Great business simulator

I am writing this to warn any potential users about the deceptive billing practices used by this company. I signed up for a 1 USD trial in October, which I understood to be a one-time payment. After a month with no charges, they suddenly began billing my card 30 USD every single month starting in December. I have now been charged a total of 120 USD for a service I never authorized and, haven't even logged into for the past four months.
When I reached out to their support team to resolve this, I was met with complete arrogance. They claimed they "cannot" cancel the subscription from their end and refused to issue a refund, citing a user agreement that was never clearly disclosed. They are essentially hiding behind technicalities to keep money that was taken without informed consent. I even challenged them to check my actual usage and login history that would prove I haven't used the platform during the period I was billed. This resulted in them simply ignoring my messages. This is not how a legitimate business operates. If you value your money and expect transparent business practices, stay far away from this platform. I am now forced to resolve this through a formal bank dispute and a fraud report, but I will not rest until I see justice.

It would not be true to say this is a bad game, but it's incredibly pay to win. There's a lot of depth and it's very fun to play around actually, but lots, and lots, and even more features are locked behind paywalls. And based on personal experience, the premium currency (GP) is NEVER given out for free, no matter what. Not fun :(

1) Servers
They still keep four nearly dead servers instead of merging them into one. A more reasonable approach would be to keep one main server for long-time players and, in addition, launch a separate fresh server for newcomers. There haven’t been any new “classic” servers like Vera and Olga since 2006. Why should a new player start in an economy where assets have been accumulating for twenty real years?

2) Communication and moderation
I contacted support and was told that public communication channels were disabled due to the situation 2022. I can’t imagine a more absurd reason. I’ve played many games, both browser-based and client-based, and I’ve never seen anything like this. Yes, communities can argue, but people usually still try to remain civil. The audience here is older and typically calmer. I don’t believe reopening chats would instantly turn into chaos.
At the same time, support claims they don’t have the resources to moderate. With the current pricing of paid features, that sounds doubtful. They could reward volunteers with a subscription or premium currency and recruit a small team of moderators. A couple of people in different time zones would be enough for near-immediate response. I don’t understand how a social game can exist without real social tools, and it’s even less clear how newcomers are supposed to integrate into business communities with no communication channels.

3) Subscription as “optional, but not really”
Support also said the subscription is not mandatory and most features remain free. Formally, that’s true, but it’s hard to call that an honest answer, because the most important functions are locked behind the subscription.
Want to build quickly instead of waiting for days? Subscription.
Want to implement innovations that massively boost each business? Subscription.
Want managers to automate routine tasks? Also paid.
Some structures cannot be built without a subscription at all. Politics and corporations may not be essential for everyone, but those are subscription-only too. As a result, playing without a subscription feels comfortable only for the first week or two.

4) Paid purchases and the economy
Paid purchases have always been expensive. The subscription has made the game slightly cheaper in some places, but overall it’s still a very costly project. Other players are right when they say that certain resources are essentially available only for donate, at prices ranging from tens to thousands of dollars (amazing). There are also tenders that a newcomer can never win when servers are twenty years old and old players with accumulated assets will always outbid you.

Conclusion
It’s long overdue for the developers to rethink things. If you truly lack resources, the business model may be the real issue. Relying on two or three big spenders discourages newcomers and slowly dries the game out. It’s strange that the creators of an economic simulator don’t draw that conclusion themselves.

On paper it's an interesting idea to combine Capitalism Lab (CL) with a browser MMO. Unfortunately, it just ends up being a very tedious and more expensive experience.

Most of my time was spent tweaking numbers for sale prices and supply lines, which annoyingly change every day. There's no managers that can auto tweak this for you like in CL. Some of the mechanics are really obscure, so you end up scratching your head why stores aren't selling products that are twice the avg quality and half the avg price in a city that has no competitors.

Is this a multiplayer game? I honestly can't tell. There's no feeling of community: no forum, no chat, just links to some Reddit and Facebook accounts that have been dead for years. The other companies could just be bots and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

The pricing is just ridiculous, with raw materials production costing real money, and the cheapest monthly subscription being around 20$, and tons of annoying microtransactions for basic stuff.

For 20$ you can just get a one time purchase of CL, for a total of 60$ with all DLC. That is waaay more content for a better price. And you can play it at your own pace since it's single player, so you don't have to wait for an hour long server updates (I kid you not).

I find this app very effective for learning management across different fields. It's intuitive, though a tutorial would be helpful for beginners. I'm glad Virtonomics already has a set of useful tutorial videos on YouTube to fill that gap!

Virtonomics is seriously one of the most underrated business simulators out there.
The depth of economics, production chains, and real-world style management is on another level compared to typical tycoon games. It actually rewards long-term thinking instead of just clicking upgrades.

Been playing for a while now and it feels more like running a real company than a game — especially when markets start reacting to your decisions. Huge respect to the devs for keeping it this complex and alive after all these years.

I just wish the price for GP is much cheaper. To purchase 500 GP gonna cost me a fortune month-worth-average-salary playing in my country. As I grew along the game, I started to realized how raw produce will require GP, it just killed the motivation. Now I understand why selling underwear in Nigeria for $15000 is possible because not many players can pay that much of real money to produce and compete. On top of that, people in Nigeria don't mind to pay for it, made it unrealistic game-balance for players who are not able to pay as much. I don't feel like playing for much longer anymore, although this is such a wonderful game.
