We used Journey Japan eSIM for our 4 week trip to Japan and it worked perfectly from start to finish. Set up was easy with no issues, and the cell service was excellent all across Japan (including more rural areas). Highly recommend to anyone coming to Japan, we found it to be very reliable and made travelling around much easier.

Sorry to leave a one star review, my partner also purchased this same eSim and had a great experience.

We recently took a 22 day trip to Japan, so we each purchased this eSim.

My partner received their email with the activation info immediately, but mine did not arrive.

Once we arrived in Japan, I tried again to see if my email had arrived but it had not.

I had to react and purchase a sim in person from Narita Airport as I could not get in touch with Journey eSim reps.

I was finally able to get in touch with a rep 9 days later, and was informed that even though my activation email did not arrive, there was no system in place for returns or refunds. It's disappointing to lose money for a product I never received.

Again, my partner had the same eSim and it was great, I however did not receive the product in a timely fashion so I cannot rate the product highly.

Went on a month long trip to Japan this summer, which took us from Sapporo, in Hokkaida, to Osaka, to Kyoto and Tokyo, all the way through using the JJ eSIM, and never even had to think about it, because it just worked. Really fast and completely reliable.

After following the Abroad in Japan Youtube Channel for quite some time I decided to give the eSIM service a try and bought the 10GB plan a day before the flight to Tokyo. The setup took less than 5 minutes and after arriving at Narita Airport the eSIM worked right away. During my 2 week stay in Tokyo and the Kansai region I had no issues with reception. The price is pretty close to large eSIM competitors and since Journey Japan focuses on just one country instead of worlwide coverage it felt like the most reliable choice.

We just got back from our trip to Japan. We were researching eSims to see which one would be best for us, and it so happened that Chris announced their eSim a few weeks before we were set to leave. That made out decision easier.

Overall, it worked perfectly!
We were there for two full weeks.
I am not a streamer or have a need for tons of data due to work, but I do use social media apps, the internet and google maps. I ended up choosing the option of 10GB of data, since my husband used Google maps for us on his phone majority of the time, and I think I only ended up using about 8GB by the time we returned.

If you will be using Google maps on your phone a lot, and also staying two weeks, I would go with the plan that has 20 GB or the Unlimited plan.

I will say that there were a couple of instances where my husband and I both lost service entirely. Once when we were in Osaka, a couple of times when we were at Tokyo Disney Sea, and on occasion when we would be passing through a tunnel on the train.

What we noticed is that, during most instances we were in a huge crowd of people. Unsure if being in crowded places affects the service in some way? So I would just be mindful of that. The outage of service didn't last long, as soon as we were out of the group of people, or the tunnel, the service returned.

If we return to Japan in the future, I am sure we would get this eSim again.

Have used JJeSim twice on two separate trips to Japan and will continue to do so in the future!

I had never used an eSIM before and wanted super reliable cellular data for our 30 day trip to Japan. Journey Japan delivered. I was able to turn it on upon arrival at the airport easily. I turned both of our cell phones WHILE I was waiting in line at immigration. The instructions were clear and helpful. Having the ability to use my translation app work seamlessly was a super important lifeline, and we connected to good local networks consistently. Over 5 large cities and 30 days, I had functional cell data 95% of the time. I can’t understate how important the constant use of our phones were in Japan. This eSIM plan kept us connected!

It was 100% reliable for my whole trip from Tokyo to Okinawa!

Worked well for the week we were in Japan, competitive price, better gig offering for price, and great connectivity. Only critique or feedback is if there’s a way to have two phones share the gigs since neither my husband nor I came even close to using all 20gb per plan and that part feels wasteful (if combined we would’ve been at least half usage 😂). I don’t know if this would be possible so maybe some lower gb options for shorter stays even if all plans are for 30 days.

I did use it a lot. Without a good esim I will be totally lost in Japan. This was the best I ever used. I am very glad that I did trust this website. For 3 weeks any problem and the price is very very good. Highly recommend

I had nearly 0% issue with the internet. If you are underground or deep in the mountains, it's obvious signal will be spotty. My friends chose other esims and kept complaining through the 2 weeks trip their internet connection is bad. Not me! JJEsim is one of the best.

Ignore any other SIM company for Japan, this is the one to use. You don't get a tiny sliver of network that you'll fight other people for, you get a proper connection experience. I tried Saily, and I got no data standing at the base of the Tokyo Government Building. With Journey Japan eSIM I was browsing memes on top of Mt Shinhotaka and finding food in Katsuyama while at Lake Kuzuryu. And then when we got back to Osaka, the connection was spectacular and I was able to walk Dotonbori with confidence.

Competitively priced, just as simple to set up as other eSIMs and you support a genuine person and company rather than a faceless corporation.

I travelled to Japan in September, and being an Abroad in Japan fan it was an easy choice to go with a JJ esim. Set up was very easy, despite being technologically challenged. Upon arrival I immediately had WiFi coverage which never failed during my trip, unlike the esims that my friends had. I can't wait for my next trip to Japan when I'll absolutely be using another JJ esim. Thanks for making such a great product!

Very easy to set up and a reliable connection

I've used Ubigi back in 2024 for my Japan trip and while it worked in Tokyo, I had connectivity issues in Kyoto. Come 2025 I decided to give this one a try and to help support Chris' new business. I was pleasantly surprised I had no drop in service even when I was out in the countryside, and I was out there for weeks. We're talking countryside that still only accepts cash. If you're looking for reliability, this is the eSim you want.

Easy to use, full signal 99% of the time (only issue was when we were climbing one mountain in Hokkaido), would buy again!

This was the first time using an eSIM on my phone and it was exceptionally easy to order and set up! Everything worked great and we could travel Japan without worrying about connectivity at all.

Setup was easier than expected and wherever I went the connection was solid and delivered. When planning a trip to a country that's not run on English, it gave me peace of mind to know that my internet connection was reliable so that I could check Google Maps & Google Translate lol Also I loved uploading all my photos and videos to the socials instantly

At the airport, I couldn't get the eSIM card to work right away. I asked one of the stores that also sold eSIM cards if they could help me. A few quick fingers flew across my phone, and 30 seconds later, your eSIM was working. And it works everywhere! We've been traveling for 12 days (9 more to go), and whether we're on the train, in the car, or on our bike, it works as it should. My girlfriend has a card from a competitor, but it doesn't work as well. I say, keep it up!

Set up was really easy, I was connected before getting to baggage collection! Didn't lose coverage once which was really important as we had a campervan and relied heavily on data for navigation. The price was very reasonable too. I will definitely use again on my next trip.
