Electrify America = Ripoff America
Electrify America should be named Ripoff America. Previously Tesla owners and users of reliable and easy to access Tesla charging stations, the first time we stopped on our first road trip with a new non-Tesla EV at an Electrify America charging station we were confused with how to operate it and unbeknownst to us were trapped into a $7 per month membership which we didn't want. We did not charge at that station and immediately left in frustration. Then our credit card was charged $7. We weren't even aware we had opened account. When I called Electrify America to get that charge reversed and all subsequent monthly charges to be stopped, it took about a half hour for them to research my complaint then return to the phone to say that they could not refund the $7 because our account was closed. I will file a dispute on my credit card account which the bank may simply credit back to us but I cannot provide more evidence of my filing a claim with Electrify America because they say we don't have an account. The vicious, entrapping, greedy cycle has to end. BEWARE - don't charge your EVs at Electrify America!
And now I notice this seems to be a newer way of doing business. In order to place this cautionary review review, I just noticed that the Trustpilot review template doesn't end with SUBMIT but rather with SIGN UP. This review is important so I'll do that but will immediately cancel the sign up so as not to be trapped again. What happened to honor in business?
I have only used Electrify America in…
I have only used Electrify America in an emergency and now am set-up that have to never use them again. DO NOT USE THEM FOR THEY'RE OVER DOUBLE THE COST OF ANY CHARGERS. USE A TESLA CHARGER EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE. You can sign up and if needed get an adapter. Fast and cheaper then the rest. Make sure adapter is from dealership.
It couldn't be worse
If the number of fast-charging stations in South Florida were even remotely proportional to the population density, if those stations were true superstations with at least 8 units, and if the malfunction rate stayed below 10% (which is already high), then maybe—maybe—their extremely high (and frankly ridiculous) price of around $0.60 per kWh could be justified.
But reality is nowhere near those assumptions.
The infrastructure is insufficient, most stations have too few units, and several are often out of service. Add to that a completely nonexistent customer-service experience, and you get an overall service that is disappointing in every possible way.
We used the machine in Palm Beach…
We used the machine in Palm Beach Gardens shortly after purchasing our VW ID4. We went into the movie, and came out about two hours later. Not sure how long the charge took but it was $43. Then they tacked on Idle Fees for another $43. I contacted customer service and was told too bad. We will never use it again.
The Indian customer service people are…
The Indian customer service people are nice but not helpful. Accents are too thick to understand at times. The app actually sucks when it comes to credit cards. Multiple times the app won’t recognize my credit card and won’t recognize any new one added. Yet electrify America sends in a “ticket” then makes you tap your card and pay for a service I have free through VW even though it’s obvious a EA issue. My credit cards work and every other venue and app so clearly not my issue but there’s. I would avoid electrify America to anyone who reads this. Their customer service is shit and their app sucks.
Garbage Service and Technology
I subscribed to the auto text for when my vehicle would be almost done charging. Never got a text and ended up being charged a $35 idle fee that they will not refund even though their services never notified me. What is the point in subscribing to the notification if it doesn’t work?
I cancelled after the first month of…
I cancelled after the first month of service yet they continue to bill me every month STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!
Horrific customer experience
Horrific. Their charge plug fused to my car. They had to cut the cable. They then informed me that it was my responsibility to pay for and take care of all of the damage that occurred. They’re telling me that I have to pay for all of the work at the dealership I have to pay for the tow truck I have to pay for the lift that takes me to, and from the dealership that they will be paying none of the cost of the equipment that they had malfunction on my vehicle. I will do my best to never use an electrify America station ever again in my life and my recommendation is stay away from them. Because if something happens to your car or if that plug fuses to your car when you’re using it, they’re not gonna take care of you
Service stopped No resolution
Service stopped and called repeatedly to customer service. Was like a big black hole. No resolution.
Absolute garbage
Absolute garbage. They will single handedly destroy electric vehicle adoption. Everything you don’t want to go wrong they will make sure it does. Customer support will put you in India with no help. Expect to not be able to charge.
