Poor service to book eye tests.
It appears there are no direct telephone numbers any more to my local Optical Express or surrounding areas. The numbers that are given go to an automated answer machine which just keep saying an advisor will answer and they never do. Online is impossible to book an eye test as all websites only seem to be interested in advertising their laser eye service. So I won't be using Optical Express again.
A truly rubbish company
Very very poor telephone call to find out why my contact lens direct debit was more than doubled without letting me know . The person I spoke to sounded very sleepy and bored .She had no idea of how to deal with customers telling me I had been emailed in December eventually I got her to read out my email address and it wasn't mine ! She was like a stuck record saying I had received an email even when told that my email was completely different to the one she had on file . What a waste of my time, after using this company for over 20 years they ve even moved premises without letting customers know .A truly rubbish company.

Unacceptable price increase for contract lenses
Totally agree with Jo. Out of the blue the ‘modest’ increase in price has turned out to be an unbelievable 56%. Outrageous and demonstrating poor organisational management to have to make an increase of this nature.

Had Lens surgery a year ago and laser on top.
Still having problems with blurred vision and being fobbed off by them. I have made a complaint and still being ignored. Absolutely disgusting customer service!!! I am now getting legal advice £7,500 is a lot of money to spend to be left with no follow up with my problem. Can anyone help with a good legal team that worked for them?

Great Service for Cataract Surgery
I decide to put my trust in Opticalexpress at Dumfries to deal with my cataracts and I was not disappointed. I was speedily seen by a very professional team at Dumfries who, after are full eye examination, discussed the different options they could provide at their clinics and outlined the various risks etc. that eye surgery carries. They then organised my appointments at my preferred clinic in St Vincent Street Glasgow; the first to carry out a further detail eye examination then the second to carry out the cataract surgery. The Dumfries team also carried out my post op. check the day after my surgery and a further check 4 weeks later. Opticalexpress were very good at providing both written information and keeping in contact by phone and text; including a call by my allocated surgeon the week before my operation so that any last questions could be asked and the details of the surgery confirmed. So my thanks to Shaun at Dumfries who managed everything for me and kept in touch at each stage in the process. As you will have guessed I am delighted with the outcome of my surgery and I am so glad I contacted Opticalexpress.
Do not take their contact lens discount
After years of paying for contact lenses, (and no shortage of distribution issues during this time)I took up their offer of £100 off glasses if I renewed for another year. Just over a month later, I've been told my direct debit will increase by £8pm (53%), and I'm tied in for another 11 months. So the £100 discount effectively becomes a £12 discount over the year. Completely mis-sold and bordering on fraudulent. Avoid at all costs.
Exceptional service
This week I visited the branch in the Trafford centre as I was experiencing 'floaters' in my eyes. I am undergoing chemo so was naturally extremely worried, The service and care given to me was beyond exceptional, Your staff are an absolute credit to your company. They were exceptionally thorough and when it cane to choosing my frame put no pressure on me to choose expensive frames, It was a superb experience Thank you

Booked an appointment for a consultation, but unfortunately I became ill so I was going to ring them to change my appointment. On that day they phoned me from the White Rose Branch to confirm my appointment so I told them I am poorly and would like to cancel. Before I had chance to even discuss an alternative appointment she rudely hung up on me. On checking my portal where I had previously filled out all the documentation they requested, they have deleted all my files and closed me down (so to speak). So glad they did actually now I've seen all these bad reviews! Will go elsewhere and I think this was meant to be 😜

Let me regale you with the tale of my visit to Optical Express, where I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Hardeep. It was an experience that left me positively enchanted with her exceptional service. As I crossed the threshold of the clinic, I could already sense that I was in for something special, and Hardeep was the conductor of this delightful symphony.
Hardeep's friendly and inviting demeanor was like a warm hug on a chilly day. She had a way of making you feel right at home from the get-go, and it was as if the clinic transformed into a haven of relaxation before my very eyes.

My personal experience was that this company is only interested in taking your money and if your going to cancel make sure it is within 3 days and bank holidays do count or they will keep 50% of your deposit

I booked in for a consultation in July to discuss laser eye procedures. The appointment was cancelled the day before due to having no ophthalmologist available. I was told they would ring to rearrange. They never did.
I booked back in for today (7th October) and arrived to be told there had been a last minute booking last night and I could have a 2 hour wait to even be seen! For obvious reasons I walked out! If they can’t get a simple consultation booking done then there is no way I am trusting them with my eyes! Twice I’ve booked and twice there has been issues. Never again!

It's been a year since multifocal lens and I can say that my money was not well spent as I can not even read normal writing let alone small writing
I have ghosting in my left eye and was told that can happen but they say there is nothing they can do

Totally ruined my life for the past 4 years since 2019 surgery, The laser vision lasted around a year which i paid £3,500 for and now i am been sent to private and NHS hospitals being diagnosed with Lasik related corneal actasia, which has completely ruined my vision and now glasses cannot correct my vision, i get constant headaches from all the squinting i do and i cant even use my mobile phone or laptop fully. stay well clear from OE waste of time and money and can really really badly affect your health. All of these positive reviews will just be people who they have asked to do so, maybe for a discount. regret everything so much.

