Extremely rude and unprofessional service – avoid this location

I had an absolutely unacceptable experience at Locauto Siena, particularly with an employee named Marta Bertazzo.

I arrived to collect a car that I had booked through Booking.com. My reservation was still showing as active and confirmed, yet Marta simply told me that there was no car available.

The lack of a car was frustrating enough, but the way the situation was handled was far worse. Marta showed absolutely no willingness to listen to my explanation or help clarify what had happened.

I called Booking.com directly. Their representative asked to speak with Marta, so I handed her my phone with the call on speaker. Marta then deliberately switched the call from speaker mode so that I could no longer hear the conversation, spoke to the Booking.com representative in Italian rather than English, and then ended the call without explaining to me what had been discussed or resolved.

When I called Booking.com again, the representative's attitude towards me had suddenly changed and she was noticeably less helpful and friendly. I have no idea what Marta told her during the part of the conversation that she made sure I could not hear.

I then asked Marta for written proof that my reservation had supposedly been cancelled, since Booking.com was still showing it as active. She refused to provide me with any documentation. I also asked for her full name and initially she did not want to provide that either.

Throughout the entire interaction, Marta was extremely rude, dismissive and hostile. Instead of trying to help a customer who had arrived with a confirmed reservation and suddenly found herself without a car, she treated me as though I was the problem.

Mistakes and booking problems can happen. What is unacceptable is refusing to explain what happened, refusing to provide documentation, preventing a customer from hearing a conversation concerning their own reservation, and treating that customer with hostility and disrespect.

This was by far one of the worst customer-service experiences I have ever had with a car rental company. Based on the way I was treated, I strongly recommend avoiding Locauto Siena.

When we picked up the car the service was professional. She showed us a sheet of paper with already damages to the car and all the information we would need. The pick-up and drop off was fast. We also got upgraded even though we had never rented a car from Locauto. Though, it was a bit expensive compared to other rental companies we have used on holiday in Europe.
