Do yourself a favour and call Dynorod. DrainSMART do not carry a high pressure water jet to unblock the drains so should they encounter anything on the initial survey they will just pack up and leave charging you for an incomplete survey. This is confirmed by one of their customers on here as well and also by another customer on trustpilot. Your then left with little option but to have them come out to the property again to complete the job. This will likely be more expensive than the first visit as they will charge for the unclogging of the drain on top of a second survey charge. I have spoken with Dynorod this morning, they carry a high pressure water jet as standard and clear all the drains prior to doing any survey, if they need to spend additional time on site they do this at a very reasonable rate of around £60+vat an hour. There is a reason they are the market leader, don’t waste your time and money on this Mickey Mouse outfit. I gave them a chance to reconsider the charge for the second call out but they insisted that the high pressure water jet was a specialist piece of equipment and threatened to take me to court over the unpaid monies. Tony Marsh is now going to reply to this with some rubbish about the rodding access being cemented in place. This was jet washed away in about 30 seconds, it’s just not worth your time to risk using this company when Dynorod carry all of this ‘specialist equipment’ as standard. My drain survey ending up costing £800….

I add an excerpt from Tony’s Email to me. He says water jetting is moot, so why does he bring it up in his email to me? Also they did use the water jet I was there. Regardless the second visit was about ten minutes in total so if they had the correct equipment on them or even phoned us to have our builder help it could have been solved in a single visit. As I mentioned just don’t risk using this company.

“We clearly state in our email prior to attendance that the quote is for the CCTV camera inspection of the accessible drainage only and there is no mention of allowing for high pressure water jetting to be carried out. “

If you include the VAT my job came to £794.

In response to this review, we would like to clarify the following:
We were instructed to attend the property to carry out a CCTV camera inspection of the accessible underground drainage which was quoted at £215 +VAT with the expedited report service for an additional charge of £25 +VAT to guarantee the report being sent the next working day.
We were able to survey the majority of the system however as we found the rodding access cap on the interceptor trap had been cemented into place and could not be removed without potentially causing damage, we recommended that the cap was broken out and replaced to allow the survey downstream of the chamber and electronic sonde tracing carried out to confirm the position of the Thames Water sewer to determine if a Build Over Agreement was required for the proposed extension. This work was instructed upon receipt of the quote and all costs (£660 +VAT in total for both visits) were agreed prior to our attendance.
At no point did we carry out high pressure water jetting nor was it mentioned in our recommendations or invoices so this is a moot point. If we allow for high pressure water jetting to be carried out at every survey when on the majority of occasions it is not needed, we would have to increase our costs which is unfair to our other clients.
As you can see on here and Google, poor reviews are in the vast minority and we stand by that we did not provide poor service on this occasion.

Broken sewer pipe and bad smell in the house

I had these guys round for a quote. Unlike other companies they didn’t try to charge to to have a look at my drain problem.

The 3 engineers came in the morning to fix the issue, excavated the concrete, repaired several botched jobs by previous builders and they were all done by lunchtime. Bare in mind I had been quoted for up to 4 days work from other companies, I couldn’t recommend drainsmart enough. Thank you.

Very fair pricing and extremely professional and fair.

The survey was thorough and they cared about what they were doing. Once we had the report their engineer was happy to talk about the various options and advise what needed to be done. We chose them to carry out the work and are very happy that we did. They helped us when we needed it.

Missing stills repot. Drawings shows "assumed" routes. Zero communication after survey. Not satisfied at all.

I am upgrading the rating to three instead of removing it.
I did receive a reply from them after posting the review. I was informed they couldn't plot actual routes because of the lack of availability of a second manhole. They were willing to come back and do a sono survey for free, which will give actual location of drain route, if I remove this review. The fact was that, it was too late and was not useful to me anymore. In this crazy housing market, we can't wait days for people to come back to you. By the time I got the reply we were mere days away from completion and didn't bother getting the sono survey done or use the repot to renegotiate.

INITIAL REVIEW:

I went with Drainsmart because I liked the sample report provided on their site.
It implies we will get Drawing, Stills and a Report.
After the survey, I didn't get Stills. It was missing.
The Drawing report showed everything to be "assumed route". The samples report on their site shows everything in bold lines, which are actual routes.
In the report I received everything is marked in dotted lines meaning: "assumed" which meant we couldn't present it to the seller or solicitor and say for sure that was the actual route of drains.
The worst bit is lack of communication. They don't reply to emails. I called in, and I was told somebody will call back. Nobody ever did.

Efficient and reasonably priced

The team replaced a cracked rainwater gully, they had to dig out the concrete to install it but left everything immaculate afterwards. They conducted a survey of the drains and when they could not complete it due to a blockage, they came back shortly afterwards with the jetting equipment so they could finish it.

