Lovely clothes but terrible returns process

I ordered a dress in two different lengths as I wasn’t sure which would fit me best. The dress itself is gorgeous and very good quality, but getting a refund for the one I returned was a right pain. It took just over a month before the money was back in my account, and that was after I opened a case on PayPal. Awful customer service - do better.

We're so sorry there was a delay processing your refund. As far as we can see, it appears there was an oversight on a round of processing and yours was missed at the time. Your email alerted us to the issue and we processed it as soon as we became aware.

We responded to your email within our stated timeframe, as displayed on our auto-response, to confirm that this had been processed and apologised for the delay with it.

Once again we are very sorry that yours was not completed within our usual time frame.

Awful customer service

I really wish I had read the reviews before placing an order. Trying to get any communication from the company with regards to processing my refund is impossible. They are outside of the statutory deadline for issuing a refund (well over 14 days) and I have emailed & DM several times with no response or reply. Off to Trading Standards next.

Edited after reading response from Manners... Please, please, please take note of your 1, 2 & 3 star reviews on Trustpilot. These reviews consistently site a poor refunds & communication process. Blaming your customers is never a good look.

Thank you for your review and we are really sorry to hear you feel the customer service has been so bad.

Whilst we know our response times are not always as quick as some of the bigger brands, as we are a very small team here at Manners - we do ask for 7 days to pass for a response to emails and yours was responded to within 4 days of the initial one and the day after the follow up that you sent, so this is well within our stated response timeframe. The DM messages were also responded to 1 day after the intial message and the same day as the follow up that you sent.

Your refund was processed within the time stated on our returns information on our website and both your emails and DMs were responded to in less than our stated response timeframe, so we are sad that you feel so stongly about the poor customer service you feel you have received.

The best swimming costume in the world

For the first time in 15 years I actually liked how I looked in a swimming costume. It can handle my post-children, peri-menopausal, squishy womanly body. I felt awesome in it. Never thought I’d say that about a swimming costume. I actually won’t dread the next beach day or pool day with the kids.

Good clothes, awful returns process

The clothes are clearly good quality, but I would be really wary of ordering anything again because the returns process is so inconvenient. You have to a) pay for the postage yourself; b) print out a returns label (there’s no printer-free option); and c) wait 14 working days from when they start processing the return to get your money back. This last bit means I’m on track to get my refund a full 4 weeks after I sent it back. One of these things on its own I would be fine with, but all three seems a bit much, particularly considering the price point of the clothes.

Hi Sophia, thanks for your review and we are sorry that you are unhappy with the returns process.

To respond to the points you mentioned:

a) Customers are responsible for the cost of return postage (unless the return is due to a fault or incorrect item) and this is stated clearly on our returns page on our website, so customers can be aware of the policy before making a purchase.
We know some larger companies are able to offer free returns but as a small business, this is not something we are currently able to offer.
Our products are much heavier than the standard high street or fast fashion pieces, as the fabric is much thicker and higher quality. This therefore makes the postage costs much higher than most other brands have to contend with.
We do subsidise as much of the outbound postage costs as possible, to keep this as low as we can for the customer and this means we are able to offer standard outbound shipping costs but we are not able to also cover the cost of return postage on top of this.


b) As we are not able to offer pre-paid postage labels, this does not offer us the option of the 'printer free label' (it is not something our distribution centre offers us). Therefore, our return label is just the address information and a slip that can be inserted inside the parcel, containing the order information and return instructions.
Where customers do not have access to a printer, they can handwrite a note to go inside the parcel containing that information and handwrite the address on the front of the parcel packaging.

c) 14 days is the standard term for processing returns and is followed by the majority of online retailers - this does mean your refund should be processed within that time frame, not 4 weeks after you sent it back. I'm sorry but I am a little confused at where the 4 weeks element comes from here. As you mentioned, it is 14 days from when we start processing it (after we receive it).
I can see your return was processed on the 13th day so this was all done within the expected timeframe and you should have recived the refund by now.

I love the clothes from Manners London. The fabric is such a good quality and the clothes are shaped to hug your curves in the most flattering way! I never felt comfortable in a form-fitted dress before, but these ones look amazing on me!

So Comfortable!
I have been waiting so long to buy one of these tops. They aren’t cheap & I wasn’t sure if it was a gimmick. I have several immune conditions where my chest swells & it can be very difficult to wear a bra at times. Anyway the black November sale thingy come up so I went for the cheapest top that was a crop top. I am so pleased I did. It really is so comfortable and totally unnoticeable that I have no bra on. I am a big lady up top I got XL & we compared to it my Asda cami’s that are quite tight and there really is no comparison. No need for tit tape either! Bonus! It also couldn’t have arrived at a better time, having a bit of a dip & wearing this under jumpers & cardi’s, superb! I would even wear it in the summer & feel 100% Confident wearing it.
