I earned both my bachelor's and master's degrees from Liberty. I had zero issues using my military education benefits. I felt completely supported during my 5 years there. I did both online and on campus courses, so I'm familiar with both types. I had highly knowledgeable and professional educators.

Liberty University is a poor quality university. It looks good from the outside with easy admission and a lot of programs. However, that is to hook students for tuition. The university can offer so many programs because it uses poor quality instructors that teach as a side job. They figure that just because someone has a PhD they can teach and that is not true. Some instructors are outright unprofessional and it is obvious they are not taking the time needed to grade assignments since this is a side job for them. Such a poor institution and I am glad I left.

I contacted Liberty right away and explained to them the above issue, they told me that someone would be in contact with me, it's been already over 2 weeks and no one has helped me, and no one has contacted me. Again and again they told me that someone will contact me but no one is helping. They say that there's no supervisor to talk with and that i need to wait longer.

I've spent over $2,000 of my own money on the cost of attendance, and I was promised that the cost of attendance of $722 would go into my bank account on the 25th of January, but no money was transferred into my bank account even until today, February 10.

So, I contacted Liberty and explained to them that I had spent $2,000 on the cost of attendance and needed the $722 that they promised would go into my bank account. They told me that they took the money for themselves instead.

The amount of stress and pain that Liberty is causing me is unbearable.

If you’re a veteran, you need to take your GI bill and get away from this predatory company. You will learn more from YouTube. I’ve never once received any worthwhile engagement from any of the “professors” online.
It is fun to talk to an advisor about degree potentials but you must remember, that excitement wears off quick. Once you’re in the door and they have your money, you are dead to them. Don’t let them steal what you earned.
Also, in the professional world a Liberty university degree is a micro step up from something like Phoenix Online. Go get a state university degree and avoid being laughed out of the interview (and also gain some knowledge).

When I say ridiculous. I mean ridiculous decision. No one advise anything, they're there to collect. They refuse to help you with choosing the right class. They're too busy trying to get you to enter a class And not transfer any of your prior credit classes to avoid losing $$$. Telling you your not obligated to take a certain course to only try to pressure you to take it anyway. Again $$. Your a non-factor until your not a student. Then harassment calls after you exit. The technical supporter is rude and lazy so if you need help with a curriculum that isnt loading you take the chance to fail bc of they're issues. . The way the last instructor critique allowing me to go through the entire semester to fail me constantly making a big deal about essay guidelines after completing several 800 word essays it was never good enough. oh, and bible scriptures at the end of each essay mandatory. I gave her a piece of my mind before dropping out. The fact she knew she was going to fail me having me complete massive assignments was absurd. She teaches psych. Quantitative/Qualitative research if you see her run.

Do your home work on these universities before enrolling. Their full of it.

Good luck getting off their call list, this is borderline harassment. I've tried calling to get them to stop calling, I've tried blocking the number, still get 16 phone calls a week.

Their "School of Aeronautics" has no respect for the residents of Farmville, a small town an hour from their campus. They use our small airport (despite having their own airport in Lynchburg) for training purposes and fly extremely low, over and over, above homes and businesses (even within the town limits). At peak times, there can be 20 plus planes per day doing this, as early as 7 am and as late as 10 pm. Attempts to contact them about this have been disregarded.

Everything was going fine for the criminal justice doctoral program (started Jan. 2021) until the dissertation phase with the committee. What was initially advertised as having great jobs with higher pay and a completion time of about 2.5 to 3 years with a cost of less than $41k total tuition resulted in over 5 years and six figures of debt with no ROI. They forced me to repeat the same dissertation courses for over 2 years to rack up costs, denied all complaints, and committee change requests. Further, years of lost wages and opportunities that could've been pursued instead of doing this program. The committee didn't even read my manuscript but was giving feedback on things that resulted in further delays and frustrations. Lost countless grant scholarship opportunities as well due to lacking research advisors and competent people.

I found out quickly that the school was not based on these basic principles, but expects their students to fully buy in, boarding on indoctrination. None of this is upfront or clear to applicants before or during the application process. It is entirely concealed until financial commitment is finalized. As I had not engaged in any of the courses (I hadn't completed any assignments and hadn't had any interaction with the professors) and having it never been clear how engrained religion would be in the curriculum, I deciding to withdraw and requested a refund for my first semester payment. Despite this, the university refused to refund me in will. Instead, they kept 25% of my tuition payment. That's a very significant amount of money for an underpaid teacher. A total money grab in my opinion, and incredibly UN-Christian in my.

They have opened two fraudulent accounts in my name, there is no phone number to contact them, they are more than happy to mess up my credit and take there sweet time fixing there mess up.

Liberty University Online is deceptive and discriminatory. They accepted my transcript, registered me, and took full cash tuition after assuring me I could take the courses required for my Florida counseling license.

