We'd just like to clarify that while members can no longer cancel directly through the website, cancellation is not difficult or hidden. Members can find our cancellation information within the members' area, and if they have any trouble locating it, they can simply email us at members@thecuriousdrinker.com and we'll be happy to provide the number and assist.

We ask members to call us to cancel so that we can ensure memberships are closed correctly, answer any final questions, gather feedback, and help prevent any unwanted future renewals. The average cancellation call takes around two minutes, including wait time.

While we understand that some members would prefer an online cancellation option, our intention is not to make cancellation difficult, but to provide a personal service and ensure everything is handled properly.

Great subscription service

Great subscription service. Good choice of different rum and gin. There's also an alcohol free subscription. Included in the subscription you also receive snacks to try with your beverage of choice.
The subscription allows you to skip or pause for however long you choose. Cancellation is also possible. The trial pack was a great idea.
Excellent customer service - Desmond Jones was very helpful and friendly, sorted out something that I had been unable to resolve myself online (user error).
Highly recommend 👌

Great customer service

Haven’t gotten the box yet so can’t rate on that, but customer service has been super helpful, very straightforward with their emails and calls. Anna let me know of all my options and was very lovely on the phone. Thank you :)

Cancellation process is hideous!

When I started my subscription 6 years ago all was good but over time the boxes do not feel like as good value any more, especially since linking it with the rum. I have been trying for days to cancel my membership but have got increasingly frustrated going through every screen on the app to do this and not succeeding. I then tried to phone them but the number is coming up as invalid. I have therefore (hopefully) deleted my card details from my account so that they cannot take any more payments until i can eventually get confirmation that my account is closed. I would not recommend this to anyone now :(

We're sorry to hear that you've become frustrated with both the perceived value of the boxes and the cancellation process.

Regarding the boxes themselves, in recent years we've actually increased the amount of content and extras included, with more accompanying materials, features and added-value items than ever before. Our Gin and Rum subscriptions are curated separately by dedicated teams to ensure each box is tailored specifically to that spirit and its audience. While there may occasionally be a brand that appears across both subscriptions, this only happens when we believe it genuinely works for both gin and rum enthusiasts, never as a way of reducing quality or value.

In terms of cancellation, we do require members to contact us directly so we can ensure memberships are properly closed and avoid any unintended future renewals. The cancellation phone number is available within the members' area, and if you're unable to locate it, our team is always happy to provide it via email. We would encourage members not to simply remove payment details, as this does not necessarily cancel an active membership and can lead to confusion regarding future renewals.

Our average cancellation call takes around two minutes, including wait time, and gives us the opportunity to answer any final questions and ensure everything is processed correctly.

Their gin boxes were great

Their gin boxes were great, I enjoyed the complementary snacks and mixers, and the stories behind each gin was interesting. I cancelled my subscription as I no longer drink, but would recommend to others who do drink. The cancellation process is rather cheeky, as their FAQ states that it's easily done online but then when I followed the instructions, they made it so that you HAVE to call their customer service line to cancel, so I found this to be dishonest. Their customer service rep Anna was polite and helpful and she cancelled it after initially trying to offer me alternatives. The website should really mention upfront that cancellation can ONLY be done by telephone.

Surprised and shocked to see their gimmicks

I am surprised and shocked to see their practices.

First trap, you can't cancel membership on website. Then next trap, no one ever answers the phone.

I rang their number more than 10 times even after 10-15 minutes waiting neither any answer or call back, Inspite of the voicemail. Finally still charged for monthly auto-renewal ( third trap). I clearly said I am not interested, still they sent me the parcel after 3 weeks ( fourth trap). I refused to accept the delivery. Now let's see, if they still refund or not.

Our phone lines are open Monday to Friday during business hours, so if your attempts to call were made on a Saturday, unfortunately the team would not have been available to answer. During opening hours, the average call time, including any wait time, is around two minutes, and our team works hard to respond to members as quickly as possible.

We do ask members to call in order to cancel their membership rather than cancelling online. This is not intended to be a "trap" we genuinely value the opportunity to speak with members, answer any final questions, and gather feedback about their experience.

We're also sorry to hear about the confusion around your renewal and delivery. If a cancellation request is received after a renewal has already processed, the monthly box may still be dispatched as part of that billing cycle. Refused deliveries are normally returned to us and reviewed by our support team for refund eligibility.

Very worth the membership

Very worth the membership, not had a gin I haven’t enjoyed with or without the cocktails. Really appreciate the special sales where I can repurchase some of my favourite gins. Would recommend for discovering gins not available widely

Was finding logging into my account…

Was finding logging into my account difficult. I emailed and the person that was helping was nothing but patient, helpful and very knowledgeable. My friend and I love being part of the gin club and long may it continue.

Our boxes do not contain the same drinks each month. The Curious Drinker is a discovery subscription, and we carefully select a different spirit for every monthly box. Whether you're subscribed to gin or rum, you'll receive a different Gin or Rum of the Month, sourced from a range of independent distillers and producers. In fact, members have discovered hundreds of different spirits through our subscription over the years.

We're also sorry to hear about the issue with being charged twice. That's certainly not the experience we want for our members. Decent products, scammy business practices

Quality of the products is good, but the price is a bit high. More importantly though, cancelling is an absolute nightmare! There is a very small link at the bottom of the "My Account" page, which takes you to several rounds of "dark pattern" attempts to get you to pause or switch plans instead ... eventually leading to the news that you can't cancel online but have to call a number. After being stuck on hold for ages, I finally connected to someone who went round in circles trying to get me to see if some other combination of subscriptions would be better, or "but what about your 2% cashback", etc. This is dishonest business, plain and simple - in my opinion, a scam.

Cancellation Difficult

When I signed up I was told I could cancel my membership whenever, but what I wasn't told was they would make this as inconvenient as possible. Despite buttons saying you can click here to cancel these just take you to mattress saying you have to call. Very frustrating experience, after I had been a member for a long time.

I recommend thinking twice before you sign up.

Easy telephone conversation

I had to phone the company to cancel my subscription but Desmond was easy to talk to and clearly informed me of all my options. He also included a link on the email to restart if I change my mind.
