  1. Federal kreditföreningen

Skrivet av företaget

Vermont Federal Credit Union was founded in 1953 as the Burlington Postal Employees Credit Union. Just a short time later, the Credit Union was renamed to the U.S. Government Employees Credit Union of Chittenden County. Our connection to these roots remains strong as many government employees in Vermont are still loyal members of Vermont Federal. In 1990, members voted to convert the Credit Union from a state charter to a federal charter, and we became Vermont Federal Credit Union in 1991. After a series of expansions and mergers, we became a community chartered credit union in 2001, which meant that membership was no longer limited to only government employees. We now operate under a community charter, opening the possibility of membership to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in a variety of Vermont counties, as well as any of their family members. Those counties include: Chittenden, Grand Isle, Franklin, Lamoille, Washington, Caledonia, Orange, Orleans, and Addison.

I can't trust them anymore.

After being a customer since the 1990s, suddenly at the beginning of this year I get denied access to my account three different times in about 2 weeks. They told me the situation was fixed which honestly, was a mistake on my part the first time. It was fixed immediately then they let me use it again, then sent me away again with no logical reason about a week later and finally they refused to even give me a screen print of the account saying it's not mine the third time I went in. It was mine for decades and suddenly in a little over 2 weeks I was basically told to go away and it's not mine! The stress of not knowing if I will be able to access my money from direct deposit and being denied a simple screen print without any logical attempt to explain or fix became to unsettling for me. After decades of being a proud member of this place I've had to switch financial institutions. I don't know what's happened in the past several months with their attitudes but they won't have to be concerned with me bothering them again. I feel very let down given how everything had been for so many years only to be dismissed with a total lack of regard or respect. The saddest part is they all know who I am but they treated me as though they had never seen me before in their lives and the embarrassment I felt during this month of treatment have kept me from even bothering to try anymore. I'll never know why they did this to me because they refused to even try and explain anything to me. Just turned me away. The third time was the final time. Don't worry Vermont Federal, I won't bother you again.

Terrible bill payer service/worse customer service

I've been a customer/client/owner-member since I moved to Vt. I historically use my bank's bill pay service due to the convenience of the bank sending the payment to a creditor/service provider instead of me having to write a check or have the receiver debit my accounts directly.

Attempting to pay off a loan at another bank, I set up a bill payer payment with VFCU to send the bank payment directly. VFCU flagged the payment for fraud. When I contacted the bank to resolve the issue, I was told that the payment was canceled, and that VFCU had a relationship with the other bank and could send the payment directly if I came into the branch.
I went into the branch and confirmed with the teller that the bill payer payment was in fact canceled. She confirmed this and indicated that there were no pending bill payer payments in the system. I proceeded to have VFCU send the payoff through their system to the loan account with the other bank.

The other bank received the payment and sent me a payoff notice.

Approximately six months later, the VFCU contacted me stating that the bill payer sent a payment in excess of $10k and had been attempting to deduct it from my VFCU account. At first, I thought this was a scam. How could it take six months for this to become known to VFCU and to notify me about it?

Ultimately, I realized it wasn't a scam, at least not your typical scam, and that VFCU was actually coming after me for the $10k.

When I contacted the other bank, they informed me that they had no credits to my loan except the ones that actually came out of my account at VFCU. The bank provided me with these records.

Since then, VFCU closed my checking account and stole my balance from it. They froze four of my children's accounts and claim they will not release the freeze until these funds that they claim to have sent are paid by me.

I only discovered these freezes when two of my teenage daughters attempted to withdraw their funds to buy their first car. The bank said they could not access their accounts. This forced us to nearly miss out on the deal as we scrambled to come up with funds elsewhere.

Six months later, my daughter started college. She had intended to use money in her account towards her tuition. Once again it was frozen. She instead had to take out an interest bearing student loan to cover the funds that the bank froze, money that had been saving her whole life.

Despite this clearly being an issue that was caused by the poor communication between VFCU and their bill payer service, I offered to assist with tracking down this money if they released the freeze on my children's accounts. I offered to provide the financial records for my loan at the other bank, I offered to conduct a three way call with VFCU and the other bank, and other potential ways to resolve this issue.

VFCU's only options for me to resolve their error is for me to either pay this $10k+, or to contact a third party (whom I am not familiar with) which will require me to provide all kinds of personally identifying information including name, address, dob, ssn and other information that I am extremely cautious about to whom I provide it to. With the significant rise of information being hacked from hospitals, banks, service providers, and even the federal government, I am extremely hesitant to give this information out, especially over the phone to an unknown/untrusted entity.

Sadly, I feel the only options I have left are to contact the states attorneys office, the NCUA, and/or any other legal actions allowed by law.

I would give zero stars if I could

I would give zero stars if I could, they decreased my credit line on my visa credit card and I have a 767 score. I called and they said we lowered because you pay off balance a lot ?
What does that even mean. I think what happend was Lori and that other women were on a power trip and retaliated against me from a Domestic wire inside earlier that week. I gave them several times to check their selves and they did not. Another thing I noticed is they hire only women for the most part why is that? And zero minority essential. They are official not existent to me, as Liqudated all my assets with them and since I’m in the military I opened a navy federal account. They called me and offered me several things right out the gate a new Credit Card with a very generous line of credit. A personal line of credit I pay back as I go and is available when I need it. Don’t stay with Vermont federal is where I am going with this you are not a name there you are a member number that is it. This occurred when they started renting and buying buildings and adding more locations. Now they’re no better than the Big Banks. very sad.
Thank you for being better than Vermont Federal credit union, navy federal credit union is number 1 the best.

Solid bank, needs some improvements

I’ve had my checking and savings accounts here for years. I was initially attracted by their Rewards Checking account. I now use cash back credit cards instead of doing all the POS debit transactions because I end up earning more that way than the interest on the Rewards Checking.

I’ve still kept my accounts there though and have been pretty satisfied. The mobil app is pretty good and the online banking is good.

It also has a feature where you can instantly transfer money to another VTFCU customer if you “add” them (requires some info from the person in order to add them).

I wish VTFCU had a green/socially responsible banking initiative where our savings could be focused on helping make Vermonters save energy, water (and therefore money), improve the sustainability and carbon storage in agriculture, etc.

I found a better auto loan rate at NEFCU, so recommend checking there.

The staff at the VTFCU branch I go to have always been friendly and helpful and I have appreciated their COVID safety protocols.

I am distresses to read that another reviewer experienced racism here. As far as I can currently remember I’m not aware of VTFCU taking a visible stance against racism, and other issues of oppression and exclusion/discrimination (other than legally required equal lending statements). It sounds like there needs to be additional training and accountability for staff to consciously fight against racism and its effects. Maybe there should be an affirmative action plan as well to improve the diversity of staff. Everyone should be able to bank here and be treated with respect, care, and equally. Maybe there could also be a newsletter series on the history of the credit union, including both good and bad/hard parts of the story.

VFCU Racial Discrimination behavior continued!!!!

In all this mess with relief $600 payment, They forced closed my account out retaliation and now they received my $600 deposit but denied and returned to IRS. No attempt to contact me about it, just to further inconvenience me!?
Constant negative behavior , always.
Nothing good constant hate, and retaliation. They offered to close me account, due to their behavior ( Why would I do that), I have perfect credit, until Customer Service Manager, started all this discrimination and retaliation. If your black, brown or red, don't support this credit union you'll regret it, Report all negative behavior asap to NCUA.

Above and Beyond

The Vermont Federal Credit Union always goes above and beyond to provide excellent customer service. The personal attention and assistance I have received with recent transactions deserves a 6-star rating.