I recently had laser eye surgery with Optical Express and the whole experience from start to finish has been incredible.
From the free consultation in Swansea, through to the actual surgery in Bristol (thank you Dr Antico and you’re wonderful colleagues) right down to the post-op aftercare from the Cardiff team i’m receiving at the moment. Every member of staff has been welcoming, informative, friendly and made me feel like a valued customer. The surgery itself is life changing and the customer service I’ve received has been wonderful.

I had LASEK eye surgery on the 29th January 2021 at Optical Express in Harley Steet and have regretted it ever since. I constantly have pain in both my eyes and have told them multiple times but have been ignored on the severity of my issue and my pain. I have been recommended to put hot towel on my eyes and wash with warm water or put eye gels on but this does nothing. I wake up multiple times during the night to put the eye gel on as my eyes feel like sand paper, stick together like I’ve shut them with super glue and that’s just during the night. During the day I have blurry vision, I see everything mixed and am in constant pain. My life has been destroyed, my work life has been destroyed and I wish I never had this surgery WITH THIS COMPANY as their after care is terrible. Everyday my vision and pain is getting worse and they do not care at all. I have been to see them multiple times and I feel less heard and cared about every time. They are not experienced, they do not know what they are doing and they will send you away with generic answers. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY WITH YOUR EYES. They will leave you in pain, RUIN your vision and do NOTHING about it. Aman Larijani - you have my contact details.
AVOID OPTICAL EXPRESS AT ALL COSTS
I had refractive lens surgery carried out by Optical Express in Clane, Ireland in November 2012. Subsequently, in 2016 I was suffering from hazy cloudy conditions in both eyes and therefore submitted a complaint to Optical Express. Optical Express
responded basically saying I had agreed to treatment and was fully aware of the risks involved. I was subsequently referred to a private Eye Consultant who carried out a form of laser treatment which seemed to correct the problem.
Recently, I noticed my right eye becoming very cloudy again and after attending my optician, was again referred to my Consultant. She advised me that the right lens has failed and also informed me that she had similar issues with other patients who had received treatment from Optical Express. I sent her the Optical Express response from 2016 and she was able to confirm that the Multifocal Intraocular Lens used by Optical Express (Oculentis MF30 Multifocal intraocular lens) was from a faulty batch supplied by the firm Oculentis. She further advised me that Optical Express are very difficult to deal with and that I should seek legal advice before contacting them. She thought there may have been other claims/class action cases taken against Optical Express relating to this issue. It will cost approximately €9/10K to explant the existing lens and replace same which will involve much more difficult surgery than was originally carried out. My eyesight will progressively worsen as the lens fails and I am as yet unsure if the left eye will also worsen as the same lens was put on each eye.
I have carried out some research and have found out that several cases were taken in the UK as part of a "Group Litigation" by at least 2 firms there"-
Hodge Jones & Allen (solicitor Peter Todd) and #Devonshires (solicitor Karen Cathcart) where they accepted a settlement in the region of STG1.7M.
Oculentis, the Company who manufactured the Lens, had previously shut down and cleverly set up again as Teleon to try and avoid having to recompense people.
I also came across a website "Optical Express ruined my life" who appear to campaign for better regulation of this industry in the UK. There are many very dissatisfied customers there. I am unsure how many Irish consumers have been affected by this treatment.

People need to realise that if they have a subsequent problem after initial treatment, they have absolutely no comeback from Optical Express.
Avoid using this Company at all costs.

The team at Optical Express at the Leeds White Rose branch are very helpful with Kerry and Sophie going above and beyond to help with their politeness and amazing exceptional customer service.
Kerry especially for helping my mum with her enquires and appointment bookings, any needs she has for the past 4 and half years with her prescription. We can’t thank her enough for her help and genuine kindness which is very rare in this day and age especially with her work ethic. An amazing person and a major credit to Optical Express.
Sophie has been very lovely and exceptional also again a major credit to optical express Leeds white rose branch. Very polite and respectful keep up the amazing work they deserve the high praise and credit.

Atonic pupil
Following a cataract operation in Glasgow on my right eye I have been left with an atonic pupil meaning it is fixed and doesn't react to changes in light intensity. Also when night driving oncoming headlights glare and lights have halos. Optical Express in Inverness have been superb but the organisation in Glasgow has been dreadful and now they just point to the fine print which basically says they don't accept responsibility for any after effects. I regret to say I fell for the TV adverts and the glossy brochure. I had my other eye cataract operation in the Albyn Hospital Aberdeen which cost £1200 less than Optical Express. Thanks Glasgow I have this problem for life. Avoid. After a later examination by an independent Optometrist further defects were seen and even more different defects were spotted by the Albyn surgeon prior to having my left eye cataract op. None of these were detected at any time by Optical Express. Research by myself shows that Atonic Pupil is a known but relatively rare occurrence following cataract surgery and which should be pointed out before an operation, even though the fine print says that not every problem can be covered at least some of the possible complications should be highlighted. It is my belief that not enough attention was given to the very severe trauma to my right eye following the bungee accident which may have resulted in damage to the sphincter muscles controlling the pupil or some other injury. Reading other 1 star Trustpilot comments, they comprise 30% of all reports, there appear to be widely differing charges, in some cases very high, whereas others doing the same operation have a much lower standard charge