EA Charged me Money Even Though I have 2 Years Free
At 4 AM on Aug 27 2025, my Electrify America card didn’t work at a charger—even though my account was set up in both EA’s and BMW’s apps. No errors or instructions appeared. I wasn’t aware I needed to call to get the charger working that early—nowhere is that explicitly told. I still got charged. When I reached out, I was told “you should have called,” and no refund was offered.i literally have the two year free plan that came with my BMW. Also just so people are aware, their chargers cost double what any other electric charger in the area costs, I only went there because I wanted to make use of the free charging. According to a lot of people this is a common issue basically EA is running a scam by promising free charging and then having “issues” when you get to the charger that they refuse to refund you for. Really bad company, I’d avoid them in general.
Horrid
Horrid. Not once have I had a good experience—always something not working. Makes sense, came with the crappy purchase of the ultra-crappy Kia Niro electric—together they make an unfortunate pair of loser products.
I have had to call each and every time I have needed to use their service. Their app is CRAP. While I was told it was free for three years (ah hah) I have had to put money into an account. Dismal.
Out of 4 chargers-1 was out of service
Out of 4 chargers-1 was out of service. Two of the chargers had speed of 30kw-charger 4 station is supposed to be up to 350 kw and station 3 is supposed to be up to 150 kw. I had to wait to use charger 1. When it opened up, I started out at 120 kw and then it dropped to 90 kw and then down to 20 kw. I had to call several times today. I have a plan with Rocky Mountain Power which is supposed to give me a discount. NOPE, got charged FULL price. We called Rocky Mountain Power and they agreed I should have the discount. I am UPSET. I can't get anywhere with Electrify America. They even told me that I would see the discount.
Too few chargers and many are out of order
Electrify America has got to be the worst provider for charging electric cars. They barely have stations and when they do there’s only 3 chargers of which at least one is ALWAYS out of order. there is always a line of people waiting. Not sure how but they seem to have the accounts for all the major car manufacturers so we are stuck with them for our free charging incentive. I suggest Mercedes Benz drop them right away!
Poor Service at Chargers and on 833Helpline
Poor Service at Chargers and on 833-helpline
110123-02 and -03 chargers at Grovetown, GA do not deliver reliably what is promised. Just to reiterate none of the factors listed apply on why the charge is not being delivered reliably - so this review takes those factors in account by giving Electrify America credit for it.
Calling customer service goes through the same motions every time - "reboot" the chargers and the status does not change. One loses a precious commodity called "time" in making such calls.
This one time (7/26/25 @ 0444 hours), I called Electrify America letting them know that the charger -03 was not working close to normal (delivering 115-120kW sustained from a 350kW charger) and that they should get this charger looked at. She said that she did not see anything wrong on her end and quoted me the standard factors of why this could be happening and blamed my vehicle for it.
She then asked me to "reboot" and I refused because it was going to cost me another 10 minutes of downtime and I had just switched from charger -02 which was absolutely not working normal. I pointed this to her and said look at the 2-minute profile of charging on -02 that happened just before I switched to -03. I said hyperfast chargers do not come down on charging speeds to 27 kW ever after just 2 minutes of erratic delivery. She said that she did not see anything wrong with that either.
I'd give them zero stars if I could
I'd give them zero stars if I could. CRAP app, the thing locked me out after using it for nearly a year, then when they "escalated" it they sent the same stupid solutions I already told them I tried 20 times.
Worst service ever...
Pricing only available at chargers
With their Pass+ membership they promise "up to a 25% discount." What they don't tell you, until you get to the charger, is that the discount is applied to their outrageously high price, making the final "discounted" price HIGHER than typical undiscounted prices at Tesla chargers.
My experience along I-20 in Texas:
EA regular price - $.64 per kWh
Pass+ price - $.48 per kWh
Tesla regular price - $.46 per kWh
I canceled Pass+ and deleted the EA app. Never going back.
Trying to charge in Cedar City, UT 3 were broken on my trip South. Now going North bound and all are broken. I found a great alternative, Blink at the Ford dealership. Very fast!
Many non functioning chargers at various locations on my 3,400 mile drive. Blink is much better!!
Absolute garbage
Absolute garbage. They are…brace yourself…worse than Comcast. No clue how they are in business. Fire whoever is allegedly running this awful company
This company is criminal
This company is criminal. They can have broken machines, not tell you the time of a charge, and then if you don't know if its charging or not, they charge you double the time if you charge again. They state you can only charge for thirty minutes once an hour. They abuse people financially. They let their broken equipment with no active screens charge your card whatever they want. Please, oh please, can we petition to shut them down?