Then came the excuses: first, “no prerequisites” (nonsense — I hold a Master’s in Counseling). Next, “your degree is too old.” After 20+ years of professional experience, they dismissed my education as expired.

This is age discrimination and predatory practice. Liberty wasted my time, took my money under false pretenses, and disrespected my career.

Warning to professionals: Liberty will promise you everything, take your money, and then deny you.

The admin people were/are nice and professional with me.

However, once I enrolled and took my first class, it was a different ball game.

I immediately dropped all current and future courses at Liberty without penalty either prior to their start date or during drop/add week following their policies without penalty.

I dropped all courses except for one due to how low the educational value was for me.

There has been no real "teaching". For me, the doctoral level class and associated department has been awful. This is literally one and done for me.

I have outside educational funding with a deadline that basically pigeon holed me into Liberty University as they are one of the few schools with numerous program options, ability and willingness to process complicated education funding.

The whole experience with this one course has been poor. I am learning from this experience that graduate level education is something that I will never choose to pursue at Liberty University.

I may opt for an undergrad language training program just to use up my benefits after this current "graduate" level doctoral class is over with. However, my opinion of Liberty University is now permanently soured.

I don't understand why I see so many poor reviews for Liberty University, where I'm currently a student. I must say, my experience is quite the opposite from theirs. I'm sure there are many variables involved in each person's experiences. I can only say good things about mine. My fiance also attends Liberty, and he is thrilled with the school just as I am. All of my professors have been very helpful. One of my fiance's professors went above and beyond his normal duties to help him when he was struggling with a class. Anytime we have to call the school for assistance of any kind, there's not a long wait, and the representatives that I've spoken to were knowledgeable, helpful, and courteous. It's unfortunate that so many people feel the way they do, but it's their opinion and they are entitled to it.

The purpose of this review is to warn any prospective student before taking the next step with this university. Once you enroll at Liberty University, your voice will not be heard.
I don’t typically write reviews, but when injustice occurs, I feel a responsibility to speak out. I have been attending Liberty University for just over nine months, and my experience has been nothing short of disappointing and disheartening.
I enrolled at the doctoral level, expecting to be taught, supported, and guided through the rigorous academic process. Instead, I was thrown into advanced coursework with the assumption that I already possessed extensive doctoral-level knowledge. For context: I earned my Master’s degree in 2007. I’ve been out of school for over 16 years. From the beginning, support was minimal—and often nonexistent.
This past term was by far the worst. It was my second attempt at this particular course, and I knew going in that it would be challenging. I expected to receive more support this time around—but that didn’t happen. I noticed I was performing worse in this term than I did previously, despite turning in my assignments on time and reaching out for help.
In my frustration, I contacted the advising team, only to be given conflicting information. I was told I could switch instructors—but that was not true. I remained assigned to Dr. Valerena Candy and was told instead to seek tutoring.
I took that advice seriously. I met with tutors, reviewed my assignments, and submitted my work with confidence. Despite my efforts, I still received poor grades. When I reached out to Dr. Candy for clarity, she spoke with a heavy accent and explained things in a way that was confusing and over my head. After our Microsoft Teams meeting, I was even more confused.
Eventually, I filed a formal complaint with the university, detailing my experience with both Dr. Candy and the advising team. This is the response I received:
• “The grades earned on assignments reflected your ability to comprehend and provide the appropriate responses—not the amount of assistance you received from Professor Candy or any other professor.”
• “Earning good grades is dependent on following the assignment instructions and providing the requested information in a doctoral-level manner.”
• “Your assignments were graded in accordance with the appropriate grading rubric by Professor Candy.”
These statements completely dismissed the issues I raised—specifically, the lack of instructional support, the inconsistency in advising, and the impact on my academic performance. Liberty University may stand behind their faculty—as any institution should—but they clearly do not conduct thorough investigations into legitimate student concerns. And I know I am not the only student who has experienced this.
They likely silence students like me, or hope that no one reads these reviews—while continuing to boost enrollment numbers and collect tuition. Perhaps their blind trust in faculty stems from the belief that, as a Christian university, their instructors always act with integrity. But unfortunately, that trust is misplaced.
To make matters worse, there is no meaningful help with research papers. The writing lab is ineffective and a complete waste of time. Every interaction I had with the registrar’s office was marked by rudeness and apathy. The staff acted like helping students was an inconvenience. If helping students is a burden, you should not be in student services.
If you’re considering Liberty University, I strongly urge you: take your money elsewhere. Go to a university that will support, respect, and value you as a student. Liberty University failed me—and I hope this review helps someone else avoid the same frustration, isolation, and emotional toll.

There is nothing fake or exaggerated about this review. This is the real experience of a real student, treated this way by both faculty and staff.