Excellent service

Excellent service. Drainsmart responded quickly to my enquiry. I needed a significant rebuild of external drains and opening up, inspection, cleaning and fitting of new cover of Buchan Trap. Contact with the company was polite and positive. An inspection of the site was arranged smoothly, a reasonable price for the work given and the work carried out courteously, confidently, efficiently and tidily. I highly recommend this company.

Gullies and drains

The drains have been blocked and men from this firm have fixed the problem very efficiently. The first week was assessed by Tyler and Jay and the following week Ed and Jay fixed the drains. They were very polite, pleasant with neighbours regarding parking, communicated well and answered all my questions explaining the work they were doing and why. They moved and replaced garden equipment as it should be. Ed and Jay took great care in matching new paving stones to old and the final result is very good as it does not look as though there has been any paving disruption at all. It is all even and smooth as they took care so that the levels were not tripppable. Very nice young men to deal with pleasant manner and commented upon by my neighbour. Thank you

Replacement Cast Iron drainpipe…

I contacted DrainSmart a few weeks ago to get a quote to replace a 2' (60cm) section of old cast iron drainage pipe. After receiving a number of highly inflated quotes for the work ranging from £2,300 to £6,000. I was given a quote by Tony (who was lovely by the way) that was reasonable. This morning Ed and Monty arrived on time and ready to work, they were both very pleasant, communicative and kept us informed of what they were doing. They were happy to answer our questions, about the work they were doing. Efficient is an understatement, the work was done neatly professionally they cleaned up so well it was hard to believe they had been there doing any work at all. They are a great asset to the company. I can only highly recommend. Thank you Drain Smart

Great job

Ed and Jay attended on 2 very hot days to locate and clear a blockage affecting 4 flats. They were very polite, courteous and respectful of my property. It was a very difficult job but was completed with hard work and humour. I was kept informed at every stage and they never left without telling me what was going to happen next.

First Class Service

Drainsmart were recommended to me to carry out a survey prior to purchasing an old property. They did a great job and discovered quite a few issues. I've subsequently moved in and Ed, Jay and the team have just been to carry out some of the remedial work and have done a great job. I have nothing but praise for this company, and would recommend them to anyone in need of any type of issue with their drains.

Drainsmart uncontactable after leaving their rod blocking a drain

Drainsmart did a camera survey for me to find and repair a blocked drain in the basement, the camera survey turned out later be incorrect. Their next visit was to fix the issue. My builder was waiting next to the blocked drains, (they billed me to ‘find’ these drains). They stuck a rod in more than 2m, it broke and they left it there, even more blocked. The only remediation they suggested was to get Thames water out and billed me £768 for this visit!
Tony has been uncontactable since, despite emails and calls asking them what I should do about my blocked drain.

Update - post their response.
I spoke to my builder who said Drainsmart engineers couldn’t get the rod out and asked him to help.

Tony has not left multiple messages, just one and hasn’t replied to a single email.

Drainsmart reception are polite and easy to get hold off but impossible to get any feedback from the engineers, leaving me with the blocked drain and no response.

My last email asked him if his engineers were going to remove the rod as Thames water engineers said if a private contractor has left their rod in the drain they should remove it themselves first. In addition they should never inserted a rod further than 1m.

Thames water have now attended and the blocked drain had nothing to do with the neighbouring drain but was due to a tripped sewage pump in a totally different address to the neighbour.

So not only were Drainsmart wrong but it took publishing this review to get a response from them weeks after they attended.

Firstly, we would like to point out that we do not have a client called Sarah Wright however given the details I believe that we have carried out works at this property. There are also further incorrect details:

1. Our survey was not incorrect, our drawing showed the assumed route of the pipework however as the manholes had been covered over, our engineers had to work from vey limited access and the actual route could not be determined without further access from the covered over chambers.

2. Whilst we had quoted to locate the buried chambers, when we arrived on site for our second visit the builder had lifted up the close boarded decking and found the manholes. We were not able to lift this decking at our initial visit as the survey was for a house purchase and the sale had not completed at that time.

3. The drain downstream of one of the manholes was blocked and our engineers attempted to clear it with rods however these got stuck and we were struggling to remove them. The client’s own builder then said he would get the rods out and proceeded to force them which caused the end to break off, leaving it in the drain.

4. During our second visit, electronic sonde tracing was carried out which confirmed that the main blockage was in a manhole under a shed in the neighbour’s garden which becomes the responsibility of Thames Water. We informed the client to speak to the neighbour about accessing the manhole and to request that Thames Water attend to clear their blocked pipe. I would point out that private contractors are not permitted to work on a Thames Water drain and face a fine of up to £10,000 if we do so.

5. The cost noted in this review is incorrect, our charge was £640.00 plus VAT which is our original quotation less the cost of the two manhole covers which were found not to require replacement.

6. Tony Marsh did call our client (not Sarah Wright) on several occasions which were unanswered and he left messages.

We would be prepared to return to site however we need to be paid for works already carried out and have the assurance that the client will contact the neighbour and Thames Water.
