I had thought about joining a vinyl club for a long time. After many hours of research, I chose The Retro Store and have now received my first order. I am delighted with the result. Three records arrived, as promised, in immaculate condition. What is more they were not albums I would have chosen - but you know what, I love them!!! The service is first class and personal to you. The Retro Store is highly recommended

Original delivery I received was the wrong genres. However when informed of this replacement items were sent so all in all happy with the service

Good Customer service. Intriguing collection of choices so far. It is a surprise each month what I may find in my package. So far their choices have been a tad safe with Elton John, Rod Stewart, 3 degrees , Nat King Cole but 2 of the artists I was not aware of and was pleasantly surprised. It is great fun to receive these packages each month. Let us see what the future will bring. Roy

The magazines come through somewhat erratically, bit like double decker buses, but they are brilliantly packaged, individually wrapped with card reinforcement and are a collectors dream. Except I'm not a collector, I'm just collecting them. The site theretro.co.uk implies this is a historical, even fuddy duddy item - but the MCU guarantees it is anything but. There are real gems in the story snippets - it feels very current - and ok, it;jumps around a bit, but when did you last refuse to watch a movie because it was 'out of sequence'. Recommended.

This service has been great! I bought this as a Christmas present for my husband to get 6 months worth of Jazz records and he's been absolutely thrilled. We are in the US and it is really cool to have the UK versions of these titles!

So, so cool. As we get older, generally we stop discovering new music. This is such a fun way to get back into it.

Got my first box and it contained nothing I would have bought myself, or even know. I love it. Having fun discovering new music again.

The store is lovely. The products are a little warn but that is to be expected. More over, The price is great as well as the customer support so I would recommend this for anyone who wants a monthly sub.

This makes a wonderful gift! We've had fun collecting our packages. Some repeats and unknowns...we are still looking into how to do the exchanges. Otherwise, great idea with not an outrageous price!

Absolutely terrible
My son got me a voucher as a Father’s Day present, I listed my likes as blues, two tone and reggae I was sent Barbara Streisand John denver and children’s nursery rhymes, in fairness it looked like they had gone to the local charity shop and picked up the first 5 records in the rack( 1 still had a 50p label on)
Despite emails from myself and my son I heard nothing. About 9 months later I got a generated email from them to try to get me to purchase some more, despite emailing them again no reply
If you are thinking of using this company save your money take a fiver to your local charity shop and ask the first old lady you see to pick some records for you

So on my first box I gave it 4 stars, the fact that the condition of the games, variety of titles and how well the shipping was done really impressed me, the only drawback was the value of the box. Having now had December and January I can safely say that had changed. High quality and efficiency as per only this time greater variety of value in the boxes. Well worth the subscription and something I can see myself keeping for a long time to come

Bought the record subscription as a Christmas gift and we look forward to receiving our package each month! Our record selections arrive in great condition and the choice of records are spot on. Such a great way to not only build a record collection of familiar favourites but also listen to and learn about new music that is out there. Given we are not in Singapore, Peter ensured that we received our first box on time and was always on hand to help with any queries. Definitely encourage anyone who loves their music to sign up for a subscription!

This is the second year I've used The Retro Store to gift some vintage vinyl to my son as a Christmas present. The fact I've done this 2 years in a row should speak for itself. He was delighted with his present last year.
We did have some issues with delivery this year, with the first delivery via Hermes going missing. That's Hermes' fault not Retro's. However Peter the owner of Retro stepped in and to make sure we weren't disappointed for Christmas he personally hand-delivered another pack of records himself. That's what I call service above and beyond normal

I ordered a box via the black friday "double the box for £1 extra" deal, and renewed the subscription once. needless to say, I was very disappointed.

The box came in VERY late, and the tracking number I was given didn't work day 1, kept going back to check on it daily and still didn't work, the support email told me it was correct and that i'd get the box "eventually". I wanted the box to arrive BEFORE my subscription renewed itself so I could see if it was worth paying $70/month or not. but it took too long, guess I'll be unsubscribing right after this review

Now for the games...
So, CAD to GBP conversion at the time would make the box $70 for me, with the doubled contents I would either expect games totaling close to $70 or more. It wasn't even close, doing some looking up and the games only costed roughly $50 total, and I even got games for a system I didn't even have selected. what am I supposed to do with an N64 game when I don't have an N64? And why did I get a sports game when I didn't even have the sports genre selected?
I'm pretty sure I got a box that wasn't meant for me as just about half of the games inside didn't even fit with the selection I chose

I haven't even gotten to test the games yet because I'm so disappointed with what I got. Depending on your country, this most likely isn't a very good deal at all for getting retro games.

May 2020 Update:
the box from my accidental renewal arrived, 6 months late, with no update as to why, apparently it was a change of offices, doesn't explain why it took them 5 months to finally send the box however.
as for the box itself... they said they'd compensate with extra games, I'd expected those games to be in the same box, but they're apparently in a 2nd box lost somewhere in the mail.
I received 3 games and a pizza cutter, all 3 of those games were still inexplicably pal, and the 2nd box was supposedly the one with the NTSC games.
One of the games and the pizza cutter were both in broken packaging, due to the box having no insulation or anything, everything just rattles freely

as of today, I haven't been able to test any of the games I've received as none of my systems are PAL and none of them have been modified to be region unlocked

This time I'm opting for a refund rather than giving these guys another chance. maybe it's a good deal if you're in the UK, but literally anywhere else in the world and just shop for stuff on something like ebay instead. It's likely cheaper and more likely to arrive in the condition you paid for, and on time. Unacceptable.

Update: Owner contacted me and has rectified my complaint, it seems like they’ve changed completely since my free trial!

I tried their ‘free trial’ a year ago. It took them so long to process my order that I was charged £30 for the following month! It took at least 3 weeks to get in contact with them and receive a refund, and I never even received the free box..

It’s a shame because I love the idea of the company. It just seems like the owner or owners are overworked and under equipped to handle a big operation like this. Hopefully it improves with time but judging by the other reviews on here, not looking likely.

In all fairness, the free trial offer seemed ambitious at the time. However, I’m not sure how else you can encourage people to risk such a substantial amount of money on an unknown company! Almost a catch 22..

I wish the owners good luck and I hope you succeed eventually. However, I’m scared to even risk buying a box because of what happened last time. The most worrying thing is, the same thing happened to both my girlfriend and my best friend, who I told about the company.

This service is a scam

I bought a Ps1 Gamebox after watching a few videos about this service. I was pretty hyped and wanted to give it a chance, since I haven't done anything like this before. That was a big mistake.

First of all: Before you get to subscribe, you have to give them your gaming preferences, so that you get the kind of games you like. I personally selected RPG, Action, Adventure and horror. I would've been very happy with any kind of game, that would've fit those criteria.

I got Monopoly, some random shovelware casino game (which there was a 1€ sticker on the front) and dancing stage party edition, the latter of which came in a box of time crisis, which is a decent looking on rails shooter with plenty of action.

But not only did the game selection fail to impress ANY genre i tried to get, I also got damaged boxes. Every game box was damaged severely, some of them even not closing properly. And all that for about 22€ ?

The value of the games didn't bother me as much, as I expect a loot box system like this to be not worth the amount of money I spent for the service. But this is just borderline greedy.

Bottom line: don't use this service if you want to get some retro games. I haven't tested the other offers they promote on their site, nor will I do so. But please take this service with a grain of salt.
