Green Jellyfish cold called me…

Green Jellyfish cold called me informing me that they were experts in the R & D claims field. I explained that I didn't think we were legible for this type of claim.
Long and short of the story, we got our payment from HMRC but unknown to me they paid out without a compliance check, so 3 years later a whopping bill with penalties arrived from HMRC, tried to appeal but with no luck, so now saddled with paying back a huge chunk of money back. BEWARE

Avoid this company.

Avoid this company.
They have a great sales pitch and everything seems great and they even make all the HMRC jargon seem so straight forward however this is where they catch you.
At first, they are helpful and knowledgeable (or so I thought) and the whole process made sense. It was a simple and effective amendment to previous accounts which Green Jellyfish claim will save me thousands for which they then take their high percentage fee.
The process was started and we received a letter from HMRC with more queries. Green Jellyfish help answer these queries and claim its standard process but to them it is not. We then lost our claim due to not supplying sufficient evidence to R&D but green jellyfish guaranteed us that it is generic in our sector so it would be straight forward. This was not the case.
GJ rely on putting in a generic claim and bet on you not being selected for additional checks. If you done have additional checks, you are lucky - win win and you get your refund and pay GF their share ... until HMRC open your case a few years later and question you and GJ are no longer any help. OR you get questioned straight away from HMRC and GJ again suddenly cannot assist you further. GJ asked us to sign authority for them to deal directly with HMRC and this lead us to further complications with poor responses from GJ as well as late penalties. We were left with a large fine from HMRC for the work GJ carried out.
Within Green Jellyfish, their internal communication is toxic - we tried to speak to someone in charge and we had people claiming they were in charge but then the next person would claim - who was that? We were finally met with someone claiming to have senior status and only threw small print T&Cs in our faces.
This company have no way of tracking them and will only con you whether it be straight away of a few years down the line.
I wish I did my research further into this and not just read Trust Pilot - after I found Facebook pages and groups of other companies in the same boat all conned by this company.

If you do one thing today, please avoid GJF

Again, like many others on here. Green Jelly Fish lured me in to a false promise.

Pulled for a compliance check by HMRC and turns out nothing I’d done qualified for R&D although green jelly fish “R&D specialist insisted it was and suggested it was industry standard.

Anyways, here I am repaying the tax, green jelly fish have already taken their cut and will most likely get a fine from HMRC. Avoid at all costs!

Avoid at all costs

They submitted R&D claims on behalf of my company. When it was investigated by HMRC they had ZERO paperwork on how they calculated the claim. The money has to be returned to HMRC. Additionally I was fined by HMRC for making the claim.
Avoid this company at all costs, they have no morals.
It was 2 years later I was investigated by HMRC so it might all look great when they first approach you, but it will come back to seriously bite you.

ZERO stars is more deserving…

I gave them a 1 star review for all the same reasons that everyone is now experiencing & they tried to have this removed claiming I was fraudulent.

How many people are you going to do this do - you have no conscious and are bullies providing false information and getting innocent businesses into trouble.

Run and don’t look back in anger

I would strongly advise not to use this company, they refused to give me the report they sent to HMRC about my company and now HMRC want all their money back! GJF appointed Kirby and Haslam who seemed to want to defend them which is unsurprising, but it made no difference and I am faced with a 6 figure sum and possible penalties which I was assured GJF would refund their part if this happened but I was told no! Kirby and Haslam asked me for the report which I bet had and they had a copy they shared with me and I was astounded with the lies that GJF had told HMRC about my company so run as fast as you can if you want don’t want to fall into the trap a lot of us have.

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!

Where to start this?
Do not use Green Jellyfish.
A claim was put in on our behalf to HMRC, however it did not meet HMRC criteria, we were then investigated by HMRC - Green Jellyfish did not contact me about defending their claim, rather they passed me over to Kirby & Haslam Solicitors (Who are literally owned by the same people! Conflict?).

They "have seemingly" preyed on companies who are already struggling in a sector that is tight financially and give you every assurance on you are eligible.

You trust that as you are not a Tax Specialist then the Tax Specialist you appoint will be aware of Tax and legal requirements of HMRC prior to submitting a claim - these cowboys are not.

The reviews were great when I dealt with them and the recommendations I received are now turning into horror stories.

Where do I finish this?
Do not use Green Jellyfish.

*Review has had to be edited three times as the company flagged my review as breach of Trust Pilot guidelines and "harmful". In my opinion, this is yet another cause for concern for trust pilot and potential clients.*

Beware if you are putting in an r&d…

I had huge issue putting in an r&d claim through green jellyfish, they were no honest. They did not supply contracts, nor full reports in line with HMRC guidance.

Whilst green jellyfish have put standard response to this review of "We would welcome the opportunity to discuss your concerns with you directly, we take your feedback very seriously and will certainly take on board any improvements you can suggest."... they genuinely havent, they appear to have no concern aside from creaming off hefty fees for service they did provide legally or ethically.

