Disappointing Experience with Booking.com, Emirates, and Gotogate

I recently encountered a major issue with my family’s flight booking (Reservation Code: ETPKV2, booked on January 15, 2025) that resulted in significant financial loss and emotional distress. During online check-in on January 19, 2025, I discovered our surname was mistakenly entered as “Oezcam” instead of “Özçam.” Despite multiple calls to both Emirates and Gotogate, each company blamed the other, and no corrective action was taken. Consequently, we were marked as “no show,” and I was forced to repurchase tickets at an extra cost of approximately $6,300.

I’m sharing this experience as a caution to all travelers: always double-check your booking details and be prepared for the possibility of poor customer support. I hope that by voicing my experience, these companies will be prompted to improve their service and accountability.

Emirates have been a disgrace and a company that has totally disappointed and shocked me my friend and I arrived October last year to no case we got told it had home onto connecting flight to Singapore and would have back the next day ! To then b told didn’t leave Newcastle ! A whole holiday with no case that was October it’s now nearly march and they are still doing nothing about it shocking company who do not live up to the standards of service they pretend to do !
Now contacting ombudsman and going to go national with this story to make everyone aware of the service they just have NOT PROVIDED shame on u emirates

Not a good experjence

As soon as I boarded the EK037 flight from Dubai to Birmingham on the 1st February I knew that this was not going to be a good experience.

Walking to my seat I heard one member of staff say that they hadn't been paid for 7 weeks. Clearly he won't be motivated to do a good job.

During the whole flight the staff were not interested apart from one or two. The others displayed patronising behaviour although I do not understand why this should be the case for crew staff.

I left my seat and walked to ask for a diet Pepsi and the six staff who were sat around looked at me as if I was asking for something difficult.

The live tv and WiFi didn't work on the plane for 50% of the flight which was very frustrating as I had paid for this service. I had a pretty rude response from a member of staff that was clearly rehearsed regarding restriction during flying over restricted countries. Does this include Austria/France and the UK?

Overall this was a rubbish experience from Emirates, and it is a shame that they do not react or reply to reviews on TrustPilot. Maybe they do not care as it is the visitors to Dubai that keep them afloat and pay the wages of all staff?

In contrast, my earlier flight from Bangkok to Dubai was great, along with the good nature of the cabin crew.

Why is this Emirates Airlines, or do you simply don't care?

Broken Promises and Incredibly Bad Customer Service

This review relates to a claim that was submitted in April 2024 and ultimately was closed in January 2025. If it were possible to give no stars I would have no hesitation. As a result of the Dubai floods (Apr 24) we were unable to fly to Heathrow as planned. With no possibility of another direct flight to the UK for 7 days we looked at flying back via another country. In the end we were offered a flight to Dusseldorf (2 days later) on the basis that we purchase the onward flight as they had no code share partners flying out from that airport. We were verbally assured, on more than one occasion, that these costs could be reclaimed. However the truth was far removed from that assurance. On return a claim was submitted and a reply indicated it could take up to 80 days for a reply. True enough almost 80 days later an answer was received asking for further details along with evidence of purchase. These were duly sent. Within 80 minutes a reply was received saying that they had no liability (totally ignoring what their customer service staff had said) and that responsibility lay with our insurance company. Luckily our insurance company (Admiral) were prepared to look at the claim on an ex gratia basis as it fell outside of the policy. However to do so they needed a letter from Emirates saying that they had made no payments. Easy you would think. Getting this letter, despite 7 reminders, took over 6 months and only then, coincidentally, after I had spoken to a journalist about this. While the insurance company have, admirably, kept their word we still remain considerably out of pocket. At no stage have Emirates shown any empathy, customer focus, understanding or ability to communicate in a meaningful manner.
Based on personal experience I would therefore advise anyone planning to fly on Emirates to take everything they say with a pinch of salt, treat all promises with caution and realise that when push comes to shove that you will be on your own.

Appalling Customer Service

I am extremely disappointed with the handling of my complaint submitted via the airline's online form in September 2024 (ref: DXB/A/300924/4690961). Despite patiently waiting, I was asked in November 2024 (ref: DXB/X/131124/8167515) to resubmit the same form, and as of late December 2024, I am still waiting for a response.

This prolonged delay and lack of communication are unprofessional and unacceptable, particularly from a reputable airline. I trust the airline will prioritize resolving my issue, but this experience has been deeply frustrating and disappointing.

We travelled with Emirates in May this…

We travelled with Emirates in May this year - our seat reservations which we had paid for were changed without notification and when we queried this we were told we could claim a refund for the price difference once we had returned home. Our flight was also delayed so we missed our onward connection and had to rearrange our journey incurring additional expense. Again, we were told we could claim our extra expenses. We filled in a form on the web site at the beginning of June for both claims. Apart from an automatic reply and a further automatic reply when we followed up we have received no response at all, five months on. I tried to contact someone via Facebook this morning again to no avail. I have to say that the standard of customer service is truly appalling and I am at a loss to know how we take this forward. For a company which is supposed to be one of the world's best airlines, it's more than disappointing.

