Remortgaging / Transfer of equity due to divorce

The process and documentation was clear, and the person I was dealing with (Tim) was approachable and helpful. Only given 4 as sadly they wouldn't accept my deposit from a Trading 212 cash ISA due to Trading 212 dealing in cryptocurrency, so I couldn't complete and therefore I had to transfer to another conveyancer, which was very frustrating as we'd got most of the way through the process.

*** AVOID for your sanity- not worth the savings you can make - it will cost your wellbeing ***.My buyers are unlucky their broker recommended this firm and now we are stuck with unhelpful conveyancer who is a record on repeat- the file with compliance and we need to wait. We are at the end of week 4 of compliance with no outcome and god knows how much longer they need. The conveyancer is the most rude and unprofessional person. Needless to say this inefficiency causes the delays to the whole chain with risk it breaks down next week because of the attitude of this firm ! And yes I already provided the details to feedback email address - that changed nothing but my original review was taken down. I’ll keep posting until I am blue in a face!

Our professional duties and communication obligations are to the party who has formally instructed us. Compliance checks are a standard and necessary part of the conveyancing process. They are designed to protect all parties and ensure regulatory requirements are met. Unfortunately, these checks can sometimes take longer than anticipated, particularly where third-party information or approvals are required.

Our experience was overall good...
Our experience was terrible, then great – I think we got a poor quality employee, who was replaced midway through the process so we went from a confusing situation to a fast, efficient one. We hadn't yet complained when the employee was removed from our case, so I assume either someone else had or there is internal good governance and the issue was spotted and addressed. So overall, no complaints, the remainder of the process was handled really efficiently so I'd use them again.

Sort Legal were the choice of my mortgage advisor and as such I went with their recommendation. Initially I have to say I was a little worried by a fair number of negative reviews. My case was handled by Vicky Foster and William Okoi. At times it was quite frustrating, but on reflection, it would seem that this is just part and parcel of conveyancing. The Sort Legal compliance department appear to be fairly pedantic, I was asked to explain multiple payments to Morrisons and Barclaycard, and at times they seems impossible to please even though my funding was quite straightforward. I can't really blame Vicky and William for that, and I am not convinced that this is not common with all conveyancers in this day and age. I did have to drive a two hour round trip to sign the TR1 because my signature was slightly different on my driving licence, and I just have one of those signatures that rarely matches identically twice in a row. That was somewhat frustrating for what was then a ten second process. On the way back calling to be told that compliance had requested further information. To be fair I feel that Vicky and William were more patient with me than I was with them at times. Having sold my late Mothers property in 2025, one piece of feedback would be around the documents requiring a wet signature. The solicitors we used didn't send those documents by email, they posted them with the plastic tags showing exactly where the signatures needed to be, maybe this is something Sort could consider given that many clients are likely not going to be local to their office in Derby, I was fortunately only an hour away so although frustrating, having the two hour round trip wasn't a disaster. Little things like this do make a difference. Overall, Sort got this over the line in good time for a leasehold purchase so they have ultimately done a good job, my only critique would be some of the minor customer interface issues as at times it all feels very remote, though when speaking to Vicky or William (even when I was frustrated at times), the issues were resolved. My advice would be to do your level best to have everything you need to prove your funding ready to avoid the frustration with the compliance team, because even with simple funding it seemed like an impossible task to make them happy at times and although I imagine this is common, asking you to account for your weekly shop at a national supermarket is genuinely somewhat ridiculous. But other than that many thanks to Vicky and William for getting the purchase over the line for me.

STAY CLEAR OF THEM!!!!
We were referred to Sort legal as part of the Mortgage deal and I can honestly say that probably that is the only kind of business they are keeping. No one would go to them otherwise. I have seen other reviewers advise that there is a complete communication breakdown within the company and I agree. We had to submit information all that was given twice. Then we were assigned a paralegal from hell - Faiza Saghir - she had an attitude that said that because we needed a mortgage we were lowly beings beneath her. Called a few times - she never returned my call. Would make up arbitrary rules about what paperwork she wanted - I had to send out the same email about 4 times before she was satisfied with what was written in there. I have owned a property for 20 years now and have remortgaged or mortgaes atleast 15-20 times - Never ever I was tempted to just call of the whole deal and look for another mortgage provider like I was on this deal and because of Faiza Saghir. I would advise anyone stuck with these guys to immedaitely request to be assigned another paralegal if your case gets assigned to Faiza.
