I engaged this publishing house for the release of my third scholarly work, a comprehensive examination of post-colonial governance structures in West Africa spanning three decades of research. Like a lot of people I started writing seriously during lockdown when everything stopped and there was suddenly time. Unlike most lockdown projects this one actually got finished and published. The team said they received an enormous wave of lockdown manuscripts and chose carefully. Being chosen from that wave felt meaningful. Stillness produced something worth reading apparently.

From start to finish, every aspect of this process went far above my expectations. Alyssa Santiago was my initial contact, and she was fantastic. She asked all the right questions, worked with my budget and wish list, and got everything prepped for me to continue with my project manager, Lisa Fernandez. Lisa was incredibly kind, professional, and attentive, and she was there nonstop throughout the process. The books look fantastic and are of great quality. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

The team were nice and friendly but I found the process to be extremely slow. They might be fine with adult text based books but my children book experience with them was very poor. First they set up all my pictures one the right side page with the text on the left side page with basicly zero edits other than centering them. No integration of picture with text, no bleed on any pages to have immersive view, no upscaling of images so it will come out blurry. It took them 2 weeks to do that basic edit that I could have done in an hour. I waited too long so I decided to edit and publish my self. It took them another two days to just change the incorrect spelling of author name and by that time I already have completed everything including the publishing myself.

Overall poor quality and poor efficiency

Okay so I was fully prepared to have a terrible time because I'd seen some messy reviews from a couple years ago. But whatever they changed internally it worked because my experience in 2025 has been nothing short of fantastic.

They assigned me an editor who actually reads romance and I don't mean that sarcastically, it matters so much when your editor understands genre conventions and reader expectations. The special edition hardcover they produced for my launch has foil, sprayed edges, and a ribbon marker and it looks like something you'd find at a Barnes & Noble display table. Pre-order setup was handled entirely by their team. I just had to show up and be excited online.

sometimes rejection is just redirection. The big houses weren't my people. Prime Story was. They were the right fit all along, I just didn't know it yet.
There is something beautiful about landing where you are actually meant to be. Their legacy in poetry is not about size or market share, it's about integrity and vision.
