Van service
We rented a Volkswagen, and the car itself was great, no problems at all. What disappointed us was the airport pickup to get the car and check in. The company only has one van, and they didn't count the number of people waiting. We had to split up; only the main driver went to get the car while the rest of us waited at the airport (they were already more than an hour late). When the van returned, they wouldn't let us in. Our driver had to come to the airport with the rental car to pick us up. It took about two hours to get the car.

Great team
Great team, a large selection of vehicules, it's seems quite small (the office) but they have around 400 cars, the contract is well done no surprise, the team speaks really weel english (I'm French). I booked via booking. I recommand !

We got a Ford Puma
We got a Ford Puma, good car there, but their was already damage to the rear right, and i ordered navigation in the booking but they brought first enough another car without that, after about 50 min they brought the Puna with nav and automatic gear, which performed allright in the hills.
They said i should take photos before and after the rental, so i did, but i was feeling not so happy about that damage. But after the rent no problems.

I would strongly advise people to think…
I would strongly advise people to think twice before using Funchal Drive.
We had the car for just six days when the clutch failed. We reported the problem immediately, stopped driving the vehicle and followed the instructions Funchal Drive gave us.
Despite this, we were charged nearly £900 for the clutch repair. We disputed the charge because the vehicle had failed after only six days in our possession and we had acted responsibly by reporting the problem immediately and not continuing to drive it.
We repeatedly asked Funchal Drive to provide us with a mechanical report showing what had caused the clutch failure and evidence that we were responsible for the damage. Instead of providing this evidence, we were repeatedly threatened with legal action and told that they would pursue the matter. No mechanical report was ever provided to us, and no lawsuit was ever brought against us.
We then took the matter to the ombudsman in an attempt to resolve the dispute fairly. Funchal Drive subsequently took a further £400 from us as a “dispute fee”, leaving us around £1,300 out of pocket.
The whole experience was incredibly stressful. We genuinely tried to resolve the matter reasonably and asked for evidence to support the charge, but felt that we were met with threats rather than transparency.
Having had the vehicle for only six days, reported the fault immediately, stopped driving and followed their instructions, we feel the way this situation was handled was completely unacceptable.
We would never use Funchal Drive again and would strongly recommend others carefully consider their experience before booking with this company.

Nice Car, But Serious Safety Concerns
The car itself was nice, but unfortunately the condition of the vehicle was unacceptable. The tires were extremely worn/bald, and the rear brakes were essentially gone, which made us very uncomfortable driving it, especially given the weather conditions.
We raised our concerns right away, but the only option offered was to continue driving the vehicle and bring it back to be repaired at a later time that did not work with our schedule. I asked if we could simply return the vehicle because we did not feel it was safe to drive, but no reasonable alternative was provided.
Regardless of how nice a rental car may be, basic safety items like tires and brakes should be properly inspected before a vehicle is given to a customer. We should never have been put in the position of having to decide whether to continue driving a vehicle we had already expressed serious safety concerns about.

Le pire était à venir !!
Je vous ai déjà fait part de mon mécontentement (pour ne pas dire de ma colère) après une location de voiture (Ford Puma) à l'agence intitulée Funchal Drive. Ils ont effectué un prélèvement de près de 1400 € pour un embrayage HS (après avoir parcouru 500 km environ), début juin.
Cette fois récidive !!
Prélèvement de 1500€, sans motif !! Si cela ne s'appelle pas des escros ...
Comment pouvez-vous m'expliquer ce débit (qui est à votre nom) ?
Comme je me suis aperçu assez rapidement de ce débit, j'ai aussitôt fait opposition à ma carte bancaire. Heureusement, car plusieurs autres tentatives ont été effectuées dans la soirée. Certes, ma banque aurait dû être plus vigilante (je vais régler cette triste affaire avec eux), mais tout de même ! FUNCHAL DRIVE = ESCROCS, VOLEURS, BANDITS

Most of the experience was good
Most of the experience was good, but at car return there was a "Light Scratch" to the rim, which a charge of 255 euros was attached. A charge for which there will be nothing done to the rim of the vehicle anyways to justify that charge. I understand a charge for damage but that is in excess for what is classified as a light scratch under their rental agreement. Did deter from the experience we had.

Nous avons loué une voitute pour 15 jours. Dès le 2eme jour, le véhicule a rencontré plusieurs problèmes : des voyants et messages inquietants affichés sur ld tableau de bord : freins à controler, temperature de l'embrayage trop chaude provoquant des dangereux ralentissements automatiques sur la voix express. Nous avons échangé par whatsapp le soir même. Le lendemain, nous avons décidé de nous rendre dans le bureau funchaldrive le plus proche. Après un test avec l'agent pour s'assurer que ma conduite était correcte et n'était pas à l'origine du problème d'embrayage, le vehicule nous a été changé sans aucune difficulté. Donc, une bonne experience client.

