Portuguese With Carla & Friends Omdömen 

Es ist schwierig ein Lernprogramm für europäisches Portugiesisch in deutscher Sprache zu finden. In Englisch findet man etliche, auch recht gute Programme. Bald musste ich feststellen, dass ich aber mit allen meinen Bemühungen nicht weiter kam, da ich das Gehörte nicht mit meinen gelernten Vokabeln in Verbindung bringen konnte.
Im Klartext: Ich habe nichts verstanden.
So kam ich zu Portuguese with Carla.
Dort liegt der Fokus auf realistischen Dialogen. Carla und Ihr Mann Marlon haben ein unheimlich interessantes Programm zusammengestellt. Es gibt viele unterschiedliche Lernmöglichkeiten für Vokabeln, Aussprache, Grammatik. Alles ist spielerisch gestaltet mit Quizzen und vielen Übungsformen. Auch "live practice sessions" über Zoom kann man für zusätzliche Kosten dazu buchen.
Ich fühle mich durch das Programm animiert, mich mit der portugiesischen Sprache wirklich zu beschäftigen und kann trotzdem meine eigene Geschwindigkeit "leben".
Und das Programm wird mit viel Liebe ständig weiterentwickelt.
Ich bin noch am Anfang, aber bislang hat keine Lernform mir soviel Spaß gemacht und mich so weitergebracht.
Ich schreibe diese Bewertung auf deutsch, trotzdem es sich um ein englisches Programm handelt, weil ich so deutlich machen möchte, dass es auch für deutsche Nutzer eine tolle Alternative ist.

I wanted to learn European Portuguese, but where to begin? Like you, dear reader, I searched online reviews, and that’s how I first discovered Portuguese With Carla (and Marlon, “the husband”).

I started with their free YouTube videos and found their style informative, engaging, and supportive. From there, I tried their (free) podcasts, Memrise exercises and newsletters. Carla and Marlon make you feel like you’re sitting down with friends and having conversation. They blend basics of vocabulary and a little bit of grammar with important every day skills, such as conversational skills, real world pronunciation and common idiomatic expressions, always with a smile and smattering of self deprecating humor. Don’t underestimate the value of hearing 2 native voices interacting with each other as they lead you in the lessons.

The Journey uses high quality video production to create scenes that act as a springboard for learning and discussion. They’ve supplemented the lessons with games and drills to reinforce the learning process. While I’m still in the early phases of the Journey, literally and figuratively, I’m so glad to have Carla and Marlon as my guides. Muito obrigado, Carla e Marlon!

The program works very well for me with its natural dialogues and approach to make language learning interesting and fun through interactive content.
Along many things you get exposed to colloquial words and come across challenges like constructing your own sentences - with guidance.

I am impressed by how much love, work and dedication has been and is still being put in building up this program, keeping it up to date and improving it.

Overall, I would recommend “the journey” to anyone who enjoys learning a language mainly through immersion.

I found Portuguese with Carla on YouTube and started watching her podcasts. Carla and Marlon have a unique way of teaching a new language. They’re very engaging. They’re very interesting. They give you lots of options for vocabulary, pronunciation, and interaction. I had tried other YouTube programs, and they don’t come close to comparing to Carla. If you want to learn European Portuguese, this is the way to do it.

My experience with Portugese With Carla has been been quite emersive at the start. It's a course that provides many ways to learn a language taking into account the differences in how people learn. I have felt comfortable with the exercises, quizzes and many options to speak aloud to help with pronunciation. The video interaction is also fun and engaging

It is challenging, engaging, well-paced, it gives me multiple chances to test my learning, and gives me exposure to real world EU Portuguese. The high quality of the videos is appreciated! For me one of the strongest elements as a student who is not immersed in a Portuguese-speaking environment is the aural aspect. Hearing and producing the language is so important. I am motivated to work this program Hard and so I also appreciate all the ancillary bits I can gobble up. This has been an invaluable resource for me. I have friends who are paying dearly for group and private lessons in-country and are not making nearly the progress I am making. I am learning at a Fraction of the price and am able to drip (or drown) -feed myself as suits my schedule and interest. This course is a game-changer.

