Build a Strong Core is an outstanding course for low to medium intermediate French speakers. I have taken Alliance Française courses over several years and have a level of B2.2. The material in Build a strong core was not new to me but was a comprehensive review of important skills (ou compétences) very well explained and full of good examples. Hugo and team have done a wonderful job of providing interesting and topical material for each day, generally followed by a grammar lesson and a quiz (or several). The interface for the quizzes worked very well. This course is well worth the investment in time and money.

When I started learning French, I was looking for some content I could use but everything seemed too complicated, and then I heard Hugo on Youtube and I actually understood what he was saying. That was a big moment. Since then, I have been following the Innerfrench podcast, which has greatly helped me to perceive and understand spoken and written French. Through the podcast I learned about the language courses. I started with Build a Strong Core and continued with Raconte ton histoire. Amazing! Both are perfectly structured with lots of engaging content. It’s like learning a language through stories with easy-to-understand grammar explanations and exercises – the perfect balance. I also greatly appreciate the lifetime access to the content once paid for. It really helps. I can always go back to topics I am still struggling with and decipher grammar when reading in French. The further I go with the Innerfrench content, the more interesting it gets. A big thank you to Hugo and the team. Now I am ready to discover what the Les connais-tu? and Les visages de Paris courses have to offer. Can’t wait.

I recently completed the B2 level course. This is what I needed to help me get used to hearing French spoken at a normal pace. Watching the video multiple times really did help with my comprehension. There are also some grammar lessons interspersed with exercises. Doing about 30 minutes a day regularly I saw real progress in my French comprehension.

There's been so much intelligence embedded in this course! The video introduction to each chapter is interesting in its own right, usually related to French culture or history and then the grammar that spins out from it is really well explained. The practice exercises are pitched just right, with audio clips to illustrate and test understanding of oral French as well.
There's no getting away from the fact that French grammar has its complexities, but Hugo explains these better than anywhere else I have seen. His flow charts really nail it! Hey ho!
I've seen from the Sorbonne website that they recommend the Inner French podcasts. Well this course flows with the same qualities that make those podcasts sing: relaxed but well researched, instructive but entertaining and with plenty of downloadable resourses to retain and use. I've finished the course now, but its not going to stop there!

This is a great course! I cannot believe how much my French has improved over the past 4 weeks by listening to Hugo Cotton's podcast each day and completing my daily lessons in the course each evening. The course platform is well organized. I especially love that each day there is a segment on French culture before moving into the grammar lesson. The quizzes are the perfect follow up to each section. If you are in the B1 range with your French, you can't go wrong by purchasing this course!

I was studying for the DELF B1 exam and was looking for a tool to help me with grammar. The "Build a Strong Core" course was just what I needed. I watched every lesson, took every exam and enjoyed the videos introducing each chapter using the new grammar. Plus, so much new vocabulary! I am happy to report I passed the exam with a high score! Thank you Hugo and team for putting together such a useful course!

InnerFrench is a super-useful program for intermediate French learners. Hugo's emphasis on listening and comprehension combined with some essential grammar is aimed at the right level to challenge the intermediate student without creating the boredom/frustration of other online courses. The substantive material is interesting and relevant, and the quizzes in each lesson are good measures of progress on elements that can cause problems for those trying to learn French. Hugo also provides resources for additional French-language material and excellent tips on how to learn a second language most effectively. I made measurable progress in Hugo's course, which also made me want to continue to the next level. I cannot recommend this program highly enough.

I think my level of French can be best described as patchy. Over the years, I've become more confident by training my ear with podcasts, but I felt decidedly stuck at the intermediate level with many grammar gaps. The Building a Strong Core course has gone a long way towards plugging those gaps while learning about French culture. Each days lesson included aural practice followed by a grammar tutorial and quizzes. The explanations were clear and illustrations practical and relevant to everyday practice. The early lessons felt straight forward but they quickly progressed to more complex topics. Perfect to consolidate and build my knowledge and competence as an intermediate. Highly recommend.

Build a Strong Core was the perfect course for me. I have been learning French off and on for many years. I can communicate but this course helped me realize some of the aspects of the language that with a little attention I could put into practice to sound more professional. I started the course in 2021 and finished four years later in 2025. I would start, get busy and stop. Then go back and review and work through the lessons again. The format with a general presentation on a topic and then a presentation on areas to focus on in the language kept me interested. Some days were frustrating as I realized I had never used a language item before (relative and comparative pronouns - 🙄). The quizzes really helped me know where I needed to focus even if I didn’t quite understand the concept. The other aspect of the course I really liked is that once I purchased it I could review and redo parts as many times as I wanted. I could use it at my own pace. So… 4 years of usage so far to get to the end, but well worth every moment and penny. Thanks, Inner French, for putting together such great and impactful learner materials.