Achtung Betrug!
Auto für 180€ gemietet, Endabrechnung 577€!!!
Bei carjet gemietet inkl. Premium Versicherung- bezahlt mit Depitcard.
Kurz vor Urlaubs Beginn meldet sich Funchal Drive (wird von carjet an örtliche Rental weitergeleitet) mit E-Mails zum bestätigen, einmal bestätigt gibt es kein zurück mehr. Erpressen mit stornieren des Autos und das Geld wird nicht rückerstattet! Unsere Ankunft war um 3 Uhr morgens - also zahlten wir die extra Versicherung von 295€. 70€ Zuschlag außerhalb der Arbeitszeit obwohl sie Werbung für 24h Abholung machen!
11€ Aufpreis für den Tank obwohl wir das Auto mit einem 70% Tank bekommen und auch so wieder abgeliefert haben- trotzdem Aufschlag!
Zum Auto:
Bei dem Auto machten die Bremsen abgenutztes Geräusche - nicht vertrauenswürdig mit den steilen Straßen Madeiras.
Die Fenster gingen nicht zu 1cm Spalt - laute Fahrgeräusche das man sich nicht unterhalten konnte. Das Auto war voller Dellen und Kratzer- vermutlich wird von der Versicherung kassiert aber nie hergerichtet.
Funchal Drive darauf kontaktiert meinen sie, wir sollen in die nächste Funchal Drive Station fahren - über 1std entfernt von uns (andere Unternehmen auf Madeira kommen und tauschen das Auto aus-von anderen Gästen erfahren). Im Urlaub hab ich echt etwas besseres zu tun als einer betrügerischen Firma hinterherlaufen zu müssen!!!
Funchal Drive hat unseren Urlaub echt versaut - Frechheit!
Diese Firma ist nicht seriös sondern stark erpresserisch- wir werden weiter Schritte einleiten.

Bezüglich der Mietbedingungen möchten wir klarstellen, dass bei Auswahl eines Basistarifs eine gültige Kreditkarte auf den Namen des Hauptfahrers vorgelegt werden muss, um die Kaution bzw. den Selbstbehalt zu blockieren. Alternativ akzeptieren wir eine Debitkarte, wenn der Kunde sich für den Abschluss unserer optionalen Versicherungsleistungen entscheidet.
Alle diese Informationen stehen Ihnen bereits zum Zeitpunkt der Buchung zur Verfügung und können entsprechend geprüft werden. Für zukünftige Anmietungen empfehlen wir Ihnen, einen Tarif ohne Selbstbeteiligung zu wählen, da dieser möglicherweise besser Ihren Bedürfnissen entspricht.
Hinsichtlich des Services außerhalb unserer regulären Öffnungszeiten möchten wir informieren, dass für Abholungen und/oder Rückgaben außerhalb unserer normalen Geschäftszeiten eine entsprechende Gebühr für den Außerhalb-der-Öffnungszeiten-Service erhoben wird. Diese Information ist während des Buchungsvorgangs klar angegeben.
Bezüglich des Kraftstoffs müssen die Fahrzeuge mit dem gleichen Tankfüllstand zurückgegeben werden, mit dem sie übernommen wurden. Sollte der bei der Rückgabe festgestellte Kraftstoffstand nicht mit den vertraglich vereinbarten Bedingungen übereinstimmen, wird entsprechend den zuvor akzeptierten Mietbedingungen verfahren.
Wir möchten außerdem hervorheben, dass alle unsere Fahrzeuge nach jeder Rückgabe sorgfältig überprüft werden, um ihre Sicherheit und Betriebsbereitschaft für unsere Kunden zu gewährleisten.
Nach Prüfung Ihres Mietvertrags haben wir festgestellt, dass während des Mietzeitraums kein Fahrzeugwechsel durchgeführt wurde. Ebenso entspricht die von Ihnen angegebene Information zum Kraftstoffstand nicht den Aufzeichnungen in unserem System.
Bezüglich Ihrer Anmerkungen zum Zustand des Fahrzeugs bedauern wir Ihre Wahrnehmung der Situation. Dennoch werden alle Fahrzeuge regelmäßig überprüft und gewartet, um sicherzustellen, dass sie sich in einem geeigneten Zustand für die Nutzung befinden.

Renting car was easy and staff was really nice, although after almost a week after returning the car I still haven’t received my deposit back , and no one seems to want to help with that.

Regarding the security deposit, we would like to clarify that the amount is automatically released after the vehicle has been returned and the rental agreement has been completed. After the release, it may take between 10 and 20 working days for the funds to appear in your bank account, as this depends on international banking procedures and processing times.
We have checked your rental agreement and can confirm that the deposit has already been released and that everything is in order on our side.

Facilidad a la hora de reservar
Facilidad a la hora de reservar, sin tarjeta de credito y sin deposito (lo que yo quería), precio muy competitivo, es mas, en comparacion con otros rent-a-car se queda por debajo del precio promedio. Los chicos muy amables, el servicio muy rapido, el unico pero, que tienen oficina fuera del aeropuerto, pero para nosotros no fue un impedimento. Si vuelvo a Sao Miguel seguro que repetiré, y lo recomendaré.
