Website doesn't allow to write name correctly
Their website doesn't allow students to write their entire names and they cancel the student's scores if their names are not exactly as on their ID or passport. It's entirely ETS's fault since their website doesn't let them write their names as they should.

Completed proctoru equipment test multiple times prior to my IBT home test. Right as the test started, it was terminated due to security reasons. After speaking to the ProctorU support in the middle of the night, they would not provide any information, and referred me to ETS customer support.
It is clear that the only goal of ETS is not to speak to customers. It is virtually impossible to reach a customer support rep. I've now spend hours on the phone waiting to speak to a rep to reschedule my test.
I find it very odd that a company that so clearly takes advantage of students has a monopoly on providing tests that are required to attend many universities...

Dealing with ETS customer service has become a part time job for the last week. I purchased their TOEFL IBT and a practice test a week out to familiarize myself with the exam. I'm gonna make an extremely long story short. The practice test crashed, the interruption resulted in my account being flagged as a cheater (in a freakin practice test!!!!! imagine if it had crashed in the actual exam!!!) This I realized by myself, here's why. For several days I talked with CS reps, who would only reset my password and tell that everything was fine, even as I tried to log in and failed. Eventually I found a decent human being of a rep, who believed me and told me to write them a detailed email for them to forward to IT, since they had no direct line to that department. Cool. I wrote the email, sent it, and they immediately reset my password. It's been 4 days since that, every time I call they tell me to send them an email describing the issue, when I do they reset my password. Different reps every time so I have to start from scratch every. freakin. time. not even a case number. 4 days in I still can't get someone to forward my email to their IT. If you can just get an IELTS or Duolingo test, this is a sham of a company. I'm taking the test for my MBA application, apparently TOEFL is the only test they accept. If I do get into a program I swear I will chain myself to the admissions office until they accept an alternative test.
serious organization problems at ETS
I booked a French language proficiency test (TFI) to be able to apply to university at the end of July - test date Aug 13. On Aug 8, I got an email that the test was cancelled by the institution that is responsible for doing the test in Montreal. Upon calling, I figure out it was ETS who cancelled and they need the institutions to agree to do the test Aug 20.
I wrote to them to be rescheduled to September since I wasn't available on Aug 20. The response I got: scheduled for Aug 20 again.
I wrote again and finally got the confirmation that I was scheduled for September.
A week later I got an email from the EFS - TOEFL department - that wasn't responsible at all - that they need more information to be able to answer my request ?!?
Presenting for the test in September, ETS had forgotten to put me on the list of test takers and I wasn't allowed to take the test even though I had a confirmation !!
And I wasn't the only one either. The same problem applied to two other test takers !
So we had to wait for another month, which makes it extremely stressful when you have to respect deadlines. No alternative solutions were proposed, requests for compensation in form of partial refunds were ignored.

Considering a TOEFL iBT Home Test for rapid results? Watch out! It may backfire.
I decided to take the TOEFL iBT Home Test.
Everything went fine until the exam break. Then, after giving me misleading indications, the Proctor decided to interrupt my test.
I immediately phoned customer support to explain what happened and to ask for a solution. They informed me that I will be contacted in 3 to 5 days.
Right away I emailed TSReturns at ets.org stating my case and attaching the only proof that I had (the ProctorU log).
After more than a week and no news from them, I decided to phone their "integrity service" to ask them for a solution. At that point and after 40 minutes waiting on the line, they informed me that it would take them 2 to 4 weeks to solve the issue.
I am afraid that is too much for me to wait (I wish they would have informed me before).
Anyway, I lost 300$, a few weeks (paperwork delayed), plus the energy and time I invested in doing the exam, reporting the issue, and chasing them.
Fraud and without morality
I could not start the Home test exam. They told that there was a technical issue.
They dont reply, no refund, no other date for the exam.
This is a fraud. They are criminals.

I registered for a TOEFL IBT at home exam but at the test day I was not able to start the test. I paid around 300 euros for it so I tried to get in contact with TOEFL but they are not answering my questions via e-mail and besides there is no way to call them. Never got my 300 euros back. Horrible experience
Worst experience of my life
The experience I had with ETS (specifically for a TOEFL emax) is one of the experience I had in my life. First of all, they care a total amount of ZERO about their customers. After taking the exam, which is not cheap at all, they delivery my results after 3 months when they say it would take around 7-10 business days... wow a little extra time!! In the while of course I've been emailing them several times (and never got an answer) and trying to call them (the few times they actually answered I've been treated poorly). I was taking the TOEFL since I needed it to transfer to college and their delay screwed up my application since it too so damn long for them to sent the scores. I had to postpone college of one year because of this. The funny part is that I send them an email explaining the situation and asking for a PARTIAL refund and they tell me no. I don't know I should laugh or cry about :')
I hope ETS closes as soon as possible cause if you run your business in this way you don't deserve to be around.