I have just started Portuguese with Carla and am already finding it really helpful. The content is clear and Carla and Marlon are great at explaining how the site and different components work.

Great content and clear explanations of the features of European portuguese. I had some background through language apps which give mostly brasilian portuguese. Even the chapters that I could skip were excitingly useful. Above all some minor technical problems at my side were quickly solved through the helpline chatbox. I would strongly recommend.

Portuguese with Carla is by far my best experience with learning Portuguese online. It’s interesting, joyful, just with the vocabulary I need (not for babies;) and also playful. I am very thankful and happy that I can attend and proceed with this course🍀

Portuguese with Carla is the best language platform I've used. I had been using Practice Portuguese for quite a long time but it's quite repetative and slow progress. On the other hand PwC is entertaining, engaging and is very carefully structured. The course is immersive from the start, all Portuguese all the time - apart from a few explanations in English. The Portuguese is also mostly spoken at full speed but there are a lot of exercises. For an additional cost there are three live practice sessions that use Zoom, beginner, intermediate and advanced. I would recommend using one of these weekly. The groups are run by native Portuguese speakers and everyone gets plenty of opportunity to speak. The webiste is really well designed and you receive quite a few updates by email that are motivational.

I'm loving Portuguese with Carla and I recommend it to many people. I love the gamified nature of the course as well as how diverse and engaging the content is. The full length movie that's broken up bit by bit has me on the edge of my seat. The fact that they're popping up in places all around Portugal gives me such an authentic feel and it's exciting to be like, "I know where that is!" or "I've been there!" I'm just a huge fan of this form of learning altogether.

Carla and Marlon provide excellent - measured, programmed - instruction for beginners, with a variety of exercises and games suitable for adult learning. The link to Memrise, which complements the program, is a nice additional feature. Highly recommended.

Best portuguese course, ever. Interesting and a lot of interactive exercises. I am sure I will speak fluent portuguese after finalising The Journey. It is fun!

An absolutely unique and customized approach sets this program apart from all others. We do not begin to learn language / speaking as kids by going to grammar class and getting lists of words to memorize. We learn by listening, observing, and interacting. Portuguese with Carla follows the same approach with a one of kind experience and website / course. I have enrolled and intend to finish the course over a year or so. But even 6 weeks in, with less than 30 min a day, my comprehension and basic speaking skills are notably improved. This is a 5 star experience and site. Just wow!

Portuguese with Carla is a very well thought out and executed program for learning the language. I am constantly surprised at the depth of design of the user experience. This is not a simple, light-weight program. They must have spent thousands of hours creating the program and videos. Not to mention the production of The Journey. This program should receive an award. Oh, and my Portuguese is improving by leaps and bounds. The content is often just a little beyond what I'm comfortable with and that's just what I need to get better. I also use other Portuguese (European) apps and they're great at learning vocabulary, but Carla is helping me with real-world conversations.

Lovely, fun, low-stress, guided path through European Portuguese. I'm really enjoying it and my Portuguese is improving :-).

I am absolutely thrilled with this program! I was so intimidated about learning Portuguese. This program (through whimsical videos, short quizzes, “shadowing”, and Memrise support) have really taken me to a level of confidence I didn’t have prior to beginning! To be honest, I’m always excited to see what’s next in “The Journey”. I absolutely recommend this program for anyone wanting to learn this language. You will have so much support. The cultural components are a bonus!

I absolutely love Portuguese with Carla. I have used self-study programs for a variety of languages. These have allowed me to rent a room, order a meal and survive as a traveler in many different places - but only so long as the other people in the conversation spoke very slowly with a simplified vocabulary. Portuguese With Carla is the only program which has prepared me to understand people who talking at a normal conversational speed.

I am really pleased with my experience with The Journey. The material is engaging yet challenging, making the whole experience really captivating and rewarding. I know 6 other languages and this is by far the best language course I've ever taken in terms of content and speed. It will definitely not leave you feeling bored or not advancing.
