Took our rabbit to the Whitchurch vet and can't recommend them enough. The vet Paige was amazing, really kind and took the time examining our rabbit and talking through treatment options. We had tests... Se mer

Extremely Monetised Operation
After agreeing to leaving my cat there for observation (wasn't eating), I was contacted by clinicians with 'updates' over the weekend (including one Sunday evening!) trying to pressure me into agreeing 'urgent out of hours' scans for £900, when challenged they admitted there was no change in his condition and they weren't necessary at that stage???
Awful experience, alongside the worry of a poorly cat had to deal with an unethical organisation trying to exploit my worry to maximise profit. Treatment estimates started around £500 but when I actually left the cat they quickly started spiralling up to £4-6000. The actual treatment cost close to £1000 (by coincidence maximum insurance claim). My cat came out next day fully recovered and not needing the treatments.
Highcroft vetinary practice
Highcroft vetinary practice based at Whitchurch in Bristol. Our 18month old labrador was booked in to be neutered. Although a successful operation our dog stopped eating for 6 days after and was violently sick during this period. He was also passing digested blood in his stool. Having discussed this with the vet they seemed very keen to get our dog back in for some tests, which we did. Approx £2350 later and 1 x-ray and 1-Ultrasound along with a few blood tests the vet was no wiser as to the cause. I took my dog home fearing the worst and stopped any meds he was given. He recovered within 48hrs. Common sense suggests the meds he was given was probably the likely culprit. Some dogs don't react vey well to metacam. During the whole process i felt my dogs care was financially driven. Even after i had expressed my concern that the issue was not getting solved even though they had failed to get to the bottom of the eating/sickness issue they continued to request we bring him back for more tests and more expense. I refused. Thankfully my dog has now fully recovered, i am £2350 out of pocket and still didn,t have a proper diagnosis for the issue. I will not be using Highcroft again.
After losing my pet nearly 1 year ago
After losing my pet milo nearly 1 year ago , i have had the stress of complaining to the vet defence society about poor care , lies and poor record keeping , of course after waiting over 10 weeks for a unbiased investigation it sided with the vets which I'm not shocked about , they stated it was their word against mine and they had to side with their clients , a waste of time and a cover up from vets .
I was next advised to contact the RCVS , who suggested I request my pets clinical records , which every pet owner is entitled to ! many obstacles put in the way to obtain these .
RCVS investigated and asked for statements from vets all lies and nothing they stated were actually recorded in clinical notes , a absolute joke, I was advised by RCVS to go to mediation for my out of pocket expenses of over £600 , within 1 day this was declined , avoid these so called vets at all costs they lie to cover up poor care and fabricate untrue events , I would not recommend taking any pet you love to this vet , especially wells road ,you will pay extortionate prices and recieve poor care , I would have given a minus 5 star but there is no option sadly , avoid at all costs .
Worst thing came in November 2024 when I recieved a letter from Wells road bristol from a manager , stating our relationship had broken down ( a understatement on their part) it stated they would treat my pet for 10 days but I was advised to find another vet , if only this person knew anything about my case ( obviously not ) they would know my dog died a painful horrific death February 2024 at the hands of wells road practice
Most unethical vets you could use disgusting
Killed our dog through bad vetinary decisions and also admitting they made mistakes. Offered us compensation. We declined compensation to try and get answers.
They subsequently lied in the investigation and withdrew offer of compensation.
This vets should be ashamed and should not be practising in my view.
A brilliant local vet
It's such a shame this vet practice doesn't have a 5-star rating here, they have been amazing for us since we switched from the terrible Vets4Pets Imperial Park - who put our pets at huge risk - in 2022. The vets are kind, caring and take time to learn about your family and animals. We have a rescue who is very nervous and they've gone above and beyond to support him. They're flexible and have fair fees - the Healthy Pet Club is a great way to spread payments for basics. I can't recommend them enough.
Ignorant and poor practice.
Horrendous experience, did not provide basic treatment to my pet to help reduce a raised temperature, although were happy to carry out lots of tests if I paid over £4000. Not sure how that is supposed to help reduce a temperature! Demeanor changed after declining these tests and I was then treated like a criminal, literally! No people skills and definately do not seem to care about animals. Talk down at you and are patronising. Requested for documents as proof of treatment and tests carried out as that is our right as a customer to see the evidence that we have been charged for and they could not produce any of it other than clinical notes which upon checking there were false statements, incorrect information, missing documentation, and more. After writing in a complaint, they did not even attempt to look into their record keeping or offer to amend the mistakes, (which can be done by adding notes to make it clear for example, on such a day this was written however this was a typing mistake and should have read). Regarding the lack of care and treatment to my pet and the disgraceful way they treated me they chose to repeat what I had already told them and twist the whole concerns pointed out to them to make it appear I was doing them some sort of injustice! There are the odd few veterinary staff members that do care but as whole, I do not recommend Highcroft.
Highly recommend
The staff in the Eastiville practice are so welcoming. My dogs favourite nurse Hannah is always so lovely. She is so gentle with him.
I've had to give this a 1 star
I've had to give this a 1 star, as there's no option for zero star. Highcroft vet wells road, complaint to vet defence society for negligence against 2 female vets , findings of the amateur investigation is no case to answer !
Poor record keeping
Untrue statements of events
Inconsistencies from start to finish
Seems like a cover up by the vets
Now we find ourselves going down the complaints route then to the ombudsman.
SHAME ON YOU HIGHCROFT VETS WELLS ROAD
Absolutely crap
Absolutely crap! No communication, if you're awaiting results from any blood etc samples, expect to have to go up there to try and speak to someone. Waited 3 days and had to go to them when they were closed to get told in reception the vet has done all calls and then vet to tell us we were next on list! They couldn't organise a p**s up in a brewery! And don't even get me started on the pet plan! Thats a whole other joke in itself! Communication is non-existent. When you try to speak to them about an issue, the ladies at reception are just smug and giggling to themselves the whole time you're trying to get your point across and talk over you constantly, not interested in anything. Cannot wait to get my dogs away from this god awful place!