I started with Liberty University for a BA in Psychology in Feb of 2020. My goal was to be a middle or high school counselor. But once I got my degree, I was hired by a middle school in my district to be an art teacher. I decided to stick with Liberty to get my masters in secondary education which I was told included the teaching license. The only thing was, I needed to take art classes for the content area that I was to teach in as if I had of taken a BA in art. I was told by the advisors that I could take the MAT classes along side the art classes. This was true to a point. Because they are not a part of the master’s classes, FAFSA will not pay for them, but they are required for me to get my license and I cannot afford to pay out of pocket Liberty’s prices. I had 7 art classes left that I needed to take as I could not take them all alongside my MAT classes. I was then advised by their advisory team that I could finish the MAT classes (including student teaching), then come back to school for an Associates degree where I could finish the last 7 classes having then completed the content and get my license. So, based on what I was told, this is the path that I took.
I then went to register for the student teaching as that was the last course, I needed to take to finish this all and was told by student advisors that I could not do the student teaching until all the art classes were taken. A direct opposite what had been told to me before. I had to stop the licensure part of the MAT and finish with a capstone. I was told by advisors that I could still do the associates degree. This last month with a few weeks left for the MAT classes, I went to get registered for the associate’s classes only to be told by the advisors I could not do it that way as I had too many credits that would transfer and would not be able to take the art classes. I was then told by student advisors that I could take another BA in art and it would cover the 7 classes I needed, plus taking two more extra. This morning I got an email from the content advisory telling me that only 5 of my art content classes would be covered by a BA in art as two of them are graduate level, which I could take with my student teaching, but would have to pay out of pocket. My only other options according to their advisory team is to start a new MAT and take another 60 credits to be able to get those 7 classes and finish my student teaching.
All of this has cost me close to 80,000 in student loans now, because of their lies or ineptness whichever it is, it is taking me twice as long to get my teaching license which I have already been teaching on a yearly stipulation license for 2 years. I’m about to be fired again as they do each year to those without licenses, because I have not been able to finish this. I was told today that I could be hired back as a building substitute, which is a huge reduction in salary. I cannot live on this as we are barely making it on my teaching salary. (I help support my retired parents and one of my sons who is in school). All of these things are because Liberty has lied over and over again and pushed more classes, most of which are completely unusable. This capstone has us watching a video of a live class each week, but we still have to do student teaching once back in the licensure content. It is a waste of money and my time. I am heartsick that they are messing up my future because of greed. My brother also attended Liberty university for his BA and in one class accidentally turned in his notes instead of the essay and got 100 points on it, she never even looked at it, that’s the teachers they have at this school.

No help from teachers. Advisors do not call you after you are admitted in the school. The teachers do not help you, you are expected to either know it or fail.

I just had a bad experience that's all maybe different for someone one else.

This place is terrible someone compromised my ssn and opened up student loans under 2 different names and I called because I got information from another source that this was the location it was taken from and they were no help said they would call back and never did.

Liberty has been a big help to me over the years. I studied more than a decade there. There are certainly professors that are not good. There are several things that I do not like. First, all of the online programs I researched there are easily distinguishable from the residential programs. They have made it so the online students are easily culled out of the job market as many employers see online degrees as a second class education. This is a big problem for me. For this reason, I feel like students that are paying for a first class education online at Liberty University are being cheated. Second, There is some inconsistency as some programs are lengthy and require entirely too much reading and writing. Finally, there seems to be a leadership problem. There are great conflicts going on there and I feel like this problems starts with those at the very top levels of leadership. This in turn trickles down to the department directors and impact the student body.

I have completed the coursework for the Liberty University's Doctorate of Strategic Leadership program and am 8 months into my dissertation. To be clear, DO NOT ENROLL IN THIS PROGRAM. I was lured in by the great military and public safety discount, and the coursework was interesting and worthwhile, but the dissertation process is a complete mess. So few students were able to finish the broken program that they completely reworked it immediately before me. However, it is still broken beyond repair. I have two other doctorates; one is from the Liberty University School of Government, and I have never seen anything in academia as dysfunctional as their dissertation process. It started with them completely changing the topic that I wanted to do my dissertation on, and ignored my appeal to do something that would be valuable to my military organization. Then, I was assigned a dissertation lead without my input and told I could not change him (however, he is the only rational faculty member I've come into contact with in this process). Then they assign a "research methodologist" who does whatever she wants in contrast to published dissertation guidelines, they clearly have a policy of making students rewrite every submission a minimum of 4 times, just because, and this is after another faculty member has already approved it. To add insult to injury, this methodologist sends back written work products for re-writing and provides feedback in grammatically incorrect sentences and broken English. I appealed thrice to the Dean of the Business school, who just stamped it "denied" without any consideration, follow-up, or feedback. There is no way out of this mess of a program—total amateur hour. Go through ANY OTHER program and you'll be a lot happier.