Lost luggage- no response!

I have lost my luggage on 12th june till now no one responded properly. Even though i have made atleast 10 phone calls already- it has not been logged to the system and no claim has been finalised ! Worse airlines ever! I would never use it again. They do not care about passengers.

The app/website is absolutely rubbish

The app/website is absolutely rubbish. Tried to book a seats for our flight to Dubai and what a nightmare with online services and call centre. Staff so rude and patronising blaming my browser for all the issues even when I have tried it on three different devices and app. System would crash but still hold the seat selection so I couldn't retrieve it and agent help was unavoidable. Attitude of two out of three agents I had spoken to unacceptable very patronising, rude seemed to be very stressed yet laughed at me when asked for address associated with the booking. I had much better experience with budget Airlines than this couple of grand experience. Will book with other airlines in the future to save lots of stress especially when you go on your wedding anniversary.

Booked a 9 night holiday to Mauritius attempted to extend to 14 nights was given a price by email because their VOIP internet phones were playing up, chased up quote after 3 hours , finally got email with price I liked. Phoned back within 20 mins of getting quote only to find it was an extra 3k above quote.The customer service during my experience was shocking .I lost my £302 deposit because I did not want to give Emirates anymore money due to their incompetence.Tried to speak to a supervisor before cancelling but he was busy on another call

No seat choice, even when I did everything correctly!

I'm just about to board my flight and already the experience is awful. Having tried to check-in online, I was puzzled when I received and error telling me I wasn't able to select a seat and needed to finish check-in at the airport. When I used a automated kiosk at the airport it didn't give me an option to change my seat and when I tried at the gate, I was told there were no other seats. When I asked how I could make a complaint, Dev (the boarding manager) neglected to tell me that complaints could only be made once the entire return flight is over. I therefore wasted my time talking to someone on Live Chat, only to be told I couldn't even leave feedback. Dev, the boarding manager, then argued with me when I mentioned what had happened, telling me that even he didn't know the complaints procedure. I mean, why would someone so senior be familiar with the official complaints procedure!? Oh, and the seat I was allocated was literally one of the worst on the plane 81D (A380)

Nice overall

Travelled yesterday with Enirates Dubai 10.15am to London . Usual chaos trying to find luggage space in economy though Karina air hostess was exceptionally helpful kind and enthusiastic throughout making the stress so much less . There was a general positivity from the hostesses unusual in Enirates food was great and a nice flight overall .

Non empathetic towards Death

My wife passed away a few weeks before I was scheduled to fly with Emirates. I had to cancel and wrote to them explaining and if they would waiver the cancellation fee. I got no direct reply after two emails. I spoke on Live Chat but they did not want to help either, or pass on a message for me. I was really hoping they would be more empathetic considering this extremely tough time for me with bereavement.

Don't try and buy or use Airmiles with Emirates

I have had the misfortune to try and ask them what would to most modern airlines be a straightforward question. It is beyond comprehension that an airline can employ such incompetent, misleading and downright lying staff on their "Chat" help. They constantly promote; get/earn/buy airmiles and then use them for flights. So I asked "how much would it cost for "x" number of miles for a return flight. "Oh we can't tell you that....." Apparently it's some kind of secret. First you have to buy the airmiles and then they will tell you the cost of the flight!!!

Worst Website it has been my displeasure to use

Emirates website has to be one of the worst, user unfriendly website it has been my displeasure to use.

Try to book a flight - good luck with that! I have now spent something like 45 minutes trying to book a straightforward flight. Each time I click on details, and click continue, I am informed "You need to choose your flights"!

UAE advertises itself as tech advanced. All I can say is that if the Emirates website is anything to go by, then they should employ someone who is actually conversant with technology not someone who has no idea how to create a user friendly website.

Their website used to be pretty awful before they re-designed it. Now it is just plain awful.

How can they say they have no interest in UK law and will not follow it?! (Have them on a recorded call telling me that a number of times!). Hung up on call when asked for their name to get call listened to.

Flight cancelled due to flooding. Happens. Lots of messing around at Gatwick. Eventually got a hotel for a night. Next day all had changed. You are on your own, we will not sort hotel and food, CONTRADICTING THE LEAFLET EMIRATES GAVE US TELLING US OUR RIGHTS!. We are to pay, raise a complaint and we may get all, some or none of the costs back as money/ a voucher or flights. Won’t know for a month or two.

Really disappointed with emirates

Really disappointed with emirates, customer service is awful, booked business class this time and it’s even less value for money. Don’t even get access to aspire lounge. 😂. Very little contact from them. Waste of £7295 really. Hope the service on the flight is better .