No longer competent regarding exotics
Originally went to Wells Road exotics as Holly was recommended as being good with pet rats. Holly was, indeed, brilliant! The ladies on reception are also very helpful and I have zero complaints about them.
Sadly, Holly left, and her replacement doesn't seem to understand pet rats at all. I have been given bad advice on 3 separate occasions, and am generally fleeced for as much money as can be drained from my purse, while not actually being given the medicines my pets require without being told to come on for countless (massively overpriced) visits. My appointments over the past few months have been, without a doubt, detrimental to the health of my pets.
I can sadly no longer recommend this company and would advise rat owners to go anywhere but here.
Terrible vets gave my dog the wronf…
Terrible vets gave my dog the wronf vaccine and now refise to treat him as i kicked up a fuss
I'm financially ruined :(
My ferret was unwell and not pooing properly, i was reccomended to bring him here as an emergency they kept him and another ferret overnight and ran tests the next day I picked him up and was given a bill of nearly £1900 and I bought my ferrets home with still no idea what was wrong I'm happy he seems a bit better but was really hoping for that amount I would find a problem and do get a feeling they tried to get as much money out of me as possible :( which sucks because I was already broke and just had to take it all on as debt
Lost my beloved dog and felt more could…
Lost my beloved dog and felt more could have been done. He became poorly and we attended Wells Road vets twice as we were concerned and were told both times he would recover and just needed time. The second time we had attended we were expecting scans for further investigations but were told it was not needed and he would recover. 24 hours he became even more unwell, pooing blood and vomiting, we called out of hours, were told to monitor yet again and within 20 minutes he had collapsed and died in my arms. 600 pounds later and now no dog. Shocking, I put my faith in them as vets and feel my dog was let down and severely suffered as a result of this. Heartbroken or an understatement.
Brilliant
Absolutely faultless.
We took our gorgeous 7 year old dog to this practice as he was unwell. He was seen by Julia who clocked straight away he was not well at all. She was kind, knowledgeable and supportive.
She kept us updated as he needed to stay. He hard a variety of tests and she was happy to say we are not totally sure what this is but he is unwell and believed it was a poor prognosis for him sadly with internal bleeding.
The next day he had emergency surgery. He was found to have a mass and a disintegrating bowel and liver. The prognosis was of the worst kind.
The following day we saw Iris who was so lovely. She knew our boy was such a special boy, our hearts were broken and the tears fell. She joined in on our tears, with such compassion. They don't make many like her. We were allowed to take our boy home for his last few hours. Later that night he passed away, leaving us bereft and heartbroken.
During the time Rupert was there he was treated like a king. All staff treated him as their own and loved him. They were all professional, kind and caring to our boy and us.
Julia has been in touch subsequently and gave us details of what the mass was and let us ask questions. It gave us some closure knowing we could not have done more. Julia had been content all the way along to let us drive his care and she gave her advice along the way. If we wanted to do anything against her judgement I know that I could have as she was so receptive to many questions and what ifs. She gave our boy the best chance of life and for that we are so grateful.
The practice manager has been so supportive and kind in her emails regarding settling the bill. No pressures from them at all given the circumstances. Compassion at his finest.
In summary, the best vets who gave over and above. Grateful Rupert was registered there. Thank you to everyone there.
I had to take my cat Wilson to the vets…
I had to take my cat Wilson to the vets in the last 2 days because he was very unwell and he was a grand old age of 17yrs ...I can not express how helpful and kind the staff were ....they offered all the help that was available but seeing how unwell he was it was best to put him to sleep...I definitely would take any pet of mine to them ....a big thankyou to you all ❤️
My cat had serious injuries to his head…
My cat had serious injuries to his head and eye. This Company let
Me and my l late sister down
Miserably. They only care about their bills being paid.
Love animals I doubt it!
Overcharging
I have used Highcroft on the Wells Road for a number of years for their exotics and small animals expertise.
Standards have really gone down hill. The last healthy pet club visits lasted literally no longer than 3 minutes and was just a waste of time making the journey. I don't feel like my dog was checked sufficiently.
Today Highcroft have tried to sell me a medicated shampoo priced at £52.09 for 200ml when there is an alternative available online and without prescription for only £15.
The Otodine ear drops prescribed today was charged at £28.43 but online is available without prescription at £15.
The vet also suggested to sedate my dog for some ear wax at a quote of over £600 without even seeing how the treatments prescribed today will work.
Will be looking elsewhere for my dog. Hopefully the exotics vets are not acting so shady.
RUBBISH
Wouldn't sell me flea stuff altho quite happy to charge me 200 for surgery that can be done for 30 elsewhere AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Couldn’t have asked for more. Brilliant Vet
Our dog was referred to Highcroft Veterinary referrals in Whitchurch Bristol with suspected slipped discs and in a lot of pain.
We were obviously very anxious but we were seen quickly by a vet named John who was very reassuring, knowledgeable and calm and answered all our questions and was very clear about all the options going forward.
We left her in the care of John and team very reassured that she was definitely getting the best possible care.
We were kept informed about her with phone calls during her stay which really helped.
On collecting her we had a hand over with John who was again excellent with us all and our dog was a lot more comfortable and John gave us a very clear plan for her recovery at home.
Although a horrid time Johns obvious compassion made it a lot easier for us.
Hidden costs charged after service
Hidden costs charged after service, taking advantage of elderly and those concerned about their loved pets. Unethical practice!
No costs of serices advertised and threatened with debt collectors when questioning the charge.