After purchasing one of their courses (intermediate French), my account was deleted. I have no way to access the material and no recourse,

I automatically wrote my review in French (clearly the excellent result of my Inner French studies !). But of course, it would make more sense in English. The bottom line, Inner French is terrific, I started with the C1 course, which I loved, and have worked backwards through B2 and B1 to improve my fundamentals.

I have great respect for Hugo and Ingrid, they have crafted courses that are exceptional AND interesting.

Inner French a évolué pour devenir ma « go-to » ressource pour apprendre le français. Après avoir obtenu le DELF B2, je me suis inscrite sur le site pour suivre le cours C1 à Paris. Je l’ai adoré, il était parfaitement aligné avec mes compétences en compréhension orale et vocabulaire. Quand j’ai complété tout le cours disponible, je me suis rendu compte que, bien que j’aie mon certificat de niveau B2, mes bases pourraient être plus solides. Du coup, je me suis inscrite au cours Inner French B2. Ça m’a beaucoup aidée à raffiner l’usage correct des temps de verbe.

Puis, après avoir fait un petit bilan avec un professeur sur iTalki, qui a montré mes faiblesses sur les « petites » choses vraiment importantes si on veut utiliser la langue comme une personne instruite, j’ai décidé de faire le cours B1.

Je sais que mon parcours était un peu fou, mais comme beaucoup de mes amies qui apprennent le français en tant qu’adultes hors du système scolaire, j’ai des trous dans mon aisance avec la langue.

Hugo et Ingrid, avec leurs cours bien construits, intéressants et ciblant les problèmes typiques d’une élève, ont fait toute la différence pour moi. Et les cours sont malins, pas typiques, et ils me motivent beaucoup. Je pense que ce sera la même chose pour vous si vous cherchez un cours qui peut augmenter votre niveau tout en vous introduisant à un pays, une société et une ville (Paris) hors des sentiers touristiques et romantiques.

This is a great course run by real people who are contactable and love the language. I was drawn to it by Hugo’s podcasts. I love how the course is planned, it’s immersive, it’s relevant and the huge bonus is, that once purchased it’s there forever. It’s regularly updated and is an excellent tool for revision. It’s certainly encouraged me to continue to learn French.

I obtained my DALF C1 diploma a few years ago, but I needed to review some common mistakes, refresh my grammar, and improve my listening skills. This course really helped me to do that. Since it was so interesting, I ended up immersing myself completely in it. I really enjoyed the course. Hugo is an excellent teacher and made me understand why French is such a fascinating language. It’s also interesting that French people love to debate important subjects.

I read a recent negative comment, but please don’t take it seriously. People tend to be quite extreme these days. Hugo always provided different perspectives, including both positive and negative aspects of a subject in the class.

As I am currently living in Paris, I look forward to completing the C1 course. I really hope InnerFrench will eventually offer more C1–C2 content in the future. As someone who truly wants to master French, I still struggle with some complex issues. That’s the drawback of taking so many courses in life—you sometimes realize there are still gaps.

In conclusion, I highly recommend this course. However, I should point out that it does not include conversation classes, as already mentioned on the website.

Gut aufgebaut, die richtige Menge an Hören, Schreiben, grammatik und Tests. Aber ich habe den Kurs nicht in 30 Tagen gemacht, sondern ein halbes Jahr dafür gebraucht. Das ist gut, dass man das Tempo selbst bestimmen kann. Einige Lektionen will ich noch mal wiederholen. Hat mur immer Spaß gemacht.

I have finished two courses on InnerFrench - Build a strong core followed by Raconte ton histoire. Both are very useful and interesting. They explain grammar in a clear way, give some exercises, and what is really cool that the lessons are just interesting.
What's really unique and very practical, is that you have unlimited access to these courses. I went back to redo them after more than a year break when I had to prepare for an exam.
I also like a lot podcasts of InnerFrench, by the way! All program is highly recommended if you want to learn language and have fun

It’s a good podcast for learning French. But it should be clear that this person is not impartial—very woke and left-leaning. Always pro-vaccine, pro–big government, pro–high taxes, and constantly justifying equality at all costs (everyone equally poor). It’s the same old garbage you can hear anywhere, always seeking out information that fits their narrow view of life. A real shame

Merci pour tous tes emails. Tu parles lentement et les mots sont bien prononcés. Je trouve que je comprends 90% au moins de chaque episode. Cependant c'est plus difficile pour moi de parler ou écrire avec aise et correctement. Le conjugation des verbes que j'ai appris a l'école il y a beaucoup des années sont oubliés, mais je suis certain que je peux améliorer si je continue d'écouter et de pratiquer les phrases difficiles dans les episodes. J'ai essayée plusiers d'autres podcasts mais ils ne sont pas de tout si professional que les tiennes.