Never call them unless you want to ruin your day. They hang up your call anytime and have to wait 2 hours like waiting a celebrity to answer. Horrible service and this need to be changed

My son had an appointment for an English test. He needed this to start a master at the university. No examinator was present, he even waited 2 hours. Luckily he made a video showing he was present and the examinator was not.
He asked his money back but they refused and said even that he was not present. So he asked his money back through his bank account. Paypal asked why and decided that he could have his money back.
Now TOEFLE is sending an invoice with more than twice the amount he had to pay for the test. What a criminal organisation!
WORST test company ever
I made the Toefl IBT at home test.
It all started with an application that could not be opened on my MacBook, with customer service completely ignoring me. After rebooting, this application finally worked. I spent a total of 2 hours beforehand having Toefl checked (they had to see the room, asked me 10 times to show them my desk etc.).
During the test, I was interrupted no less than twice by the invigilator because they could not hear me properly. So twice I was taken out of my concentration by a problem that lies with them. I was also laughed at by the invigilator during the control process.
I have contacted the customer service and they refuse to come to a solution and lay the blame on me. Absolutely do NOT buy a test from this company because you are throwing away €300! Wish I had checked the reviews before.

How is a national testing exam site so SCAMMY?!!! This test never worked on my computer even after practicing before hand. I reached out to several customer service reps via phone, email, and chat. No help whatsoever. I then reached out to reschedule this online exam and they basically said too bad. So after weeks of no help, I disputed the charge. My bank credited me (because I never received the service purchased) and now ets sent me an invoice?!!! Is this even legal? This company has major issues.

Got robbed like so many other people here. Never got to actually take the test, never got to see a single question. An error appeared in the screen, the proctor said he couldn't help me, after almost three months waiting for a reply finally got one saying I had unauthorized software running in my computer, no proof provided. What is the purpose then of running all the programs to check the system, and having the proctor literally getting into the test takers computers' settings to block all kind of unauthorized software from working. An absolute robbery. Did the IELTS a few weeks later and got an 8 out of 9. Needed a 6, why would I even cheat? They are just robbing people.
I wish I could have checked ETS reputation before
I paid for the TOEFL Essentials test at home. At the day scheduled, the problems started when ProctorU people were unable to handle with an error message which avoided the ETS browser to be installed. The tech guy did some basic verifications, but he didn't spend a reasonable effort and just alleged I had to try on another computer or ask for a reschedule.
As I had no other computer available and also with a tight deadline, I googled for myself and found a troubleshooting document at ETS website which contains instructions for the message I was getting. According to this document, the tech support from ProctorU should have checked some TLS configuration at Internet Options on my Windows but he didn't. After reconfiguring it, I was finally able to install ETS browser by myself. Almost 2 hours late, I tried all over again, with a third proctor, to start taking the test.
She got control of my computer with their ProctorU Google Chrome extension, then ran some scripts which interrupted some services and background programs, and then manually closed some other programs I have running by default. Google Chrome Remote Desktop, Microsoft Teams, Geforce Experience, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Apple iCloud, Discord all stopped, logged out or closed. I had no Skype, Zoom, TeamViewer, OBS or any other program or remote desktop service or screen sharing installed.
She finally said everything was set to proceed and my environment was ok. But when she inserted the credentials at ETS browser to start the test, a few seconds later, the screen blinked and it just showed the message "test cancelled due to security reasons". She stated this was a COMMON ISSUE but she couldn't do anything to solve, so that I should report to ETS and they would help me out. I argued I had not much time, and again she said I should no worry because this is an issue ETS is used to deal with!
I sent emails to different ETS adresses and opened an incident at ETS contact support page, which stated that I would receive a response within 2 businesse days. But had no response at all from anyone.
30 days later, a Test Security Specialist (sic) sent me an email informing the reason my test had no score result available. The stating is "you had an unauthorized software operating during the test administration."
I seached for ETS files at my computer, looking for some log or anything that could help me understand what happened and which program or service was running. Found 3 log files an none of them had any clue about it.
So how an specialist wasn't even minimally dedicated or capable to inform me which software was running, a software that THEIR OWN SCRIPT AND THE THIRD-PARTY PROCTOR ON DUTY WASN'T ABLE TO CHECK AND CLOSE UPFRONT?
No response from support
The support dept is practically non-existent and doesn't respond to any inquiries you have in advance of booking a test, as i have learned. Not to mention all the shady ProctorU stuff and arbitrary requirements that come with it... Will very likely try and get my certification from a different provider in the future.
