us a settlement amount of 100€. This however was only to end the discussion and by no means admitting their mistakes.
I would URGE you to think twice whether you want to rent a van from Wicked Campers in Dublin. This experience has been one of the worst and I wouldn't want anyone to go through all of this.
DO NOT BOOK! EVER!
We (easy going crew of three guys) booked a camper for a road trip. The van we got was in very bad shape: The roof tent was absolutely disgusting, moldy and full of stains, tires weren't aired properly and after we finished our trip, we discovered BED BUG BITES on our bodies.
The only thing worse than our experience with the van was the interaction with Wicked Campers. They refused to give us a refund (only offered 100€ and wanted us to sign an NDA), only answered after a week and claimed we got the bed bugs from hostel or hotel (even though we got a doctor's note and live here in Dublin). Never ever book here again.
Terrible terrible company:
1) BEDBUGS: bodies full of bites, pictures and doctor certificate provided
2) NO CUSTOMER SERVICE: it's been more than 2 weeks we opened a claim, no answer from anymore, customer service is dead.
Do not use this company.
We hired a wicked van for a 2 month trip around Europe starting in London. Our experience dealing with the company was HORRIFIC and not only put us out of pocket and affected the quality of our trip but actually JEOPARDISED OUR PHYSICAL SAFETY on 2 occasions.
We picked up the van in London about 3pm on a friday and only made it 1 hour out of London before the van broke down irreparably and had to be towed back to the depot. The mechanic said the steering mechanism was almost detached from the wheels and if we had continued driving, we could have completely lost control of the car and had a major crash.
We were advised by Wicked that we had to sleep in the van in their carpark for the next 3 nights until they opened again on Monday! They did not provide us any access to drinking water or access to a working toilet. We were told that we could walk to the nearest train station with a toilet (Waterloo station) but this was 10 minutes walk each way and cost 40p per use! There was only a little satisfaction in using the Wicked office doorway as my urinal throughout the nights.
Not 2 weeks into the hire, the van started shuddering when we reached 100kph (60mph). I called up roadside assistance to speak with "James" and we were allowed to take it into a Belgian mechanic to seek repairs.
The mechanic could not find the car model in the system and the van did not have the paperwork required by law in Europe for the mechanic to work on the car so they refused to take the car into their workshop. I had to remove each wheel in their carpark and roll it into the workshop myself.
When I pulled off the 3rd wheel, the tyre was already worn through the wire reinforcement in the tyre and right down to the inner layer! Only 2 weeks into a 10 week trip, our safety had been seriously in danger from the poor maintenance & care of these vehicles! I have attached images for proof.
Roughly two more weeks passed and the aircon in the van broke as we were coming down into southern Europe during the summer period. Wicked refused to do anything about it saying that they didnt guarantee Airconditioning in their vans!
After checking thoroughly, it appears they sneakily dont even mention airconditioning and so the average hirer like me would just expect that when you are hiring a working modern car, that working airconditioning would come as standard!
They refused to help in anyway and so , we took the van to a mechanic ourselves and paid to have the airdonditioner serviced from our own money.
They could not fix the issue and so I argued with james until he agreed to try to organise another van for us. Two days from the pickup apparently the van was no longer available. Whether it ever existed I am not sure.
No further effort was made by James over the next week to find another van during what major newspapers were calling the "European summer from hell".
DONT USE WICKED!
Had a terrible experience. The van was in shocking condition. The battery packed up after one day, and the Wicked telephone road side assistants man tried blaming it on us and that it was because we where using the lights to much. endless more breakdowns later and two days taken from our trip a mechanic examines the battery and cannot believe that it hadn't been changed years ago. Wicked Customer service skills are appalling, and did not try to resolve the situation and was looking out for their own expenses by not paying for the help we needed, the wicked road side assistant guy called J**y did not care for distress, and was a nightmare to deal with. I asked if we would be refunded the two days, and he almost laughed and said, well only if we can test the battery are selves and if its faulty you maybe might be refunded one night. he also at one point suggested we buy a battery from a supermarket and fit it ourselves! (clearly to save money for his own greedy self), he wanted us to haul the battery back with us! he also explained the battery just needs a 'deep recharge' even though the mechanic said it was a danger to have in the van..
Im shocked this company is allowed to operate, they have no care for their responsibility
DO NOT RENT FROM THEM, IT WILL RUIN YOUR HOLIDAY