This company made an R&D claim on my behalf. HMRC rejected it, and I received a substantial fine because the claim did not meet HMRC's threshold.

I have repeatedly requested copies of the information Gren Jellyfish submitted to HMRC and the calculations they used to make the claim.

Green Jellyfish have not provided the documentation I requested.

Green Jellyfish are now being discovered, as you can see from many bad reviews.

To the people who have submitted glowing references, please contact me when HMRC returns to you, demanding that you replay the claim.

Everyone else, stay away.

false advice

Green Jelly Fish said we had a good claim, filled out info they needed, Got the dreaded letter from HMRC to state declined due to the info Green Jelly Fish sent them( to which i had no copy of to approve the claim) What they had put on the form was not anything /information i gave them

Green Jelly Fish told HMRC that i developed an hoist lolol. What utter nonsense. I then complained about what they had put in the claim so they put a new claim in stating to me that it will be ok and not to worry and that i have a good case.

No i didn't have a good case and they new it. but GJF still sent me a bill

What scammers, lead people into making false claims then want to send you a bill knowing dam well we cannot claim and they still want paying

If I could write a zero star review I…

If I could write a zero star review I would! The first time I knew my claim had been submitted was when I opened a letter from HMRC confirming my claim had been successful. Weeks later GJF admitted the claim had been submitted and despite asking I never received any copies of what was submitted. We spent several months unpicking the situation and in the end opted to withdraw the claim having learnt the advice we had received was terrible and that we were highly likely to be investigated by HMRC. Words fail to explain how stressful this has been, avoid, avoid, avoid!!

Be very careful!!

We submitted 2 R&D claims through Green Jellyfish in 2021 and 2022 after hearing that other care companies had received payments.
Green Jellyfish assured us that we had valid claims at the time.
HMRC have now audited them and said that we have to repay both (a combined six figure sum).
Within a few hours of notifying Green Jellyfish, they emailed back to say that their contract said that they would not be liable to pay back any of their fees (over £20,000!)
Reading the HMRC report, there is no way on earth that anyone could have thought that we had a reasonable claim in the first place, never mind a 'tax specialist'. They are only interested in their commission!!!

A world of pain

I am going to keep this simple as there is more to come.

They continue to hold our money and show no sign of paying it back. Despite numerous attempts to contact GJ, we were met by the usual 'send over screenshots and we'll sort it out'. Then nothing. Even the Customer Services address they give here was met with 'Your message to customerservices (emal) has been blocked.'

For us, it's been a truly terrible experience.

Two claims were non-compliant

Two claims submitted by Green Jellyfish were raised as non-compliant by HMRC. I had two refunds to pay at once, which is a significant financial burden for a small business. I trusted Green Jellyfish to know what to claim, but I’m hugely disappointed and frustrated in this outcome. Think carefully before proceeding

A very painful personally and…

A very painful personally and financially distressing experience.

At no point was I asked the BEIS guidelines which HMRC need to qualify for R&D.

Green Jellyfish threatened me with a legal letter for writing a review previously and tried to demand I write an apology on this platform.

Everything I have written is legitimate and true and can be backed up with paperwork and emails.

It is now 11:30pm and I am sitting and working on answering 30 questions from HMRC about the Green Jellyfish claims and it is nothing short of horrific emotinally and mentally. World of pain.

In response to the message below I did not trust working with another arm of Green Jellyfish after never receiving the correct qualifying questions for R&D in the first place. So therefore I thought it much wiser to deal with HMRC directly. I was also advised to do this as the trust between myself and Green Jellyfish had been broken.

WE WERE STUNG BY THIS JELLYFISH!

This company contacts you, reviews your business, tells you can claim, so you claim, which at this point you have paid them a percentage of your claim, for then HMRC to review and tell you you can’t claim. You then have to pay HMRC back, possibly with a fine and this appalling company keeps the percentage and won’t refund. SCANDALOUS! Stay well away.

Green Jellyfish has been super helpful…

Green Jellyfish has been super helpful and have managed to claim some very useful amounts of money back from HMRC, for R&D items in my company.

My own accountant is very good for most things, but as with it seems most accountants, for R&D reclaims, not really keyed in to that at all.

At first (last year, 2023), I was quite skeptical about a company called ‘Green Jellyfish’ when they contacted me about an R&D reclaim. However, I got my accountant to verify them and their services, and I’m very glad I did.

They offer an insurance policy for a reasonable amount which guarantees the claim value, irrespective of HMRC accepts the figures or not, and it covers the value refunded if HMRC every was to query the claim at a later date. If HMRC do want to check further into the claims, Green Jellyfish handle everything, and there will be no cost to my company whatsoever.

All in all, great company, providing a super service
